I'm sure the grandpa thing is a joke.
Honestly, how could it not be?
"Grandpa didn't fight in a war for this bullshit"... Nobody under the age of 85 would have been old enough to fight in World War II.

South Park creators are probably thinking of making an episode out of this as of right now.Do you think we'll get a South Park episode out of this mess? lol
I don't know what to say...
I just... I don't.
Well it says it right there, "grandpa did not fight in a war".

If I were a female, no, because I will likely be more interested in doing something else that aren't related to STEM fields.
Maybe a doctor or marketing consultant.
What does this have to do with limited resources from the get go? Female from a young age isn't entering these fields during college.
It is already hard to pick a female candidate for CEO position due to limited candidates to pick from.
I'm sure the grandpa thing is a joke.
Speaking personally, I don't think the article is gonna bother any "gamer" who truly knows they aren't one of the ones being described. Our reaction is at worst "fuck i wish these assholes werent out there making my hobby look bad" while agreeing with the article's plan of action and sentiment about these assholes.
You should probably ask her about that. Ask her why she went and insulted the people at Giant Bomb when responding to a twitter dipshit? The tweet is now deleted, but she said, "literally everything I write is more interesting than everything most of the [Giant Bomb] staff does."Why would she belittle a culture she is a part of? I don't even

Anyone know the origin of this logo?
Maybe I'm out of line for harbouring such a quiet assumption, but why am I not surprised to see the colours green and purple?
Some decent advice there.

Seems to be a 'twibbon' which is some kind of badge for various causes anyone can make and overlay on your twitter pic.Anyone know the origin of this logo?
The most passive aggressive way of saying "Don't out the people who are threatening you or else you'll be assumed to be a liar or attentionwhore. We already have a bad rep as it is.".
I'm getting tired of these GGers inserting their OC girl into everything too.
What do green and purple represent?
Aren't green and purple the colors of GG's Mary Sue's shirt?
You've really been toeing the Gamergate Line throughout this ordeal.
An ugly little meme called 'Piccolo Dick' or 'Daily Dose'.
From http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/piccolo-dick:
Daily Dose / Piccolo Dick refers to an animated GIF of the Dragon Ball character Piccolo anally raping Vegeta.
Images related to the gif are often not aimed at representing the GIF, but instead just contain the colors green and purple. The idea of this is to make the combination of the two colors evolve as a trigger in a persons subconscious that results in him being reminded of the gif each time he sees those colors.
Again, maybe I'm reaching and it's just a coincidence. Maybe the similarity to goatse is also just a coincidence.
WTF.... I do not think the purple and green is suppose to represent that at all man. That is a crazy leap in logic...

Is it? They have a history of inserting the colour green and purple into things. GG was born in /v/. Daily dose (ie green and purple) came from /v/.
You don't agree with that advice? I think it's pretty much common sense no matter who wrote it.

Posted an article about the terror threats on my FB account along with my disapproval of them, was met by a couple of my friends coming out in support of the GG movement and how she was "asking for them" and "they benefit her because she can now play the damsel in distress trope she rallies so hard against".
Kinda disgusted with my friends right now. You know, you read that kinda shit on Twitter or Kotaku comments and you don't think these people are actually real. But they are. And they're some of my friends. And it depresses the shit out of me.
I don't think that Death Threats thing is that bad generally. As general advice, it's solid. I do think it gets used mainly to lecture people, similar with Totalbiscuit's recent stuff, which is pretty tasteless.

I feel like we're witnessing the birth of a new hate group
In like 30 years all the GGers will have fully matured into the racist old neoconservative cranks they were always meant to be
The last portion is probably the most disturbing because there definitely is a life or death type vibe when dealing with some of these people.
It's basically telling victims they shouldn't publicize their victimization. It's denying the importance of talking about it and obstruct letting others recognize the societal problems that lead to it. And understanding why GG wouldn't want their targets to publicize the people they threaten, it makes the advice even more insidious

"Don't report death threats to the police and don't make it public" is the exact opposite of good advice.
It's basically saying "hey, uh, we're going to give out this 'advice', which is really just good for us".
This is most likely the article that will be on the NYT front page: http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/10/1...-threats-anita-sarkeesian.html?_r=0&referrer=
It blows my mind that there are people that #GG is actually about ethics. Anyone that thinks #GG will somehow help gamers is clueless, this is setting the hobby back years.

That's a valid point. At the same time, I still get irked when a news organization belittles my past time.
I'm sure you've seen the threads around here when someone like Fox News just completely dismisses people who play video games as basement dwellers with no social skills whatsoever.
You should probably ask her about that. Ask her why she went and insulted the people at Giant Bomb when responding to a twitter dipshit? The tweet is now deleted, but she said, "literally everything I write is more interesting than everything most of the [Giant Bomb] staff does."
Honestly? I've found my way into this thread because I saw Patrick of Giant Bomb getting harassed. That dude has been one of the most vocal people for a while now. Hell he was on a panel with Quinn at PAX East talking about internet jerks before all this blew up.
Okay.

ENever... NEVER. "Shit that sucks, sorry to hear that, how can we help. We're here for you."
Where is the direct connection to video games and GamerGate?
The threat is obviously from an anti-feminist. I read that as if he would be making the same threat to any other feminist. Sarkeesian just happens to be the feminist speaking at the time. The threat mentions killing random feminists that have no connections to video games as well as how feminists have ruined his life. The threat lacks specificity towards Sarkeesian, and instead it seems as if it is in reaction to the wider ideology of feminism.
She did the right thing by canceling. I would have as well.
A couple of posters have noted that Sarkeesian said the threat directly mentioned GamerGate. Is there a quote or link that I may have missed?
I hope they find the emailer and put him away.
