That's not a patch. It's content. The game is designed to run as a single, unified product, digital is seamless obviously, but we also wanted disc users to have the same experience, without swapping discs. Since the bulk of it is MP or MP related, the logic is sound. There will ALSO be a TU in there, but that in itself is a tiny fraction of the content.

We realize that this isn't ideal for everyone, but it's the path to the smoothest eventual experience.

Mind if I ask you what your specific problem situation is? Disc? Bandwidth cap? Slow speed? Just curious and would like to provide deeper guidance.

If fixes were required for Campaign, they would be very small, but that's not the case. All four campaigns will run directly from the disc without the content update. As will some custom game features. Again, the bulk of the CU is MP and MP related.

You work for 343 or MS? Just curious

Does this game have 3D support like Halo 1 Anniversary had?

I think they said no. I could be wrong though.

I continue to be wayyyy too excited for this game. D: Destiny is going back in it's case for a long time when this is released.

Do it so I don't feel so guilty about doing it.

Tell MS to fix the install process or else you will have your disc users spending days just to finish installing, not knowing that update is also part of said process.

I'm all fine and digital, but curious if the game will really "run directly from the disc"? That's not usual for X1 where everything is installed.

Will it be possible to download the remaining 20 gb before the disc release? I'm wondering because while I have pretty good bandwidth speed, my downloads on XBL always take forever, and on Nov. 11 I'll be at work all day counting down the minutes until I can play it. Getting home and having to wait for a 20gb download to finish will make sure I won't be able to play on launch day :(

Potentially it's something that you have to launch through the menu of MCC, similar to how you had to use Crackdown to launch the Halo 3 beta back in the day? So if you own the disc, then you'll need to have the disc in so you can launch MCC and then Halo 5 from there, but if you have it digitally then the point is moot.

It's not like it's a big deal though because by December, MCC will basically be fused directly onto peoples disc drives.

If you are getting the disc version you'll need to wait until you own the disc. If you're getting it digitally, then you can preload the game+patch.

Hey guys, I've been trying to find this information to no avail:

Does the online multiplayer for Halo 1 have any split-screen options, so that a guest can be playing with you on the same console?

I know that's been a feature in other Halo games.

If I preload this and get this boom skull, is it possible to get the bandanna skull later on? (as that was a pre-order bonus from EB Games here in Australia)

According to the store the boom skull is an pre-order bonus till 12 december, after that it'll be available for everyone. I assume that it's the same for all the other pre-order bonusses.

Cheers... I thought that it couldn't be right

Pre-load says the game will unlock at 12:01 AM EST on November 11 which is great news compared to other recent releases like Destiny and such which did not unlock until 3:01 AM EST on release day.

No need to go to a midnight launch, pre-load already available including Day 1 content, no disc swapping...sounds good to me. Digital all the way.

Before Destiny came out, I preordered the digital edition on Xbox One and pre-downloaded the entire game. Then they announced that if you purchase the digital edition of Destiny on Xbox 360, you get the Xbox One version for free, so i canceled my digital preorder for Destiny on Xbox One through Customer Support. I never deleted Destiny from my Xbox One though. When Destiny came out, i purchased the digital edition for Xbox 360. I then went to my Xbox One, and "purchased" the Xbox One version for free. The game did not need to install again, it just installed an update and i was playing pretty quickly.

Since the 20 gb update will be available for download before launch day, maybe you can buy and pre-download the game and update, then cancel your preorder before launch day. Then you can buy the disc version and you should be able to start playing right away.

On this page, it says digital preorders can be canceled before launch day.

Can I cancel a pre-order?

Yes, you can cancel your pre-order by contacting Customer Support before the game is released.

Seriously dude, that's a very unconvincing excuse.
Why swap discs? Just install the 2nd disc ONCE and get done with it. Like its done on 360. That's seamless for disc users. No need to waste time downloading. Just accept the fact that you got the 20 GB content/fix ready after the game went gold and weren't able include it on 2nd disc and hence people have to download it. Or just wanted to avoid 2nd disc debate and stuff. That's fine.

Also, are you absolutely sure total install size will be 45+20=65 GB for everyone? Or will your content get magically adjusted once installed like DR3 patch?

Why not make the second disc an installation disc only? Then there would be no need to swap discs. I never had to swap discs in GTA V for Xbox 360.

Perhaps you could release a second retail version in March 2015 where everything is on disc.

I wonder how much of the disc space is taken up by the new Halo 2 CG cutscenes? Probably a lot. Which is somewhat frustrating.

A patch is not DLC. It doesnt ADD size to the game, it overwrites certain contents of the game thus keeping the game at the same size. A 20 GB patch is not gonna make a 45GB game 65GB. It will still be 45GB. So, to be clear, you dont need extra space just because its gonna have a 20GB patch.

Also those worried about data caps because they have to download 45GB and the 20GB. Dont be. If you choose not to preload and download it on day one then it will already come with the patch applied, effectively bypassing that extra 20GB.

What. No.

The game won't still be 45GB after the update, otherwise the update would be on the disc.

(In case you read this Frankie I want to say you've been one of my favorite people in the world for many years now and I always had 100% faith you and the 343 team would keep Halo alive in an amazing and even better way than it was before.)

With that said, please make the additional 20GB chunk available for everyone to download prior to launch, instead of just the digital pre-orders.

Once the 20GB section of the game is ready to go on Live prior to launch for the digital pre-orders there is no reason why it can't be made available for people to DL, whether it's online with a PC (and then put onto the Xbox via USB) or on Live itself.

I plead with 343 to do that and solve all the various issues people will have. I have fast internet and I still don't want to see this go down the way it currently is because it's a variable and wild card on launch night that neither I or anybody else wants to deal with.

I could get this digitally and be playing at 11pm my time, just like I did with Forza Horizon 2.

OR, I can go to a Microsoft launch event and have fun and stuff (and not even worry about spoilers) yet if I do that I won't get home until around 1:30am or 2am, and then if I had to install and download? We're looking at around 3am at best. I'm already "sacrificing" time by getting it physical cause I want to take part in a social event for Halo I look forward to for years (literally live for those kind of nights) and the 20GB download is just too much salt on the wound IMO.

I do believe 343i will make this right and make it available to everyone, but they need to know enough people care.

I really hate that ms is asking 70 euros here in Germany for this game when i can buy for 50 euros on retail . I really wanted to buy it digital and pre-load this game today. Now gonna wait till release day and buy this beauty.

Kauf Dir doch das Spiel im amerikanischen Store. Da kostet aufgrund des Wechselkurses nur 50 Euro :)

I think you will need to install the game on hdd which was for sure how it was meant by Frank.
