Rumor/confirmed - Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is 1080p on PS4, and 900p on XB1.

It amazes me that so many people miraculously have loads of Xbone-owning friends and yet, despite the PS4 selling a lot better, very few people seem to have PS4-owning friends.

PS4 owners don't have friends confirmed. ;_;
Yep. A strange trend I've noticed a lot around here. Maybe all the people we know buy PlayStations in our areas, and all the people in other areas buy Xbones (but in less areas)? That would explain it.

Edit: I have both. I know 3 people nearby with PS4s and only 1 with a 'bone.

I think it has to do with people buying into Xbox Live much more over 3 gens. I have PS4 owning friends but not all of them have ps+ or are big into playing online (out of my close friends who game the ps4-xbone split is 50-50 but only one of my ps4 friends plays online but all of my xbox friends do). My xbox friends are much more into that kind of thing. I rarely played my ps3 with anyone online besides randoms. When I had a 360 we'd always get parties going.

Its a big reason the Xbone is my first console this generation (well I had a ps4 but returned it before I really played it and I'll rebuy it around e3 time when I have the cash again)

I have both consoles, just have much more friends I play with on the Bone. Like I have said before, I get most single player games on the PS4 and Multiplayer games on the Xbox One. Of course I wish it was 1080p, but Im ok with 900p.

I have both consoles, i have an average of 12 maybe more online friends every night on PS4, around 3 on Xbox One.

Edit: i've had Live for over 10 years, i don't know where all my Xbox friends went, actually, most of them went from having two consoles last gen to only having a PS4 now.

Everytime I read through a resolution thread I can't help but imagine there is some sort of email notification list that alerts any and all Xbox faithful to come to the defense of their lesser performing console by shit posting, thread whining and generally obfuscating. Perhaps it's something like this:

This message brought to you by the letter S as in SARCASM since we all know this done completely free of charge and encouragement which makes it even more depressing

It's the tolerated version of thread wining. Annoying but what can you do.

am I the only one who remembers GAF after always-online-gate but before things leveled out? sheesh, let's act surprised that Xbox One owners act defensive around here. And pretend we don't know exactly why that is... lmfao

you know what this thread would have been a year ago. fuck, six months ago. it would have been a complete shitshow, a storm of clowns seeing who could top the first post joke about how shit dat bone be. C'mon.

I don't see how this was unexpected. Hopefully both have a consistent 60 fps.

Edit: Holy shit. WTF is going on in this thread. I'm a little late it seems.

I lot of my 360 owning friends bailed but the people I played with on live stayed. The others are like my ps3 friends, they're online but we never really interact or play.

Maybe not so much as unexpected but there's certainly an element of doubt after AssCreed Unity. I know it's different tech and engines but with unnofficial claims Ubisoft can't reach 1080p on ps4, who's to say Sledgehammer won't encounter a similar bottleneck.

It's obvious they mean online-friends, like if Neogaf went Android-exclusive we'd all buy an Android phone because "our friends" got one!

Still not sure why anyone takes Ubisoft at their word. They were truthful once in the whole matter, when they admitted to forced parity. Everything after was just an attempt to justify that decision.

I dunno, seems to have left a big impression on you. Not sure how it excuses the carnival of stupid here.

Well I'm no expert on the tech aspect of it, but hopefully they are willing to make a few compromises to keep it at 60. It seems to be the COD staple with the exception of Ghosts.

The game does look good to me graphically; not that that is saying much. Hopefully they've been able to keep the framerate stable though.

You should stop being so paranoid. I challenged your statement and somehow you perceive that as an attack.

Not paranoid at all. Just thought the tone of your post was strange. Other people would just simply ask instead of putting things in quotes and/or using sarcasm.

And your anecdotal evidence and attempt to draw conclusions from hourly Amazon charts is not good enough. Since this is way offtopic, let's try this again when the prediction thread comes up.

All I did was say that's it's doing better than people expected it to. Never mentioned how it would do overall since I'm assuming the regular SKU will make up the majority of sales for the month. Amazon hourly charts have had the COD bundle in a higher spot than the regular SKU for days now. Recent, but not so new to the point in which it can't been seen as a bit of a trend IMO.

Anyway, my original point was in reply to the post I quoted. Didn't want the thread to go off-topic. So yeah, I agree that we should save it for the prediction thread.

I don't for a second believe Ubisoft on this. However, I will entertain the notion that they ran out of time to properly optimise for both PS4 and Xbone.

Hmm, maybe I should have worded this better. I don't necessarily believe their reasoning myself (that's why I included "unofficial"), but whatever they may have said, it has casted doubt on future titles. Maybe I'll spin my previous statement that the "bottleneck" may not necessarily have been a technical one, which one of you said could be time.

a big impression on me? wat. I can't tell if that's some sort of veiled insult or implication... like, I must have internet PTSD or the memory of an elephant to remember the state of discourse somewhere only a few months later... lol. anyway, you're not wrong, it's irrelevant to bring up which copy you're going to buy in a thread like this. I was just providing an explanation for this phenomenon that seems to mystify and disturb y'all. The seeds were sown, now GAF reaps them. My response was prompted by how many people in here seem annoyed by a thread whose contents are tame and 100% less antagonistic compared to where we were at as a collective re:resolution and framerate news only a short time ago.

Ubisoft :

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff."

Same specs DOESN'T EXIST¨!!!

This comment is very fresh in this thread and your tag is amazing.

Thanks for sharing. I was wondering where you'd fall on the whole "buy/not buy" vis á vis the resolution difference.
I was just saying i mean the resolution difference is cool if thats the main point of buying the game. I bought ghost on 360 and ps4 last year end up trading the ps4 versionfor the 360 version cause i didnt have friends on there. Nice to know yall care and look forward to my options and decision making. Which one are yall buying it on nosey people?

Probably neither because I have very little time on my hands for gaming since becoming a dad.

But if I were to buy one, and I still had my Xbone, I'd get the PS4 version.

In fact, the primary reason I sold my Xbone was because I found myself buying just about every multiplatform game on PS4 because of the resolution/effects/frame rate differences. Which is a massive switch for me, since I gamed almost exclusively on 360 last gen. The DualShock 3 was garbage and the games just about always looked/performed better on the 360.

What a difference a gen makes.

So your rationalization for the cornucopia of pointless posts completely unrelated to the topic of the thread is: "But everyone hated Xbox after the reveal so of course they are defensive." How exactly does that observation excuse the plethora of non contributory posts? They are still completely off topic and thus not welcome.

Edit: Nvm banned

Amen to that.
"Oh okay, I'm going to buy the Xbox One version anyway because I like the controller more and because my friends, I don't care about the resolution difference anyway...so yeah!"

I wonder why they don't just stick with their 360s if friends-over-pixels! is that important.

SO if this is confirmed, does this put to rest the whole theory of "Microsoft encourages parity on titles they have exclusive marketing deals for" ? I know that was a big argument for Ass Creed Unity. There were comments where people believed there was no way Microsoft would allow a game that they have exclusive marketing for look better on a competing console. I would assume this could somewhat put that to rest

It's already at rest for the non-morons of the world.

1080p should be the norm. It's 2014. So many years have passed since last gen.

While the screen in the op is 1080p, it still looks blurry to me. Contures are not as sharp as I would have imagined. Is there some effect that blurs the whole image?

Why being passive aggressive or plain hostile towards dudes who claim they don't care about the resolution difference for whatever reason? I mean no one is denying the gap exist.

Ah, but obviously if you bought an XB1 then you're an idiot for spending money on a massively inferior product and should be mocked for your choice at every opportunity.

/Sarcasm.

I think we have come to the point where we can say that 1080p on PS4 and 900p on XB1 on multiplatform games is not really newsworthy any more. That's not to disparage its importance or discussion, but at a certain point we may as well treat it as the norm. Has anyone crunched some numbers of retail multiplatform games where this resolution-split was in place?

I think that it's still newsworthy because the june sdk and the kinect reserve narratives are still around, and you can see that when there is the occasional "parity" game.
In destiny and unity threads lots of people were implying that the two console were getting closer eveyday while in fact SDK are getting better on both platforms and the difference remains, since it is based on the difference in hardware power that will stay as it is for the rest of this console generation.

Shoudl've chosen Xbox for dedicated servers. Wish i had one.

I don't think we've heard anything about the servers yet though?

Pretty sure Ghosts had the hybrid dedicated/p2p system (or whatever) on both Xbone and PS4 so I think, for now, it's safe to assume the same holds for AW

The XBL Gold attach rate isn't super high going by info like this. I expect the attach rate is higher among early adopters on Xbox One, though. PS+ attach rate on PS4 was >50% at last report IIRC. Given the install base advantage of PS4, XB1's attach rate would need to be super high to match the number of PS+ users on PS4.

On this note, I would say that the network effect of PS4's install base is a pretty big factor in its ongoing sales. The anecdotal experience of some may differ, but overall the 'all my friends...' factor is a huge plus for PS4 rather than XB1 I think.

Every single one of those differences you've mentioned have been present in PS4/XBO comparisons, often along side resolution differences.

There's just no multiplats that are shameful on XB1 like there were on PS3 last gen. Shit like Skyrim, Bayonetta, Orange Box, Double Agent; most of these games were fucking lousy compared to the X360 versions. Even Red Dead Redemption was quite noticeably uglier on PS3 compared to X360.

Much better this generation, everybody gets a good version of every multiplatform title. You really can't go wrong with either an X1 or PS4.

I defiently think its anecdotal I was just trying to point out in my experience people have more loyalty to Xbox live than PS+ but that's bound to change for sure as ps4 continues outselling the one.

Postfx AA and maybe motionblur.
