We're Alive
Genre: Zombie fiction
Start from: Beginning
For Army Reserve Soldier Michael Cross, the world as he knew it ended in an instant. One minute, he’s in college, and in the next, rioters are roaming the highway around him, breaking into cars, and literally tearing people apart. This is the day the dead walk. This is the world of We’re Alive.

We’re Alive features chapters packing performances and sound effects that rival movies and prove that modern audio drama is undead and well. Join our survivors as they band together, struggle to fortify a safe haven known as the Tower, and discovers that zombies are far from the worst thing in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles where the rules of human decency no longer apply.

Little food. Little water. Little hope. Who is lucky enough to say “We’re Alive?”

The Laser Time network of podcasts are all absolutely fantastic. They cover a wide variety of topics and are all incredibly entertaining and hilarious. The Laser Time network is almost entirely comprised of people who have been shit canned from Future Inc., whether that be GamesRadar, PTOM, or OXM. Vidjagame Apocalypse

Why start from there?: It is Mikel Reparaz back hosting a video game podcast after getting shit canned from GamesRadar! This is pretty much the return of TalkRadar and it is pretty damn great. And he is joined by the wonderful Anne Lewis, of former PlayStation Magazine fame and now working at the Ubisoft Blog.

I've put some "Start From: Anywhere's", for things that aren't explicitly current but not in a serial format either.

The Bugle
Genre: Comedy
Start From: Current (Strictly speaking, but the archives are great too)

John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman, the transatlantic region’s leading bi-continental satirical double-act, leave no hot potato unbuttered in their worldwide-hit weekly topical comedy show.

The Technical Difficulties
Genre: Comedy/Trivia
Start From: Anywhere

Doesn't seem to have an iTunes description, so I'll just transcribe the intro to each episode:

The way the show works is very simple. In front of me I have a classic deck of trivia question cards, and when I say classic I mean they're from 1984. I'm gonna read out some answers and whoever gets closest to the question gets a point

No Such Thing As A Fish
Genre: Trivia
Start From: Anywhere

A podcast from the QI offices in which the writers of the hit BBC show huddle around a microphone and discuss the best things they've found out this week. Hosted by Dan Schreiber (@schreiberland) with James Harkin (@eggshaped), Andrew Hunter Murray (@andrewhunterm), Anna Ptaszynski and an assortment of other elves. Head to www.qi.com/podcast for bonus extras

Good Job Brain
Genre: Trivia
Start From: Anywhere

Part pub quiz show, part offbeat news, and all awesome. All the time! We here are nuts about trivia. And we are darn sure there are people out there who share our unusual obsession. Do you relish beating your friends at Trivial Pursuit? Do you blab out the answers at the gym when Jeopardy! is on? Then this podcast, fellow trivia nut, is the ultimate mental nutrition for your very big brain. So eat up!

Would podcast versions of radio programmes be okay?

Radio 4 General Knowledge Quizzes
Genre: Quiz
Start From: Current (There's only a month or so of archives kept anyway)

The home of intelligent and challenging quiz games on BBC Radio 4. Featuring Round Britain Quiz, Counterpoint and Brain of Britain with Quiz Masters including Paul Gambaccini, Tom Sutcliffe and Russell Davies.

(Counterpoint: Music quiz. Brain of Britain: Tough knowledge quiz. Round Britain Quiz: Tough knowledge quiz with some puzzlesolving too)

Friday Night Comedy from BBC Radio 4
Genre: Comedy
Start From: Current (Again, not much archiving)

Bringing you a satirical take on the week's news with The News Quiz and The Now Show from BBC Radio 4. Enjoy a satirical take on the week’s news with the cream of UK comedy talent.

(Both are satire; The News Quiz is in a quiz format, The Now Show in a stand-up/sketch format.)

The Infinite Monkey Cage
Genre: Science/Comedy
Start From: Anywhere (But at least this one is fully-archived!)

Award winning science/comedy chat with Brian Cox, Robin Ince and guests. Witty, irreverent look at the world according to science with physicist Brian Cox and comedian Robin Ince. New Series starting on BBC Radio 4, Monday July 7th at 4.30pm (repeated on Tuesday evenings at 11pm) for 6 weeks.

Film Sack
Genre: Film/Humor
Start from: Beginning or Current

Weekly dip into old weird movies from the past and present awaits you here. With hosts Scott Johnson, Brian Ibbott, Randy Jordan, and Brian Dunaway. Arnold and Sly approve. Action, adventure, drama, comedy, with a heavy emphasis on the 80’s. Oh yeah…you heard me!

Harmontown
Genre: Comedy/Confessional
Start From: Debatable. I'd say start from episode one, but others would probably give you highlights. Try this one to see if it's your kinda thing.
Self destructive writer Dan Harmon ("Community," "Monster House," "Heat Vision and Jack") claims he will one day found a colony of like-minded misfits.
He's appointed suit-clad gadabout Jeff Davis ("Whose Line is it Anyway") as his Comptroller.

You Look Nice Today
Genre: Comedy/Personal Journal
Start From: The first episode.
A Journal of Emotional Hygiene, staffed by lonelysandwich, scottsimpson, and hotdogsladies.
As the description isn't much to look at I'd like to urge you to give this one a shot. It's the late, great, funniest podcast I've ever heard.

Roderick on the Line
Genre:philosophy/Comedy
Start From: Episode 0
Merlin Mann’s frank & candid weekly phone call with John Roderick of The Long Winters.

My Brother, My Brother and Me
Genre: Comedy/Advice
Start From: Anywhere
Free advice from three of the world's most qualified, most related experts: Justin, Travis and Griffin McElroy.
For one-half to three-quarters of an hour every Monday, we tell people how to live their lives, because we're obviously doing such a great job of it so far.

The Comedy Button
Genre: Comedy
Start from: episode 1, one of the best-of episodes, or the Home Alone 2 commentary.

I'm writing my own synopsis, fuck iTunes. Veterans of podcasting Ryan and Anthony (from GFW Radio) hold back the comedy stylings of the formidable Brian Altano, Scott Bromley and Max Scoville as they babble about their recent travels and adventures, belittle their audience, and rant about Werther's Originals candy. Lewd, filthy and hilarious. Mostly conversational, so none of this highly choreographed comedy bullshit on other podcasts.

The Thrilling Adventure Hour
Genre: Radio Drama
Start from: Beginning or Current

I started listening to TAH when I was playing a ton of Destiny (amazing podcast game). I very quickly became enamored with the Sparks Nevada, Marshal on Mars segments. I think I've now listened to the entirety of that series twice now. I really enjoy the fairly extensive continuity and the performances are just hysterical. The main cast is great (Croach is the beeest) and recurring guest stars like Nathan Fillion as Cactoid Jim and Paul F Tompkins as the Jupiter Spy are excellent. Would definitely recommend checking it out.

I've tried listening to a few of the other segments, but none of them grabbed me like Sparks Nevada. Beyond Belief is entertaining enough, but doesn't have that same dramatic pull for me.

Welcome to Night Vale
Genre: Absurdist Horror Comedy
Start from: Beginning

I've also listened to the first two episodes of Nightvale and I'm really not sure what to make of it. The music and narration are good, but I'm sure if I'm enthralled this kind free form weirdness without much structure. Not sure if that's how it continues on.

Skeptoid is OK, though the host, Brian Dunning, has had some questionable wire fraud issues in the past and asks for money a lot. He puts together a decent podcast though.

The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe is titanic.

The Dead Authors Podcast has moments of brilliance and can be really entertaining, but every now and then they upload a show with horrendous audio quality that is damn near unlistenable.

Although I disagree with almost everything that comes out of his mouth, Adam Corolla is a funny guy and gets a lot of big names on.

The Nerdist podcast gets all the big names. The host, Hardwick, seems like a genuine fellow. A bit corny but it's hard not to like him.

Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast
Genre: TV & Film
Start from: Beginning

Comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried, a man Stephen King once called "a national treasure," sits down in his own New York City apartment (you expected him to leave the couch?) with the Hollywood legends and behind-the-scenes talents who shaped his childhood and influenced his comedy. Joined by co-host and fellow showbiz fanatic Frank Santopadre, Gilbert talks to comics, singers, voice artists, talk show hosts, writers, musicians, show runners and other eyewitnesses to Hollywood history, including Paul Shaffer, Marty Allen, Dick Cavett, Billy West, "Godfather" actor Gianni Russo, Joe Franklin, Sara Karloff, illustrator/cartoonist Drew Friedman and many more, as they share their memories of show business then and now (but mostly then).

This podcast is really focused on old Hollywood as well as many in the comedy business. You may not know that Gilbert is an aficionado of old films and some of the actors and stories within the podcasts are eye opening and hilarious.

Sorry for reviving a somewhat old thread, but can anyone recommend a podcast that deals with current affairs?
Something with a focus on Europe would be preferable, but a American viewpoint wouldnt hurt either

BBC has an hourly world news podcast.
