PAL Charts - Week 45, 2014

It took me a few goes to figure out it was referring to hardware as well, although my 1st thought was Destiny rather than CoD.

Took me even longer to find the section in the quarterly report, god financial reports are a slog to parse (it's pg.31 btw, for anyone wanting to doublecheck for themselves).

ctrl+f is your friend. =P

I thought it was obvious it was hardware. haha

Funny math ahead.

Out of the ~170 million shipped, the same markets covered by NPD and Gfk only amount to 121 million PS3 and 360, or 71%. If the same applied to the PS4 and XBO (it most likely does not), we would reach 21 million shipped, and since we know PS4 was 13.5 million, that'd leave 7.5 million for the XBO.

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Unity has entered the UK sales chart in second place.

Activision's first-person shooter Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare held on to top spot despite a 77 per cent fall in sales, according to official figures from Chart-Track. Unity missed out by 16,000 sales.

However, it seems Unity has done well. The PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game outsold the launch of last year's game, Assassin's Creed: 4: Black Flag, which originally debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to a significantly higher install base.

Chart-Track said 52 per cent of Unity's sales were on PS4, with Xbox One taking 46 per cent and PC two per cent. It should be noted that Chart-Track does not keep tabs on download sales.

This year, PS3 and Xbox 360 got a separate Assassin's Creed game, titled Rogue. That entered the UK chart in sixth place. Combined sales of Unity and Rogue would have outsold Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare this week.

Meanwhile, 343's first-person shooter Halo: The Master Chief Collection enters the UK chart in third place. It's the biggest launch for a Microsoft-published Xbox One title and the seventh biggest by any publisher.

LEGO Batman: Beyond Gotham is fifth. Lego Batman 2 managed top spot when it launched in 2012. PES 2015 is eight and World of Warcraft expansion Warlords of Draenor debuts at nine.

The release of the Vita version of Minecraft: PlayStation Edition boosted sales of the game by 79 per cent. Surprisingly, the Vita release is the biggest Minecraft launch on a PlayStation console, outselling both PS4 and PS4's debuts. It's the third-biggest debut ever on Vita, behind only the console's launch titles Uncharted: Golden Abyss and FIFA Football.

Here's the top 10:

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Assassin's Creed: Unity
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
FIFA 15
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
Assassin's Creed: Rogue
Minecraft: Playstation Edition
Pro Evolution Soccer 2015
World of Warcraft; Warlords of Draenor
Destiny

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Thank you all for the positive feedback, I always try to add some spice to these threads to make them more interesting.

I hadn't thought about that, what you say makes a lot of sense. The results would also be in line with our previous estimates (780,000 for Advanced Warfare). This upweighting / unweighting thing can sometimes be confusing.

Does that mean that in the actual sales reports Call of Duty: Ghosts sold around 697,500 units and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 737,000?

Actual tracked sales from Chart-Track:

Call of Duty: Ghosts (90%) - 697,500
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (95%) - 737,000 [697,500 + 5.7%]

Upweighted to 100% of the market:

Call of Duty: Ghosts (100%) - 775,000
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (100%) - 776,000

In the case these numbers are actually accurate enough

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 2nd week - 178,480
Assassin's Creed Unity - 162,480

Thats a pretty high split for the XBOne on AC:U, methinks a good number of bundles were sold last week so MS will be happy.

Although IDK how to rate MCCs launch....7th best would put it behind the obvious suspects CoD/Fifa/Titanfall but I can't think of what else would've done better.

Good start for Minecraft Vita.

Assassin's Creed couldn't beat COD 2nd week? Wtf

Didn't Assassin's Creed III debut at around 300,000 first week in UK? Yeah, Unity did better than Black Flag at launch, but...again, it's the same thing we've said for AW, i.e. launch numbers being not completely representing due to PS4 and Xbox One versions coming out later.

Huh would've thought ACU could've take the top spot even if its COD's 2nd week. Guess the Rogue/Unity thing broke apart their sales.

Minecraft Vita, clearly too beautiful for this world

You Europeans getting a retail cart or just the box with dl code like us dirty americans?

Not too hot. Watch Dogs did so much better, even if we look just at XBone + PS4 + PC versions.

If the estimates my math is based on are correct, actually...even if we look just at Watch Dogs on PS4

01 (NE) PS4 WATCH DOGS (UBISOFT) - 190,000
02 (NE) XBO WATCH DOGS (UBISOFT) - 105,000
03 (NE) WIU MARIO KART 8 (NINTENDO) -
04 (NE) 360 WATCH DOGS (UBISOFT) - 50,500
05 (NE) PS3 WATCH DOGS (UBISOFT) - 35,000

Yeah but Unity plus Rogue did outsell CoD and since Unity itself was able to outsell BF on last gen concoles at launch I'd wager Rogue and Unity are closer to AC3 than BF.

Bad worth of mouth probably shaved a couple percent of AC Unity PS4 version (parity) and overall cross-platform numbers in general (technical issues, mediocre reviews).

Individual charts are online. Halo outsold both the PS4 and the Xbox One version of AC Unity.

How did Pro Evo do in the past? It doesn't look so hot, the bestselling version is PS4 and that version is already behind FIFA 15. After that comes the PS3 version. The Xbox One barely made into the Top 40.

GAF told me Halo was a dead franchise?

Seriously though, that's an impressive performance considering it's just a collection of remasters, and at this time of year with big competition.

Wait, so AC Unity on both platforms did worse than the PS4 SKU of WD? Shieeet.

Let's hope Ubisoft takes a hint and stop making this an yearly franchise. I liked the series until Brotherhood but after that I don't seem to find motivation to get another game on the series especially because I still have Revelations and AC III on my backlog. The problem (?) is that I don't have any motivation to play them.

And considering one of the biggest motivations for the game was the background story they built in the first 2 games but they dumped it just so they could making a new game every year.

In my opinion, Assassin's Creed games should be like GTA. One game every 3-4 years. Make it big and unique and people will come, well maybe not now after they burned into the ground.

Watch Dogs is probably next on the firing line of franchises to milk. Get ready for Watch Dogs 2 in 2015 and Watch Dogs: Hack Harder in 2016.

Really? I've yet to see a single post on here suggesting a Halo release wouldn't sell, personally.

Where were you reading this?

There's been some suggestions here and there that it might face some decline, partly contributed by a weaker install base and Halo 4 negative reception by the MP community.

Which, even if false or true, doesn't imply any "death." Even a declined Halo will still sell shitload of millions, just like CoD.

Yeah, I'd seen the suggestions of a decline in popularity for the series (Which tbh I agree with all things considered), but the suggestion that it wouldn't still be a big seller or end up "dead" in any way was a new one on me is all.

Its being given away (physical) with damn near every unofficial bundle.

If you bought an xbox one in the last 3 weeks, chances are you have a free copy of halo.

Not say halo doesnt have a fanbase, but since its been given away in bundles as far back as September, it kinda skews the numbers a bit.

Unity's debut must have UBI really nervous. That's not good at all for their flagship series.

There was a reason Ubisoft stock dropped on Tuesday and unlike some believed it wasn't related to technical problems or even reviews. Shareholders couldn't care less about those details, they care about money.

Internal preorder numbers must have been lower than AC IV: Black Flag which prompted shareholders to sell their stock probably afraid the only cow on the barn is not producing milk like it did before.

Maybe they learned the lesson to not release a game in such shitty condition.I can't be more happy. They can't think customers are that idiot. There is a limit in everything.
