Still wondering if anybody knows anything about the GC adapter only needing one USB port to function if you leave out rumble.

That would be nice since you could use it + ethernet adapter + HDD with y cable without needing a hub.

Sir... I do say this is the finest OP I've seen all year.

aWy2FuA.png

I appreciate the effort, but is there no option for a text based OP?

It's not mobile phone friendly in the slightest. To even be able to load the posts in this page, I have to force stop the page from loading...which stops all the images in the OP from loading at all.

Its just a huge amount of blank space, which is a shame.

I'm trying to figure out how to approaching that. I still have my work in text too. I guess I can post it here and linked it in second post. Problem solved, I hope?!

Gonna pick this up tomorrow, I got homework tonight. :(

Once I get it though I'll be free for the rest of the weekend to play nonstop.

Any info on how robust ranked play is?

I working till 1am and I will be picking up the adapter on my way home. Walmart better have them in stock when I drop by.

Any of you got lucky and managed to pick up your copy at your local bestbuy/walmart?

If so, how did you do it? I have a reserved bundle at best buy.

Great OP, but having the text set in images makes it hard to read on mobile.

Looking fwd to grabbing this tomorrow.

4. Items

4.1. Normal Items
A wide variety of items can appear during gameplay if you choose to turn them on. They can have many effects and uses such as being an equippable weapon which replaces your basic attack, recovering damage, or effectively becoming a hazard you place on the stage. Additionally, item containers such as crates may appear, revealing a treasure trove of other items -- or they might explode in your face! In the Wii U version of Smash, unlike 3DS, you will additionally be able to adjust overall item frequency, as has been possible in earlier Smash games.

4.2. Assist Trophies
Assist Trophies are unique “items” in the sense that once picked up and deployed, they will behave like a helper character in battle, assisting you in defeating your opponents in various ways. It is generally thought that Assist Trophies become the fate of many minor Nintendo characters who are not quite able to make the playable roster.

4.3. Pokéball Pokémon
Pokéball Pokémon work similarly to Assist Trophies, however they exclusively are deployed from Pokéball items (and, new to Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U, Master Ball items). When you throw a Pokéball, one of many Pokémon will appear and fight alongside you for a time. Or, in some cases… they won’t! A Master Ball, when thrown, will guarantee a powerful and/or rare Pokémon will emerge, so make sure you get to them before your opponents.

5. Smash

5.1. Smash
It’s the good ol’ Smash mode that we’ve grown to love. Here’s where we duke it out against friends, family, or CPUs with our favorite characters. There are an assortment of options available to set up many different kinds of battles, including Team Battles and Free for Alls. Items can be adjusted as desired. My personal fave: Pokéballs/Masterballs, Assist Trophies, Cucco and Smash Ball. Sometimes people set it to bombs only because they want to be pyromaniacs! In that case you can turn on the X-Bomb, Gooey Bomb, Bob-omb, and Smart Bomb. Other times people just want to keep it simple, so they go for 1 vs. 1, no items, and pick legal tournament stages only. The choice is yours!

5.2. 8 Player Smash (!)
For the first time in the history of the Smash franchise we’re able to have more than 4 players go at it simultaneously. In fact, you can have as many as 8 player SMASH! Yes, you heard me right! 8 PLAYERS! It’s going to lead to some very chaotic battles when you have to fight against 7 other players, or teaming up with your friends and family against other teams. Like regular Smash, there are many options available. Try matches with four duo teams (2v2v2v2) or two quad teams (4v4), for example. However, there are some limitations in terms of stage selection in this mode. Regardless, you can choose your strategy carefully in battle or just go all-out with reckless abandon in 8 Player Smash!!!

5.3 Special Smash

Special Smash is basically Smash with some unique settings available. There are many different options which can be configured for a variety of offbeat battles. For example, you could go with Stamina + Flower so no one can camp it out.

6. Smash Tour

Smash Tour is the Wii U version’s equivalent of the 3DS-exclusive Smash Run. The modes have some similarities, but overall Smash Tour has a much stronger multiplayer focus, and actually resembles a virtual board game like Mario Party. Up to four players can participate in this game by selecting a Mii and moving their character along the map for a pre-assigned number of turns, with the Tour eventually culminating in a Final Battle, similar to Smash Run. The most important difference is the Final Battle in Smash Tour is a Stock match where not only do the power-ups collected impact the attributes of your fighter, but the number of Stock lives available to you will depend on the number of fighters you collect during the board game phase. These fighters are obtained by traversing the board, and you will additionally have opportunities to steal them from your opponents when crossing paths. One way to obtain power-ups for your fighters is to complete a circuit of the board by passing every “checkpoint”. There will be three boards to choose from, offering a range of size and complexity. Completing circuits may be especially tricky on the larger boards! It is worth noting that, unlike in Mario Party, the pace of the board game progresses at a faster clip, because all participants take their turns simultaneously, spinning and moving together. In the end, though the victor will be decided by a Smash battle, your accomplishments in the board game phase of Smash Tour will prove to be pivotal -- moreso than in Smash Run.

7.1. Games & More

Classic Mode

Classic Mode is back of course, but as with the 3DS version, it has been changed up a bit from previous entries of Smash. The Kid Icarus Uprising inspired “Intensity” system returns, but the format of Classic is something different. Whereas before there was a linear branched path of several challenges, on Wii U you are thrown into a fray and must defeat various groups of challengers, represented by trophy figures placed on a square board. Classic Mode on Wii U fully leverages 8 Player Smash, so you may find yourself taking on many opponents at one time. Which groups you face in each round will depend on your skill level and performance in the game, unlike on 3DS where you choose your path and difficulty with every stage. As you progress, you may also be surprised by a “Rival”, who might be more formidable than your other opponents, but could also yield greater rewards. Ultimately, when the other challengers have been defeated, Master Hand will be there waiting. Just like on 3DS, as you raise the Intensity, Master Hand may be joined by its counterpart Crazy Hand, and Master Core is back too at higher Intensities. New to Wii U is a previously unseen form of Master Core, which will only be available at the highest levels of Intensity, known as Master Fortress. If you make it that far, Master Fortress will require you to navigate a treacherous labyrinth in order to defeat it. And finally one additional new aspect introduced in Wii U’s Classic Mode is the ability to play co-operatively with a friend! In fact, if you team up with a buddy you can quickly unlock character trophies since you’ll receive one for each player upon completion of Classic Mode.

All-Star Mode

This time, All-Star mode will be available from the outset! Basically, you will able to duke it out with all the fighters that are already available at the time you attempt the mode. All-Star will remain incomplete (denoted by a lock icon) until you have unlocked all available playable characters. As before, All-Star mode is essentially a survival battle against the line-up of Nintendo “All-Stars” and friends. The mode tasks you with tackling your opponents in reverse chronological order, which is the main difference from the All-Star mode present in Smash 3DS. In each round, characters whose first appearances lie in specific ranges of years will challenge you. For example: Sonic, Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight and Fox will represent the years 1991-1993. Once you complete the battle, you are taken back to a Rest Area where you can pick up various rewards and recovery items. Just as a reminder: you only have a limited amount of recovery items at your disposal and if you lose then it’s GAME OVER! Also new to Wii U is the option to team up with a friend in two player co-op.

Special Orders

There are two different “Orders” in this mode: Master Orders and Crazy Orders.

Master Orders
Spend gold to attempt special challenges and potentially earn prizes! The prizes range from bonus gold to custom parts to CDs which you can add to your music collection. You can get a general idea of what the reward will be before initiating the challenge, but in the end it’s random. The challenges themselves take a variety of forms, such as turning on Reflect, increasing launch power, horde battles, and more. The higher the difficulty of the challenge, the more handicapped you will find yourself, but the rewards might just be worth it. So choose wisely!

Crazy Orders
Here’s where things get crazy! In this mode you can choose to either spend 5000 gold or a “Pass” to attempt a series of challenges, culminating in a final battle against Crazy Hand. The Passes can be earned simply from playing other modes, including Master Orders. You are given a fixed amount of time during which to attempt as many increasingly difficult challenges as possible, but all the while you’ve only got one stock at your disposal, and any damage you’ve taken carries over to the next challenge. The goal is to complete as many challenges as you can without being KO’d in order to reap the most rewards. However, you won’t be able to claim most of these prizes until you fight Crazy Hand. The twist here is that the more damage you’ve accumulated from the challenges, the more stamina you’ll be given against Crazy Hand. Yes, the fight with Crazy Hand is a Stamina Battle! So as you can tell, the risk/reward factor is huge here. You want to complete more challenges to earn rewards, but you can’t be KO’d. And if you play it too safe in the challenges you’ll be given much less stamina in the final battle, and may end up with close to nothing.

Event Mode

Event Mode is one of the Smash franchise’s traditional modes ever since Melee. It presents you with a multitude of “event” matches which are essentially a wide variety of themed battles, often with creative completion requirements. Once you clear an event, it unlocks the routes toward different events. allowing some agency over the order in which you complete them. Also, there are three different difficulties: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Events even have two requirements to clear in order for you to access a hidden route and reward! 2-Player Event Mode is available as well. It features some unique event matches for you and your friend to tackle together.

Multi-Man Smash

Multi-Man is back as well, and this time we get to fight against Mii characters! The game will retrieve faces from Mii characters that are saved on your system, so we’ll have the pleasure of battling against people whom we are familiar with -- no more faceless drones! The goals in this mode are to survive for a period of time or take out a specific amount of Mii characters. In this game there are 6 different Multi-Man modes provided: 10-Man Smash; 100-Man Smash; 3-Minutes Smash; Rival Smash; Endless Smash; and Cruel Smash. Rival Smash is a new mode that has been introduced in this game; here, your challenge is to defeat more enemies than your rivals! Additionally on Wii U, due to the fact that 8 player Smash is available, it actually allows us to play with up to three other people in Multi-Man Smash against 4 Miis.

Home-run Contest

This here’s a pretty simple Stadium game which you should recognize. You need to inflict as much damage as you can against the hapless Sandbag before taking a good, strong swing at it to send it airborne. Try to bash the Sandbag as far as you can! This mode is also available in the Multiplayer Stadium, which enables playing competitively against up to 3 others or otherwise cooperatively with your friend.

Target Blast
A brand new mode which has been added to Smash 4, and is also present on the 3DS version. As Sakurai himself said, it combines the concepts behind Target Smash and the Home-run Contest. It plays somewhat similarly to Angry Birds, since you have to send a bomb soaring into a structure to destroy targets and rack up points to build your total score. You only have two rounds to accumulate points for your final score, which contributes to your Global Smash Power. Unique to the Wii U version, the second bomb is actually bigger than the first, which changes the dynamic a bit. Also, there are now three different kinds of stages to choose from. This mode is available in Multiplayer Stadium, where 4 players are pitted against each other in order to get the highest score.

6.3. Online

Smash Bros. has several online modes for people to enjoy, detailed below:

With Anyone Mode
In this mode you can play with random strangers online. There is a Wii U exclusive feature which allows two players to team up on the same console against anyone over the internet. Unfortunately, character customizations will not be possible here. “With Anyone” is split into two different categories. These are “For Fun” and “For Glory”.

For Fun entails matchups with 3 other random players in a battle with the following rules: stages are randomly selected (Final Destination excluded), all items are on, and only wins will be recorded. Wii U also allows us to choose Team Smash to play with a teammate against another team online.

For Glory entails matchups with tournament-like rules: Omega Mode only (ie: Final Destination stage variants), with items off, and both wins and losses will be recorded. You can play in 1v1, 2v2, and free-for-all battles.

With Friends Mode
In this aptly named mode, you can play Smash Bros. with your buddies from the Wii U Friend List. You can utilize any sets of rules with your own preferences, such as character customization being available or not, items being on or off, etc. It’s pretty much the same as Local battles, but you are playing with friends over the Internet.

Spectate Section
Within the Spectate section, you will find there are three options: Replay Channel, World Stats, and Spectate. Spectate is a mode where we get to watch other people battling it out, while placing bets on the outcome. It’s pretty similar to SaltyBet but our very own Smash Bros. version!

Conquest
It’s a fun feature where a “Conquest” is decided with specific characters, based on region. Anytime you play With Anyone mode, you are influencing the statistics of the characters you use. Conquests are tabulated over periods of time by Nintendo and you can check up on their results by selecting Conquest from the menu.

LAN Adapter
I’m going to speak for myself and Sakurai. We encourage everyone to buy a Lan Adapter for Wii U to achieve an overall better experience for online battles.

6.4. Customization

For Nintendo Characters and Guests
For the first time in Smash history, we will be able to customize the playable characters’ Special movesets. Every fighter will have 3 choices available for each of its 4 special moves. For the majority of characters, the customizations will essentially be variants of the same move; however, Palutena has the unique attribute that all 12 of her specials are largely distinct.

For Mii Fighters,
We can customize almost everything about the Mii Fighters! There are three different classes available: Mii Sword Fighter, Mii Brawler and Mii Gunner. They each come with 12 different special moves which allow us to set up our favorite movesets for our Mii Fighters. We are even able to customize our Mii with costumes, which split into two different categories: Headgear and Outfit. The Mii Fighters can also be given special Equipment and Powers; however, equipment, costumes and custom moves must first be unlocked in order to able to use these. One other interesting aspect of the Mii Fighters is they will, based on their own physical characteristics, be assigned to one of three power and speed balance categories.

3DS to Wii U transfer
Character customizations will be unlocked separately in the Wii U version than on 3DS. However, if you have certain pre-sets on 3DS, including both special moves and equipment, even if they are not unlocked yet on Wii U they can be transferred over. Bear in mind that only the pre-set is transferred, not the customizations themselves. In other words, you won’t be able to use any customizations which are shuttled over to Wii U in a new pre-set created on the Wii U unless they are unlocked again.

6.5. Stage Builder

One of best new features to debut in Brawl is back! Thankfully, it’s easier to make stages now since we can use the Wii U GamePad’s touchscreen to draw stage platforms directly. There are a myriad of components that you can add to your custom stages, including barrels, floating platforms, and magma, along with five different backgrounds. Overall the stage builder should be a lot more robust and user friendly than ever before, so go wild.

6.6. Vault

In this section you can view your collection of trophies and photo albums, as well as replay videos and listen to music. In the Vault you’ll also be able to bolster your trophy collection the old-fashioned way: buying them! Your collection will start off with one randomly selected trophy. Trophy Box is a new bonus feature that completionists and collectors will get a thrill out of. It lets you fill up a series of boxes with your earned trophies. Each Trophy Box would have a specific theme, such as Pokémon X and Y or Wii Fit. Also as a reminder, there are going to be way more trophies in the Wii U version than were present in Smash 3DS. Also worth noting is that, like with many other previously solo modes, Trophy Rush is now available for two players as well. This is a minigame which involves breaking open crates as fast as possible and collecting the rewards hidden within -- mostly trophies and some customization parts. Additionally, unlike in Smash 3DS, there is a Photo Studio mode specially designed to capture images of your trophies. You can mix and match a few trophies together and juxtapose them for your amusement.

Photos taken during the game can be viewed in the album; there is also a Wii U exclusive Paint mode where you can edit captured photos with a built-in art program. Finally, you’ll find in the Wii U version’s Vault a movie section, where you can watch all the trailers and videos that have been released. Also I would like to point out that clear videos are back; you can unlock those by clearing Classic Mode and All-Stars Mode.

There are few more extras in the Vault. Masterpieces is a returning feature which presents to you samples of various old video games from series represented in Smash Bros. Sakurai suggests purchasing the games on the Wii U eShop’s Virtual Console if you enjoy the sampling. Alternatively, try to see how far you can reach in the game during the limited time allotted! There’s also the Sound section where you can listen to the music of Smash Bros. at your leisure. Lastly, check out the Records section, which contains all the information about use of characters, stats, etc.

6.7. Challenges

Like Super Smash Bros. Brawl’s Challenges, there are a myriad of tricky trials which you need to complete to reap all the rewards. Once you unlock a panel, it allows you to take a peek at hints on how to unlock other panels that are adjacent to your completed panel. Sakurai is jumping on the HD bandwagon hard with the Wii U version of Smash Bros., which does away with the multiple pages of challenges found on 3DS in favor of one huge grid of 140. Keep in mind that the Wii U version’s Challenges might be tricker than the 3DS version’s… according to Sakurai.

7. Amiibo

The Amiibo platform is one of the biggest new features of Wii U, and Smash Bros. is where it all gets started. Amiibo are basically a line of collectible NFC figurines (much like Skylanders) which store a bit of data in the form of “Figure Players”. These allow us to level up our own personal CPU training partners, which we can take anywhere we want by carrying the Amiibo around. Visit friends’ houses and challenge them with your FP. Feed it equipment to improve its stats, and assign it custom moves as well as your preferred alt color. FPs can even learn techniques and tactics from battling with us!

Although for now Amiibo are specially designed for Smash, certain figurines will support other games in a limited capacity. For example, Mii costumes in Mario Kart 8 and special movesets for Zelda characters in Hyrule Warriors can be unlocked. Note that these games will not affect the data stored on your Amiibo; only Smash does that for now.

For more detailed information on Amiibo and how they will work with Smash Bros. follow the link provided here. (use the image of this paragraph to link to this url: http://www.smashbros.com/us/howto/entry8.html)

8. Post-Release Content

Apart from the Miiverse stage and Mewtwo, we will get a few extra features through updates.

Sharing is a feature where we can share our Mii Fighters, custom stages, snapshots and replays over the Internet with friends, but it won’t be enabled until a patch is released to add it to Smash for Wii U.

Tourney is an online mode to set up tournaments for people to get involved with. You can configure conditions for how people would win the tournament, and also adjust some settings to give the tournament a unique feel. There is not a lot of information out there for this feature quite yet!

Tournament is another feature that will be added via an update in the future. It would work just the same as it did in Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl. This Tournament mode allowed up to 64 players, and we can set its rules however we please..

FAQ

Q: Will the roster be different from 3DS?
A: No, but Wii U will have more characters available on the starting roster, with fewer to unlock.

Q: Will the stages in the 3DS version be different?
A: Most, but not all.

Q: Is it 60 fps?
A: Yes.

Q: What is Global Smash Power?
A: It’s a new type of online ranking system introduced for Smash Bros. Basically, it ranks us based on the scores that we have earned from the various modes in the game, including those which are offline and single player. The higher your score for a particular mode, the larger your Global Smash Power will become for it. GSP is also calculated individually for each character in some modes, and the total GSP for that mode will depend on your scores for all characters used. For example, if your GSP is 300,000 for Link in Classic Mode, it means you’ve scored better than 300,00 other people who’ve played as Link in Classic Mode (and set up GSP by going online).

Q: Can I take screenshots?
A: Yes (viewable in photo album).

Q: Can I save replays?
A: Yes, but information on the feature is still limited.

Q: What are the single player modes?
A: Classic mode, All Stars, as well as the Stadium events, Multi-Man, Target Blast and Home-run contest.

Q: Which modes are we are allowed to play cooperatively?
A: Classic mode, All-Stars, Event Mode,Trophy Rush, as well as the Stadium events (Multi-Man, Target Blast and Home-run contest). Also they now allow us to play as a team to engage in team online matches. (For Glory and For Fun)

Q: How many Pokéballs or Master balls can spawn at once?
A: Only 3 of them in total

added my name to the google doc feel free to add e if ya want just make sure you mention that your from gaf so i no its not random. :)

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Was about to post this in the POTD right before it closes. I present, the Smash Brothers Rap!

Here, here, here, here WE GO!
So it's finally here, on your Wii U
If you know the moves, you can play too!
Get your Gamecube Controllers ready, or your Wiimotes if you choose.
Miss on on this game, and you lose!

SMASH!

Super, Super Smash Brothers.
It's the original version, the 64 one we all know well.
Yeah, that one Nintendo thought would fail.
It's only got 12 characters, so pick carefully,
Or just be like everyone else, use Pikachu and Kirby.
It's older, weaker, and uglier, to boot
But it set the stage, got Smash on route!

SMASH!

Smash Brothers!
Smash Wii U is here!

3DS has portability, so don't hate too hard
You can take it anywhere, even in cars.
It can run 60FPS and handle some Luma
Just don't expect to play as Popo and Nana.
If you choose it, you're probably on a budget
But hell, it's Smash, so Sakurai can fudge it.

SMASH!
Smash Brothers!

It has no fans, it has no tourneys.
This Smash, was quite disappointing.
It can be modded, to suit your every need,
Like playing as Roy, or battling on Threed.
Subspace Emissary, was pretty fun.
But lots of fans wanted it gone.

SMASH!

Smash Brothers!
Smash Wii U is here!

It's still the favorite, and rightfully so.
Some would say the best thing ever made by Nintendo.
You can wave-dash real fast with Fox and Marth
On Final Destination, the fun never starts!
The gameplay is top-notch, stands alone
But too bad there's all those worthless clones.

SMASH!

Smash Brothers!

SMASH!

Finally, it's here for the big Wii U.
It's the version of Smash 4 that's totally true.
This game's got so many characters, it won't quit
Like Duck Hunt, Greninja, and fucking Dark Pit.
It can render eight characters, with relative ease.
Would of had the Ice Climbers if not for parity.
It may not have Break the Targets, and Smash Tour is lame
But this Smash, is one hell of a game!

SMASH!

C'mon Miiverse, tell me who you want!
Ridley, Toad, Geno and Goku!
Krystal, Shadow, Isaac, and Mewtwo!
Ridley, Toad, Geno and Goku!
Krystal, Shadow, Isaac, and Mewtwo!
Oh Yeah!

sorry

If it was up to me 0 would be unlockable and they'd all be there from the first minute. Though I know a lot of people would hate that.

Why does this make you sad? Personally I'd rather have every character available right from the get-go.

Only one more week to go until I can finally retire the 3DS version, woop.
The thing is I don't have anyone to play with locally and I want to enjoy this game. One way of doing that is to unlock characters.

I also understand those who don't want any unlockables as any character will then be selectible for competitive reasons.

I just want to know what the actual rule is now.

Is this mod approved, or just something that's being let slide?

Seda locked the POTD thread and linked this thread in his post. So, yeah I guess it's fine.

edit: I think the rule was put in place a little while ago. There was a sticky.

From what I see that most of games OT got posted like 12-15 hours before release date so I don't think moderators would object since it would give people enough time to consider purchase of the games.

I don't disagree (I actually think 48 hours would be even better), but they made a big deal about it being the day of exactly, not the day before in the sticky, so I want to know if that has changed officially or not.
