If anything it shows just how much Smash Bros plays a role in Nintendo's brand recognition. Most of the characters, even the obscure ones like Marth, that people were recognizing were from past Smash Bros. games.

No recognition for Shulk makes me sad because he was in my favorite RPG in 10 years. :( Oh well. Even my friends who play games didn't know him, but still knew what Xenoblade was.

I was disappointed there wasn't someone who got Shulk (at least not someone they showed). I'm not surprised, I just thought it would have been cool if at least one person got Shulk. The Fire Emblem characters, to no surprise, were tougher for most of them too. Oh well.

Unless they modify the character designs, nothing will change. Who sticks out to you more: a giant ape who wears a red necktie, or a blue haired swordsman? They couldn't even get Link's name right, and Zelda is one of the most iconic franchises in all of gaming.

I cant remember female marths name for the life of me and I own the game...Marth is superior for tip power and not middle of the sword power so who cares about her?

I think that goes to show how well designed Captain Falcon is. For someone who doesn't know the character to be that close with a guess is pretty cool.

I'm surprised Duck Hunt actually reminded a lot of people about Duck Hunt. Another example of good design.

Poor Link.

Although since you can rename him in practically every Zelda game, it's hardly surprising his name isn't well known. When I was young I always named him after myself, and for some reason didn't believe my Dad when he said his name was Link.

Rrecruiting new units and having everyone by the end of the game is a huge part of FE to me, and that completely turned me off the game, but this isn't really the thread to get into this.

Yeah too many obscure FE characters. Also I'm glad no one knew who Rosalina was. I feel like she's way too overrated as a Mario character.

i didnt know about fire emblem until marth in melee. i didnt know ike was from FE until brawl. i think robin and lucina are also from FE? i just now googled shulk and found out hes from xenoblade. i guess i dont know my jrpgs?

People not knowing about Fire Emblem characters should be unsurprising to everyone here. Hell, if not for /v/ and NeoGAF I would have no idea who they where. From the little bit of Brawl I played in college, we thought Ike and Marth were original characters
like Captain Falcon.
