I am curious about what's been added/changed from the last release. Does the game still ask the mountain climbing question? If so, how do you choose the new easy mode? Is there a new difficulty mode?

It might be a bit soon for these, but are unlocks (costumes, weapons, etc.) still tied to the difficulty you unlocked them on? How do you choose the new costumes, and are they the only new costumes in the game?

Yes, still same mountain climbing question.
Yes its selectable, there are 3 difficulties now, one additional easier one.
Regarding weapons, no idea right now, CVXFreak will probably update with this info.
There's the BSAA outfits for both Jill and Chris from RE5. BSAA Chris becomes the RE5 version of the model, and not the Remake version with the alternate outfit, which is cool.

Wesker's Report I and II are included. Are they the same as the previous incarnations?

Yes and no. Wesker's Report II is the same, but Wesker's Report I has been remade with a Japanese narration and cutscenes from later Resident Evil games (Zero, REmake, Operation Raccoon City, Darkside Chronicles, Umbrella Chronicles, Outbreak File #1 and File #2, and one small tidbit from RE5). The dialogue, only in Japanese this time, is mostly the same as the original with a few tweaks as to the order of some of the paragraphs. Not a huge deal and it's a bit amusing since Wesker's Report Iong ago stopped being anywhere near relevant to the series, but it's a nice view anyway.

Wesker's Report is 100% relevant to the series. For instance, they updated its script in 2003:

My name is Albert Wesker.
I attended the executive training center in Raccoon City, a suburban town in the American Midwest, where I intended to be a researcher at the pharmaceutical company Umbrella. However, I met my colleague William Birkin and decided to follow a different path in light of his unusual talent.
He soon became the scientist shouldering the heart of Umbrella and was charged with research on the G-Virus, a further development of the T-Virus, and I conducted a variety of intelligence operations under the guise of Captain of S.T.A.R.S., a special operations unit established by Umbrella in an eager attempt to please Raccoon City.
In return for our rewards, we entered into a secret agreement with Umbrella's leader Lord Oswell E. Spencer to betray our former teacher Dr. James Marcus, head of the training center at the time.

This section is much elaborated compared to the original. There's also this bit at the end:

Does the new video use the updated script?

The original WR video was a rushed mess and I believe they acknowledge this on the old official site, but the script was always canon. The "underground anti-Umbrella organization" included, which refers to the Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team seen in GS4, which is the same "secret military agency" Leon is said to belong to in BIO4 and Darkside Chronicles. People use this line as evidence that Gaiden is canon or that it was once intended to be, but this is like saying Operation Raccoon City is intended to be canon simply because it uses an organization from the canon titles (U.S.S.), or that the drama albums were meant to be canon because they use elements from the canon titles. "Side-stories" tend to use the canon as a foundation, but they diverge in a different direction at certain points, which is what Gaiden does.

I really can't recommend the new controls unless you're really unable to cope with the 17-year old control scheme used until now. The game just becomes far too easy. It's even worse than RE4 with the Wii Remote.

Wesker's Report is 100% relevant to the series

This isn't really the thread to debate this, but yeah, sure. It's just that the original purpose of the video, to show why Wesker came back, has been supplemented and fleshed out by more interesting material seen in future games. In fact, this remade version uses the videos from those newer games.

I would rather they have spent the time narrating Wesker's Report II instead, which would have been much better, but that's a discussion for another thread. Still, it's appreciated that we have something more modern now.

It has to be.

There has never been a unique Asian version of a Biohazard game on PS3. They all use the exact same code/settings as either the North American (ORC) or Japanese (RE5, Revival Selection, RE6, Chronicles HD, Revelations HD) release of a game. REmake HD will obviously use the Japanese version as its base. There should be no difference and their save files will almost certainly be cross-compatible.

On 360, every RE game disc except ORC and Revival Selection is unified globally.

The only exception to this has been RE titles on Nintendo platforms. The Korean Wii and Korean/Taiwanese/HK 3DS systems have gotten unique RE SKUs with the appropriate language options.

You need to go into recovery menu. Top of my head it's somthing like holding the power button to turn on PS3, and keeping it held until it turns off again. Then pressing and holding the power button again. It should do single beeps and then a quick double beep. let go of power button on the double beep. That should put you in recovery mode and there's an option to Rebuild (not restore!) Database.

Note it will delete all your messages and mess up your custom folders for Media and the like

It usually takes me about 15-20 mins on a stock 160GB drive. Ain't done it in ages though, and I also have no idea how much difference a larger and faster drive will take on the overall time

PS4's aren't that hot in Japan atm. Need some concrete numbers, but PS3s are more available (more potential sales).

If it's an SSD, you won't need to defrag it. There'd be no performance gain.

It was probably done for footage purposes. Reusing 1996/1998 PS1 footage in 2014 might have been a bit of a stretch.

I wouldn't look into it like that, per se. Wesker's dialogue is mostly the same as it's been with some subtle changes here and there. UC/DC are the only games around that can adequately show the Raccoon City disaster using modern CG/footage.

They're just very dumbed-down retellings to justify the on-rails gameplay for people new to the series. They mess with the established narrative because they can afford to, but they aren't meant to be taken at face value.

That's an optional scene. You can meet her for the first time tending to Richard in both the original and remake, which is what UC goes with. There never was a difference in her personality.

PS3 is only version getting a retail release( and only in JP ). All other versions will be digital.

I think it's accepted that UC/DC are still both only partly canon, in that, where they contradict the main games (not including RE1, RE1C of course, as REmake is clearly the current canon take on that story) they aren't canon, but where they fill in blanks, they are.
