Street Fighter 5 exclusivity- Witness the Hypocrisy

That article reads like a butthurt Xbox fanboy trying to find hypocrisy where there is none.

This is a very weird exclusivity "deal". When they say "PC" they are actually saying "Windows", i.e., a Microsoft platform. So then, why not releasing it for Xbox One too?

Here's my theory: The intention for the new SFV is to unify online, i.e., you can play against anyone, regardless of the platform they are using. And we all know this is something that Xbox Live doesn't allow and Microsoft are really stubborn about it (remember the Steamworks/Portal 2 PS3/PC "exclusivity")

If they unify the online this would be the fighting game of the generation.

Really doubt it, though, as it would mean less profit overall. And I'm pretty sure Xbone will get a release eventually.

It doesn't affect you in that you can buy the games as soon as they come out but it does affect you in that money is being allocated into buying games instead of creating new ones.

Oh I'll agree with that, this is a terrible trend that needs to end. I only bought my PS4 for exclusives and when I did that I was hoping the only exclusives I would need to buy were first party.

Just realized and confirmed SF exclusivity is nothing new.

Street Fighter was exclusive to the Turbografx CD.
Street Fighter II was exclusive to the Super Nintendo.
Street Fighter II CE was exclusive to the Turbografx.
Street Fighter II Special CE was exclusive to the Sega Genesis.
Street Fighter II Turbo was exclusive to the Super Nintendo.
Super Street Fighter II was the first cross platform, and came out for both the Super Nintendo and Genesis.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo was exclusive to the 3DO.
Street Fighter Alpha was the second to be cross platform, and came out for both the Playstation and Saturn.
Street Fighter Alpha 2 was the third to be cross platform, and came out for both the Playstation and Saturn.
Street Fighter Alpha 3 was the fourth to be cross platform, and came out for both the Playstation and Saturn (Japan) and Dreamcast (US and Japan).
Street Fighter III (all versions) was exclusive to the Sega Dreamcast.
Super Street Fighter II X was exclusive to the Sega Dreamcast.
Street Fighter IV (all versions) was the fifth to be cross platform, and came out for both the 360 and PS3.

Interesting.

so many errors in this post; won't even bother correcting your mistakes

Feels good to wake up to a megaton! Well, this just basically made my current gen purchasing decision for me. KI aside, PS4 just seems like it's gonna be the go-to console for fighting game players.

The art style looks better than SFIV but I wish it looked a little more different, rather than mostly a more polished version of that.

Either people are being facetious in suggesting that companies like Square and Capcom cannot fund the development of their own, largely popular franchises, or these companies have flushed more money down the toilet chasing mobile than even I was previously aware of. How is Metal Gear Solid V not relying on platform holder money?

Either way, I still think some later version of this comes out on more platforms. I wonder if this was actually cross gen in the recent past before publishers saw how quickly sales were drying up on PS3 and 360. I'm interested to see what else gets announced tomorrow. I don't think I've played too many Capcom games after RE5 other than some of Dragon's Dogma when it was put on PS+. A new Onimusha would be sweet, but that is probably in the same dust bin as anything you'd actually want Sega to publish. :-\

Exclusive to ps4 and pc? Man what a shit show. hopefully it's timed. otherwise huge dick move on the part of Sony and capcom

Lol are those the Tekken x Street Fighter character models that namco made fighting on a Resident Evil 6 background

Getting on PC my biggest issue is current gen arcade sticks not working on next gen

Street Fighter is way bigger than Tekken.
No it's not. Tekken is the best selling fighting game series of all time, and Tekken 3 is the best selling pure fighting game of all time. The only thing in terms of numbers SF has on Tekken is name recognition.
EVO ends with Street Fighter 4. They chose the right fighting game. They debatably chose the wrong Capcom game though.

I'm sorry, I don't know what EVO is. What would've been the right Capcom game?

Tekken 7 would've been the right fighting game for Ps4 man...

Do we know if SFV's situation is similar to Bayo 2 or not? I mean, did Sony save the game? Cause if it isn't, I'm not comfortable with this. PS4 is my console of choice this gen, but if this is the same situation as what MS did with Rise of Tomb Raider, I'm not happy with it.

I don't understand that point. Why do you think it would mean less profit? I think one of the problems of segregated online between platforms is that the online in the platform with less users becomes a wasteland, and eventually people just stop buying that version because of that. Unified online addresses that, so people can buy the version they want without having to worry about how many people would be online on that platform...

EDIT: ok, I guess you meant "[not releasing it in Xbox One] would mean less profit overall". I won't rule out a Xbox One version, but...a timed exclusivity for PS4...and PC (again, a Microsoft platform)?. The only explanation is that Xbox One was not viable for them for some reason, otherwise is the strangest exclusivity deal ever.

Nice try Sony. You think Microsoft cares? They have Minecraft. Prepared to get stomped at E3.

This is probably a joke post. But just in case it's not, I went and checked my game shelf and whew my PS4 copy of Minecraft is still there. I was afraid it had disappeared in a puff of smoke.

This is what Ono said about SFV last year.

Ono would like to make SF5, but expensive; would consider free 2 play Street Fighter

Ono lacks the budget & staff Street Fighter V; Ultra SF4 is PS360/PC "at this moment"

For this day and age it is certainly disappointing. Especially with the success of SF4 but I suppose sony has gone back to acquiring games again. Good for some and bad for everyone else.

Also, the reaction to this news on gaf is showing off a huge double standard... But I expect as much.

Thankfully I have a ps4.

Doubtful, else it wouldn't be on PC.

This is a leaked announcement so any Good Guy Sony speculative narrative being weaved in here is bullshit until we hear what the deal is.

Lol at people thinking it was accidental leak. When your about to have megatons in the next 30 hrs. Its better to "leak" the news so it doesn't drown out.

No reason to buy multiple versions to play different player-bases. Which is what a lot of fans did in SF4.

Unified online would mean you just buy one version and you're done.

Interesting.

Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike wasn't exclusive to the Dreamcast. It came out for the PS2 and Xbox.

BTW if gaf existed when Nintendo and capcom announced the SF2 exclusivity back then this is exactly how gaf would have reacted. Gives me nostalgia.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
Another Japanese Fighter skipping Xbox One......how expected..

Honestly after Guilty Gear Xrd this isn't suprising to me Japanese Developers want to make money too in their own homeland and that's obviously not going to happen with the XB1 so why should they put the time, effort, and MONEY to port it over to XB1 just to cater to the Western audiance? Given Capcom's history this may evntually find it's way to XB1 but who knows since Dead Rising 3 still hasn't made it over to PS4.

Well... SF is pretty big in the west too. In the US, the Xbone is fairly close in installed base to the PS4, so that may be a good reason, but what do I know?
