No Man's Sky Gameplay Trailer (TGAs)

Oh please. I aksed a very simple question.

"Do you want to play your own story". What is that supposed to mean? Do I want to play my own story in minecraft? Yeah maybe. But it's quite important to know what the game offers you to do just that.

There is a goal in the game. That's not enough directive for you?

If you don't like a game because you don't know enough about it, then don't buy it.
I know what the game offers me. An amazing sci-fi exploration game that's right up my alley just like Starbound.

So there is a world that's just full of water with no land?

That''s what the opening is leading me to believe and that's goddamn amazing if it's true.

Not sure about the portal system though, how would that work should you die or encounter a difficult situation and are unable to make it back to the portal to get your ship or does the ship transport with you?

And wrecks of other ships? OH HELL YES.

One major complaint is the amount of draw/pop in, looks like it will become pretty annoying. I understand the reasons for it after watching the BTS, but surely they could work on making it less noticeable?

It looks very impressive, both the art and the technical side of it. Entering the atmosphere looked really neat for example. I'm still not convinced about it as a game, but at least they seem to have succeeded with the graphics and the look of the universe.

Still don't see what you do in this game. Always just someone flying a ship to another planet where some dinosaurs walk ... looks more like a Voxel Engine Tech Demo. Don't get the hype.

What is it ?

This is a game, not real life...

If there is no main story, challenge, enemies etc then it will be dead quickly..So what is the point ? Travelling across universe and seeing planets with no purpose ?

The goal is to reach the centre of the galaxy. There's no overarching story, nor should there be as not every game needs a story, but there are goals in the game for you to work towards.

The more I see, the more boring it becomes. How many times you can see the exact same thing with different generated background? It will produce some nice wallpapers though.

Have they removed the seamless transition when you fly out of a planet? It said "warp engaging" and then it just magically warped into space. What the hell happened?

When people on GAF argue that they are more invested or knowledgable in the going-ons with games and the industry, I'll just point to a No Man Sky thread to lay that to rest.

I do wish some gameplay in a sizzle reel was shown as a tease. Can't really blame people for being frustrated at this point when every time there's an appearance of the game it gets hyped up as some new thing and, as cool as the implications of that trailer were, it turns out to be more or less the same footage or following the same framework.

Its called a warp drive you know going to other solar systems? The universe in this game is as big as our own universe. So to go to other systems you need a warp drive.

Did people play hundred of hours of Skyrim for the story? Or maybe it was exploring and discovering the game world, and interacting with the events therein.

Considering they show the seamless space to planet transition directly after that, I'm assuming they are just showing you the warping mechanic.

It looked like he was warping from the planet into space, rather than from one solar system to another. However from closer inspection it does seem he warped as soon as he got into space and then ended up in another solar system, so it's all good :)

This is a game for people with imagination and intellectual curiosity, who have looked up at the stars and dreamed of going there. For people who despise modern game design and its rigid sets of rules and tasks, collectables and lowest common denominator themes. Whose ideal for gaming was of exploring unknown worlds, being surprised at each turn by something not seen before, recreating a sense of wonder and escape.

It is developed by a talented group of individuals who read science fiction and dreamt of a virtual recreation that would bring some of the possibilities of the unknown, the tantalising thought of something else, to the medium.

I am sure the myriad of meaningless tasks you complete in various existing games will give you the validation you need.... Personally I will dream a little richer thanks to no mans sky.

Maybe this kind of game is too difficult grasp for the kind of instant gratification society we live in. You can explore an entire universe of different planets, creatures and mysteries. It's basically like a one man Star Trek. If people are not excited by that, it's no wonder NASA lost so much of its funding.

Has it been said whether or not you can build things in the game yet? I'm so incredibly excited for No Man's Sky already but if we can also build things on these worlds we discover that'd send me through the roof.

Wow. This is really something. Almost arrogant. For intellectual curiosity people read books and scientific articles and watch things like Cosmos. This is a game about generated galaxies and stars and planets and has nothing to do with the real universe out there. There is no "intellectual curiosity" to be satisfied in it, except for the one about procedural generation and how well can be done. The rest, the travel, the space, the planets, the movement, the physics, all it seems to be a lot more arcade than simulation from whatever footage we have seen now.

Pretty sure you can't build things.

Think of it this way.

Each planet has a set determined position in the universe. The planet you are given is a planet that you slowly unravel and learn, but here's the amazing part. That planet is a permanently saved seed that can be found by other players actively flying through the universe; note one singular universe shared between players. The creatures are also randomly created through modular design, each with unique names and characteristics, Some are friendly while others may hunt you down. The "point" is documenting your found experiences and being able to prosper enough to make your way to the center of the universe. Why? No one knows yet. Your treadmill of gameplay, from what I've gathered from the info given so far, is that Hello games is trying to make the worlds that are created, connected in a sense. They aren't just a string of ones and zeros that can be auto loaded at your leisure; they are new places where people have survived, traded, prospered.

Hello games seems to be building the infrastructure for something that could be pretty great, but that's just how I feel on a superficial level. The game could release and bare no redeeming qualityies, but until then I reserve my judgemrent that the game has something special going on.

Real smart people doing something extremly dumb/risky. Its exciting!

Guys, man. The trailer DOES showcase the mechanics.

Dude I don't even know why you actually try to explain it again and again, some people just dont want to understand the game it seems.

Trailer is amazing, this looks like a total dream game.

I'm pretty sure they said crafting like Minecraft isn't part of the game. Resources are essentially mined for money/fuel. Have seen ruins or other structures in the trailers though.

Still no clue what you do in this game.

I like 65 days of Static though.
You explore. That's what I've understood.

Edit: lol at all the u guys are too dumb to understand it posts.

All the gameplay we have seen involved walking and flying about. Doing nothing other than explore.

Don't act like you're some kind of elite sophisticated gamer who understands the game, while other people are lowly peasants.

The hype comes from the videos and reading/listening to what the devs say we will be able to do.

OK, watching the Game Awards I learnt that 65daysofstatic are making a soundtrack, also played an amazing song there.

Game redeemed regardless of its eventual quality or lack thereof :)

Another reason i dream and talk a lot about space because it is so massive but also using my imagination watching, reading books about the universe and all in between.

I love science and astrophysics somethings i do not understand but in laymen talk just to think when leaving earth and explore my curiosity. After watching Cosmos with Neil degrasse and Interstellar my peak has gone in overdrive and that's why i want this game so bad.

This whole thing reminds me of Spore, which also looked really fascinating in trailers, but the actual game part was incredibly boring. Hope I'm wrong.

The main way I can see this potentially being an issue is that since everything is procedurally generated, I wonder how they will try and make the planets more interesting to explore. I'd love to see remnants of a lost civilization or interesting things in the world to figure out. I remember them saying that even after you reach the center of the universe the game isn't over. So I wonder what else there might be (aside from finding new planets).

Waaaait, they are actually making the whole soundtrack for the game? That's even more awesome then.

People still comparing it to spore? Smh c'mon man that is a different game. I do not see the same thing here at all.
