wait people are complaining sony got a console exclusive? Really?

What about sunset overdrive and ryse? it's not like xbox one hasn't done the same.
Sunset and ryse were not previously multi platform and in no way comparable to one of video games biggest franchises like street fighter.

i thought there were hints of sony funding the game, it being in a similar situation to Dead Rising 3? Or did i imagine bruceleroy saying that?

Just curious...if ms goes and buys 10 big multiplat franchises for xb1 only will that be good?

they are running a business. what part of that you people can't understand? more exclusives on their own console = more sales. if you want to have most multiplatforms just get a PC.

"While the original Tomb Raider was released on both the PlayStation and Sega Saturn game consoles, Tomb Raider II was no longer designed for the Sega Saturn despite having been confirmed as a target platform for the game in the first place. Following the cancellation announcement, Adrian Smith cited technical limitations of the console to program an adequate conversion.[9] In September 1997, Sony Computer Entertainment America signed a deal with Eidos to make console releases for the Tomb Raider franchise exclusive to the PlayStation, preventing the Sega Saturn or the Nintendo 64 from having any Tomb Raider game released for it until 2000, a deal that would prove very beneficial to Sony both in terms of revenue dollars and also in further cementing the PlayStation's growing reputation as the go-to system for must-have exclusive titles.[10]"

I want the receipts, who is rooting for anyone?

I'm really excited about SF V being a thing. I'm glad I own both platforms it's on, but not owning an Xbox doesn't stop me from getting really excited to see Scalebound.

So, Sony were the bad guys the whole time? What a twist!

As a PS4 owner I definitely agree with the complaints. I for one would be pissed if I was a Xbone owner as Street Fighter is probably my favourite videogame IP, and for it to be exclusive when previous titles were not would have got me upset but I know I would have had no option but to buy a PS4. Luckily I went with PS4 instead of Xbone but I definitely understand the frustration coming from Xbone owners. I was pissed that Tomb Raider is timed exclusive but it didn't bother me too much as I ain't a huge fan of that series and it's a type of game I can wait for time exclusive period to be over where as Street Fighter V I would need to be there day 1.

Anyway let's compare notable 3rd party exclusives between the systems

BloodBorne - From Software
Street Fighter V - Capcom
Deep Down - Capcom
Disgaea 5 - NIS
Guilty Gear Xrd - Arc Systems
Persona 5 - Atlus

TitanFall - Respawn
Sunset OverDrive - inSomniac
Rise of the Tomb Raider - Square Enix
Dead Rising 3 - Capcom
Ryse - Crytek
Scalebound - Platinum Games

If you include indies the list would be bigger but I have just stuck to retail games.

If you're including Japanese games, there's plenty of more third party exclusives than that, notable or otherwise.

Straight up East vs West, with the exception of Scalebound.

All this nonsense whining about companies getting exclusives, and acting like it is both unfair, and practically unprecedented, is hilarious.

I was around for the Xbox. Guess what I had to do in order to play Okami.

Guess what I had to do to play Metroid Prime.

I was around for the PS1. Guess what I had to do in order to play Guardian Heroes.

Guess what I had to do in order to play Skies of Arcadia.

I was around for the Genesis. Guess what I had to do to play Final Fantasy VI.

Guess what I had to do to play Bonk's Adventure.

I was around for the NES. Guess what I had to do, in order to play Phantasy Star.

Console exclusives have been around since the advent of the industry.

To rail and rant in a hissy fit of mistaken ethical entitlement, as if this were some modern conspiracy, is to know nothing of the hobby itself.

Exclusivity isn't unfair. It is a business decision. Get over yourselves.

I hope Capcom goes nuts with the animation in general as well as the backgrounds. They're no longer being hampered by the Taito Type X² PC-based arcade hardware which was limited in terms of upgrade options unlike a standard PC, and also, 360 / PS3, which will have been on the market for around a decade by the time SF5 is released.

exactly, what would be the point of having two console on the market that plays exactly the same games?

I don't think it's a big deal but when it's a sequel to a multi platform game or game that was on another system before people react. This the reason people reacted badly with Final Fantasy VII, Bayonetta 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Tales of Vesperia, Resident Evil 4 and etc.

But Gaf told me that M$ started this!!!

We can continue further down the rabbit hole and discuss Nintendo's 8-bit and 16-bit era iron fist of literally withholding technology (larger memory carts) from publishers for working with SEGA?

Exclusives are the lifeblood of any console, it is no surprise that 1st parties go to great lengths to secure them.

The larger problem with the recent events (SF5, TR2) is the trend towards buying already established, already likely in-progress games likely destined for multi-plat simply for another feather in the cap.

Sony and Nintendo have, in recent years, actually done quite well at moving away from the exclusive purchasing racket and instead have been improving first party development, funding smaller studios, and most recently really supporting the indie scene. All of that results in new content we otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Net plus for the consumer.

MS of late has been much more willing to buy exclusivity of content already in the pipeline, adding nothing new for any consumer and removing something from the access of others.

I recall intimations from Capcom a few years ago suggesting that SF5 would be a long ways out as new consoles meant all new assets and a big budget they were unsure on risking until the audience had grown large. If Sony getting this as an exclusive accelerated the release of SF5 I'd be ok with that, because lets be honest this is Capcom. SSF5 will probably be on XB1 anyway. Hell, SSF5TEXWHATEVER will probably be on the 3DS in four years. Capcom has never been shy about milking every last drop from SF, even back in the SNES era they were doing it.

If that wasn't the case and this was really just Sony re-joining the exclusive purchasing game then that really sucks. Not much else to say about it. Video games and all that. But seeing an industry that really grew in mainstream acceptance and popularity over the last 1.5 generations effectively descend into a cold war arms race all for the instant gratification of a single generation or quarterly earnings report is disappointing.

I feel like Obi Wan Kenobi on Tatooine, wishing a young dolt I've been watching from affar by name of Indie Self-Publishing Skywalker would get his shit together, but he hasn't learned how to stop sexually harassing every chick with hair buns that crosses his path. Besides, he'll just sell out anyway and spawn three shitty prequels about my time with his douche father.

Since upgrading my PC will cost more, looks like I'm getting a PS4 when this releases. Must have.

I just wish they'd tone down the emphasis on how ripped.. and not just ripped, but gigantic he is. Shotos have been portrayed to have a lot of muscle, fine.. but the sheer definition combined with how thick the lines are just makes it look bad in my opinion.

Also, 3s had a nice flow to it, which has been missing since.

well it is about time PS4 is getting some exclusive loving.

Great move!
It's this type of attitude we don't need. Buying exclusives is a bad trend, and not something anyone should be behind. If you're a fan of a third-party series, wouldn't you want the title to sell as much as posdible?

Of course you want, saying anything else and you're deep into fanboy territory.

Where? I'm in the mood to read bs like that atm.

If you have about equal consoles hardware wise every exclusive is because of moneyhats. I assume this is the beginning of Sony's answer to MS for buying exclusives.

Instead Sony pulled a Microsoft

Guess I'll be playing this on PS4 and TR on X1.

Reap what you sow I guess Microsoft.

And gems like this

You anwered it: tthey pulled a MIcrosoft. Pretty sure that if MS didnt do stuff like this, Sony wouldn't neither

Is tr2 coming to pc? Microsoft shouldn't be upset, they started this 3rd party exclusive bs.

But really, you can just check for yourself ;)

I do think Street Fighter being exclusive is going to hurt MS more than people like to let on as it seems Sony is trying to shore up the entire Fighting game community. GG,SF and Marketing deal with MK. Street Fighter has generally been on every console so making it exclusive is bad for XB1 owners in the same way that making TitanFall and Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusive to XB1 is bad for PS4 owners.

but it's out of anyone who posts here control, what difference does an attitude make?

Do you understand that forum goers are NOT the majority of the consumers who even purchase consoles? Until we have one standard console exclusives and deals will continue to be made. I said this shortly after the reveal that Xbone/PS4 are just too close and similar in design and philosophy they are going to butt heads.

Look at Wiiu though, perfect compliment system to either one of those. MS or Sony just needs to do something different, they're both playing the same game. and it doesn't help consumers. If you look at sales, you'll see that the numbers are just split, hardly any franchise has grown since PS2 days besides GTA/COD.
