Legend of Zelda Wii U Gameplay Demo

Another clear sign of downgrade is the fact that the game dosent run on full screen anymore. The playable area is now only a small box to the left, while the rest of the screen is taken by the image of two man talking. Here´s proof

Compare it to the footage shown at e3 and you will notice that the old version uses the full screen, instead of the terrible downgrade we see now

I hope we can replace the men with our own miis.

The still scene from E3 has more life in it than this entire demo. Talk about devoid of life, they couldn't have pieced together a more boring video.

It looks great. Can't wait to see the finished product and see it in a clearer image with enough footage to see something more representative of the game as a whole

I think it's meant to be raw empty space between "islands" of interesting areas.

Otherwise it would be impossible to 100% the game, finding all pieces of hearts etc. Just imagine having to explore every inch of the world. By having generic landscapes you also achieve greater contrast to points of interest "suspicious looking stone" in a sea of generic ones help draw your attention without explicitly telling you about it, giving the illusion of discovery.

I think the landscape will have optional challenges like rupee reward from caves, epona combat events, collecting apples and whatnot. In many ways the train part of Spirit Tracks, sea in WW and so on.

While the actual patches of areas within the world contains all of the substance and will be differentiated with more impressive graphics as well as more detail. Like an oasis in a sea of nothing, a local haven.
Or hyrule castle :D

And both look so unrealistic. Just look at what the PS4 and Quantic Dream can do

Nintendo has to step up their old-men tech ! So lifeless.

It's great to get surprise Zelda footage but the stuff they showed was boring. Horse based combat looked slow and boring and trying to hype up how big the world is does nothing for me. They look to be overly focused on style. Forget style and make better gameplay.

How do you draw this conclusion?

Not sure how anyone can really tell anything by that video. I watched it on Nintendo's YouTube channel and the camera is too far away to really see anything. I couldn't even make out the grass most of the time, even though I could tell something was there. Still, I liked what they showed and I'm looking forward to running around in this new land. Can't wait!

If it's 2015 for sure that means its late November meaning about 11 months meaning the greatest game of all time will be out in 11 months. Get in, sit down, shut the fuck up and hold on because it's time to ride this miserable wait out into the great beautiful yonder. None of you including myself are ready for this shit. If you think this is hyperbole it may very well be from your own perspective and that's cool but I joined GAF because I wanted to be in a community that gets hyped as fuck about awesome, polished videogames that promise exceptionally fun and engaging experiences and that's what I'm gonna do.

It's the Legend of Zelda mother fuckers and as usual it will be grand and will define the coming year and following holiday season for me so if you think my hype is on overload now just wait until E3 where I will officially go off the deep end, as they say. We all have our own point of lunacy. This is mine. So go ahead and bitch about that empty overworld while you can because your time will soon be up.

Join me or pay the price, fools.

After reading through all the posts, I still see no reasons for concern.

This is Nintendo, they have never/rarely downgraded anything. That said, the footage serves merely as a demo of the things that they are implementing on the game, gameplay wise, and as always, we are acting way to picky on the technical end when the game is one year away, more or less.

I'm sure the guys at EAD just put together what they could get ready to show to tease us just that bit more, game is still ways off and it's going to be awesome, of that I'm sure.

Jesus christ some of the reactions on here!

I thought it looked wonderful, the whole point of the video was to build off what had been shown at E3. They said the game had a large scale, here they proved it. They said that vaulting off the horse was a mechanic and not a cut scene, here we see it actually being done. That was the whole point of the video, not to show off extra unknown features (besides I guess the sail cloth and Epona controls).

I've joined you! This can be like Skyward Sword again where you and I will love the game and slowly, sadly shake our heads at the haters. ;__;

In 11 months the best game ever made will come out and one of the best hated games ever made will be seen as the masterpiece that it is. It's a win win situation all around.

2 - Trees are very very bad, I think that most are placeholders though, as they seem simple copy paste jobs.

The first trees you see, the ones where you can see the individual branches are NOT simple cut and paste jobs. Take another look at them and you'll see they each have different amount of branches and in different places.

Now, if you're saying that they all look the same, well yeah, trees of the same type tend to do that.

remember E3 3D World vs. October Direct 3D World?

That game always looked awesome. It's just that as they made progress and had more to show it looked even more awesome. Then people were like oh well yeah I guess that does indeed look awesome. And it was, just like Zelda will be.

Didn't watch lol!

No way I'm spoiling this for myself in any way. Media blackout starts now.

Won't be spoiled much. They only show that the world is big. No bosses, two enemies, and some field riding. That's it.

As much as I enjoy hearing Aonuma and Miyamoto shooting the shit, this was an absolutely terrible way to show off the game. Horrible, horrible, horrible. This is Zelda, for Christ's sake. This is supposed to be one of the most treasured franchises in gaming. Would you please make a bigger deal out of that. For crying out loud. This may as well have been Aonuma and Miyamoto watching paint dry while having a friendly conversation. There was zero excitement.

Did they forget about the reveal of Twilight Princess? Did they forget the kind of reaction a new Zelda CAN create?

People like bashing Nintendo just for the sake of it.
It wasn't the best way to show off the game, but, hey, it's an early version of the game, still in development.

I liked the video and I look forward to playing the game and I prefer this kind of showing rather than a tightly scripted 2-min trailer of the setpieces. But OK, that's just me.

I don't think Nintendo ever downgraded a game in all their history, they surely won't start now. That said the presentation felt like a rushed job that lacks the excitement of the E3 trailer. They could've shown it a million times better.

Maybe it's for the best for now, it was just a way to give fans a new look at the game as its in development. All it will take is a big E3 trailer and this showing will be history.

People love The Wind Waker, but that was far, far worse than this in terms of giving you an interesting open world. One could go many minutes without having to control anything or coming by an interesting location. If people didn't have a problem with that before, why do they have one now?

I wouldn't be surprised if they received support or code from Monolith Soft to render the terrain. Looking forward to seeing what it ends up looking like and how that world is populated.

People did have a problem, though. It was even acknowledged by Nintendo with the fast sail...
