Destiny locks non-DLC users out from Weekly Strikes when DLC content is in rotation

Actually was thinking about picking this up to try it recently for both my brother and I... but fuck that I ain't supporting that kinda shit if the OP is true.

Edit: wait only locked for a week?

you should really try the game out for yourself before listening to a bunch of people complaining. make your own judgement. I believe there's a trial demo for the game up on psn right now.

Hey guys, Street Fighter 4 is a rip off! I played in every stage on the first day! (The game IS over after you see all the backgrounds right?)

Oh well, guess I'll work on beating Madden now by playing a game in all the stadiums.

what does any of this nonsense have to do with a MMO subscription fee

I hope many people have at least learned a lesson and will buy physical going forward. The digital future is and has always been a fraud, the goal was to screw gamers from the very start. Digital download is about power and control over how content owners allow content buyers to use content, and the only way to fight it is to buy physical media.

I don't think it's so much digital vs physical as it is learning to wait for reviews or user impressions before buying a game. There's absolutely no reason to pre-order games anymore yet people keep doing it.. and for what? Shitty pre-order bonuses like custom skins for $500,000 of in-game currency? lol.

while appreciate your response and want to agree with you (I currently love playing Destiny) neither of those games have a sub, which was his point

A sub for a game that essentially ended after 10 hours and all you had left is grinding the raid? You crazy.

When I say "I'd like a sub" I'd also like all the good stuff that comes with a subbed MMO: meaning new areas, dungeons, loot, bosses, story, holiday events, etc. I played WoW until the first expansion, and EVE for about about a year and the content just kept coming. It was pretty wonderful.

Also, that would mean no splitting of the userbase like we're seeing now, at least not until the "big" expansion comes out.

lol people brought up WoW as an example of "locking content", well WoW adds more content over the course of an expansion without ANY additional cost, Mists of Pandaria shipped with a new continent, 6 dungeons, 3 raids, 7 3-man scenarios, at the end of MoP this expansion alone has 2 additional raids, 15+ more scenarios, two completely new questing areas and numerous new features, for free as long as you subscribe, it slaughters Destiny in regard of content.

Also it didn't lock people out of old content too.

So I feel like different folks are saying different things, but if you only own the core game are you not able to earn rare/legendary engrams anymore? How are you supposed to level up?

vanguard or crucible marks + the new vendor inventories

Literally nothing has changed other than the two blue engrams you would get at the end of a lvl 24 strike being moved to the lvl 26 strike. Nothing else is different.

There's no guarantee that Destiny would be different with a sub. If we're going full speculation it could even be worse on some areas. For example, Bungie's already shitty communication with its existing customers would be even more terrible if those were subbed customers.

I didn't know the strike guaranteed 2 blue engrams. I thought it was all up to the RNG.

I'm beginning to think The Dark Below
is referencing the amount of content left to the playerbase beneath the DLC paywall.

My umbrage is with the bolded part. The game doesn't end after 10 hours, unless you're looking at it purely from a "I saw all the initial story missions" perspective.

Whether Destiny should have a sub or not, I don't know. I'd say no, because while it has infinitely more replayability than a lot of the "I beat it in a day" people claim, it's not WoW either.

But my post is in response to the "I beat it in a day" mentality, which I'm not singling Marcel out in, there are a ton of people who say that stuff.

If you want to feel really ripped off-----I bought the $100.00 edition of the game, had to do a factory reset of my PS4 like 2 weeks ago, trying to install the game all yesterday and today----stuck at 62%. I've troubleshooted to hell and back. Nada.

So now I have a $100.00 paper weight. Thanks Bungie!

I don't know, I want to like Destiny. Its fun to play, especialy with friends, but I don't know if I can support this behavior... It seems dodgey.

Maybe I will just sell my copy.

If we're going by the existing state of Destiny, the point is that amount of content would be fucking paltry for a subscription fee on top of existing XBL/PSN costs and the $60 retail point of entry.

Bungie could have a FUCK YOU pop-up when you load the game and some people would still say Destiny is great.

Let me say it once more: Destiny is fucking garbage.

14 hours to do Vault of Glass? Did they take a nap inbetween attempts?

It was mostly because at the time everyone was underleveled (around 25-27) without maxed weapons and no idea of what to expect. The team that went into it this time were all maxed at lvl 30 (there might have been a 31 in there as well). Grats to them for being the first, I've heard it's pretty tough.

Me and my friends are jumping in tonight. Going in full blind, I expect a good amount of fun as we learn it.

At that point, no one knew what they were doing and most players were level 27, tops.

The last boss fight is really a giant, fairly complicated puzzle, and I'm sure it took a long while to trial and error through it.

No way. You're lying. This can't be true. Can it?
I'm afraid it is. I was really looking forward to this expansion because I thought they'd actually unlock new areas to explore. But no, it's only a few tiny rooms. This is the epitome of laziness. I can't believe they dared to charge 20 € for this.

The content and the way Bungie is handling it, it's worse than garbage. But the multiplayer and the shooting mechanics are great, IMO.

On the other hand, you're going to get far better sales and deals buying digital in the tail of a game's life.

Like the PSN sale happening now or Steam sales. Digital will always provide the best promotional pricing.

But yeah, day 1 digital pre-orders? Never again.

Technically, what do you expect?
When COD comes out with a map pack, it limits the amount of lobbies non dlc buyers can get into for the rest of the year
This excludes people for one week every month and few days

It's kind of unprecedented how much they wasted a game with excellent mechanics, then bungled further with abysmal PR and post-release support. I can't really think of something comparable on the console-exclusive AAA game scale.

Yeah, I know.

I guess I'm just wishing that there was more content, or that there was some indication that there will ever be more content in Destiny. After the release of this pack it's clear that nothing substantial is coming. I really like what's there. I just wish there was more of it.

Pretty much... that's why I prefer fighting games with story modes. The last BlazBlue story took me 20+ hours to finish.

I'm usually bored with Street Fighter games after a day or so, so this is accurate.

You're somewhere between Bargaining and Depression. You're almost there, lol.

Honestly when I bought the game I realized it was barren, but I heard they promised 10 years out of it, so I figured there would be free planets, missions and things constantly added to the game.
I thought the base game was just the beginning and there was more to come, I didn't realize it was all going to be DLC that doesn't even add much to the game.
No new planets, no new story.

This game is such a fucking wasted potential, it makes me angry, because I really wanted what it promised.
This is pretty much me. I even bought it on two platforms to play with two sets of friends.

I didn't really want to dive into the argument or this thread, but i was saying almost exactly the same thing to friends earlier. both this and last-few-years-of-call of duty could be considered $7-8/month sub based games with just a different billing model. COD doesn't get its campaign extended either.

I went in to Destiny thinking of it like this, I have the season pass, and I'm perfectly ok with it.

That being said, I don't disagree at all with everyone that is pissed off today because of the weekly/strike changes. But I'll still be playing later, next month, next year, and buying the next season pass that shows up... I'm hooked.

There's a thing called Strike Playlist in the game. It has different tiers for different level versions, but basically, it puts you into a queue to be matched to a random instanced dungeon.

Pre-expansion, the highest level of this was Vanguard Tiger, which scaled the content to level 24 and gives bonus engrams (unidentified items) on completion - this is in addition to what may drop during the mission itself.

With the expansion, a new playlist called Vanguard Roc was introduced, which matches content to level 26. This new playlist rewards bonus engrams, which are no longer rewarded from Vanguard Tiger.

So you'll still get engrams, but you just don't get the bonus engrams you used to get from Tiger, as that reward has been moved up a tier, to the tier that requires DLC to play. This part is kind of scummy.

Additionally, a lot of people are loudly miffed about new content being added to the Weekly Heroic and Nightfall events, which are both great ways to get gear without raiding, but what's actually happening is that players simply can't play content they didn't purchase. Realistically, it's pretty reasonable to think that new content would be added to a weekly rotation, even if you didn't purchase it yourself.

The new raid took 6 hours to beat by the first group.

In comparison, Vault of Glass took about 14 hours for the first group to beat it.

I don't know what's in the new raid, but VoG had a couple stupidly designed challenges that are super hard the first time, and then super simple every other time.

The Gorgons for example probably took them a long time, but is trivial now.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying the VoG clear time was padded by some stupid stuff.

2.) Removed loot drops from strike playlist for non DLC owners
Pre DLC: Any difficulty dropped loot
Post DLC: Only DLC difficulty drops loot now

Loot (as in engrams) didn't drop on every difficulty, just the highest (24 pre DLC). So it just moved it to new level 26 playlist. Even with that though, I completely agree that it's BS. The weekly heroic/nightfall thing is especially bad.

The only reason I can see people pre ordering nowadays is one, or a combo of, several reasons:

1) They're so hype for a game that they know they want it, so no matter what they have to get it day one as soon as possible, either at 12am digitally, or the day of release via amazon
This only makes sense if they love the series to death, which seemed to be the case with Destiny even though it's not actually Halo. I was the same way with Smash 4 because hot damn do I love smash and I needed it day one.

2) It is known, or heavily rumored, that there will be a shortage of said game on release.
Nintendo is notorious for this practice (at least recently). Heck, I preordered Smash 4 with the GC adapter and amazon still didn't get me the adapter until days after release.

3) They actually want the pre order DLC/Special Edition content
Which may be hard to believe for some people, but it's actually not all that unreasonable if somebody likes the content enough.
