STEAM | December 2014 - Read OP for winter sale questions

if only there was some sort of seasonal period where games become cheaper than they are right now... like some sort of sale perhaps? maybe a winter sale?

nah thats crazy talk

If only there was a time before all these Valve trading restrictions where things were easily obtained from Russia at cheap prices...

I know if such a time ever existed, I could very well see my # of games skyrocket from the 900 range to over 2500...

I am now sad that my DOA knowledge is worse than I thought. Then again I havent played one in ages.

just found out hatred is apparently banned from steam?

even if i find that game despicable i don't want steam choosing not to let me play what i feel might be interesting. a wrong pr move and maybe hotline miami could've been similarly banned

that's pretty bullshit
Steam as a store has the right to choose what to sell and what to not sell. Shouldn't be a real problem for anyone unless you're one of the no steam no buy crowd.

The funny thing is that DOA5 Vanilla originally only had natural movement but fans didnt like the natural breast movement so to cater to the part of the fans who are in for the fan service they gave them options.

It's in times like this that I strive to remember Luke, but there is no forgiveness in my heart.

Hatred can be sold outside of steam and those interested can acquire it and play it still. As Atraveller said Steam as a store can choose what to and what not to sell.

the problem is that it's so arbitrary. that game's awful but so is manhunt and steam has no issue selling manhunt

it's also pretty sad of steam to feel morally obliged to protect people from something like hatred while letting all kinds of scammy early access games and 1992 shovelware rereleases go through no problem

idc if they can sell whatever they want, it's a dumb decision and i'm gonna call em out for being dumb like i always do

stop being dumb about everything steam

just yesterday i praised you for letting me stream once, i'm capable of love, just stop hurting me

Im gay so its not like Im really perving over it. I do appreciate the realism on wet effects and dirt effects from a technical point of view actually.

Now if you want creepy go here. (Optional stuff and not intrusive to your gameplay if you dont want the fanservice)
yea i hope you get that i'm just fooling around with it

so gay or not i'll judge you until next time i shame myself and i don't have the moral grounds to

Manhunt didnt get a shitstorm at the time of the PC release so there was nothing to worry about there but if there was controversy like Hatred got it might have gotten pulled our not released in the first place.

I wonder if Tecmo has outsourced their boob physics engine to other errrm digital erotica companies. It would practically print money!

A few years ago there was a third party shadow engine announced specifically for issues such as breasts. I wonder if that ended up in DoA.

again with Manhunt?

In Manhunt you play a guy stuck in a snuff film production trying to survive against a bunch of murdering psychos

In Hatred, you play as guy with the goal of comitting genocide (im quoting the developers)

edit: and why do you think they are doing this to protect anyone. Maybe they are doing it because they dont want to support the game or the developer with known racist remarks, and possible ties to neo nazi groups?

Other companies like illusion and select russian indie eroge companies got better boob physics than DoA. It should be the other way around.

No one said Valve is perfect :p

Inconsistency still doesn't change the fact that they retain the right.

This.

It's also not really censorship since it's just steam and not a dystopic government banning the game. I dont really understand how people link this to censorship.

10 gems says that when Greenlight is abolished in favour of a Google Playesque system, we'll see Hatred on Steam. Once "the floodgates open" Valve's role will shift from gatekeeper to curator, so if nothing else the devs will enjoy a few hours of sales.

tbh i couldn't find the proper thread because i kept searching until like page 15 and it was all a bunch of one-page closed threads that were like "there's already a thread so closing this"

despite what my name says, i'm cool with not wanting to support nazis tho, so if that's the reason, i'm ok with it

If it were just a matter of violence I'd agree with you, but apparently the devs actually have ties to real extremist right wing hate groups, and the in game content reflects a some of those views. I think it's reasonable for Valve not to want anything to do with that. The game can still be sold elsewhere, if anyone feels that it's important for it to be available.

It's the context of the content. Manhunt is a survival game where the people you kill are not innocent but psychopaths so morally speaking there is no problem with the main character killing them as it is self defense. Hatred on the other hand is just the I hate everyone and I hate my life so Im gonna go out with a bang and kill everything on sight therefore innocents.

See how now that kinda changes the way violence has different values?

mind you, its all hear say (well the neo nazi ties, I believe the racist tweets are actually real), but still, just that these allegations exist. I didnt even touch on the fact that in the trailer the character is basically a extremist nutjob that is about to mass murder a bunch of people and then die by one presumes, suicide by cop, or just plain suicide.

he LITERALLY says "im going to kill as much people as I can and die". The phrase "my genocide crusade begins now"...Seriously, you are playing as one of those fuckers you hear on the news that shot a bunch of kids in some school and then shot themselves.

How is this remotely ok, and how is it remotely like Manhunt, or any actual game. Its not the violence per se, its what / why you do it.

And btw, Epic already said "yeah get our logo the fuck off that game / trailer please, we want no part of this", its not just Valve

People white knighting this on behalf of censorship either didnt watch the trailer, or..well... I dont know :/

similarly morally rotten games already in steam (suddenly call of duty games come to mind) so if it's just because hatred got that pr shitstorm i find that pretty bad

if it's because the devs are nazis then i can understand hating nazis and i'm cool with it

i watched the trailer, i already said i find the game disgusting in many ways but i don't like the idea of valve banning games over content (specially in regards to sexual content but that's another point)

like a game that actually impacted me a lot is defcon, and in that game you kill millions of people in a very desensitized way but it's still a pretty violent concept. there's something really interesting to that game even if it made me feel sick and so i don't like the idea of not being able to try it out for myself

that one's on steam, i really had an unpleasant time with it, but i'm glad i got to try it

Winter soon approaches us friends. May we all get the games we are looking for at a dumb price and hopefully we get around to playing them too.

What's everybody looking to get?

Few gifts to friends and maybe the Marvellous Miss Take if I get extra money from somewhere.

I paid $13 and some change for Subnautica, but it's the regular edition and there's no pricing for it yet, however the SE is $35 and currently exclusive to the official site, although the game is hitting Early Access tomorrow (I'm in the process of making a thread).

Edit: And now I have to start again because Windows decided to soil itself.

My new router is apparently en route from a city ~an hour away, but that was 2.5 hours ago and it's now 4pm so I have my doubts that it'll be dropped off today.

If delivery service works by regions it is not uncommon to take them some time until they reach you. When they are done with one region they will move to another. Just be patient :D

My post code falls within the metro spectrum, so the router should arrive, but this would hardly be the first time that a driver has decided to leave a package at a nearby depot overnight.

we usually get the 'Out for Delivery' message. That's when you know for sure. Unless the dude is over stressed because holidays.

So yesterday I mentioned how I'd made a little bid calculator (at this point it just calculates "reasonable" bids) in Google docs, but the sharing options are so dumb that I can't open it up to individual use. If Person A edits something, it edits for B-Z as well.

Anyways, I realized I can mess with the HTML on tumblr, so I made a private blog (I'm hoping that SteamGAF will be considerate) and embedded it there. If you wanna check it out the password is (quote to reveal).

Disclaimer: I have very basic knowledge of spreadsheeting and HTML/programming/scripting/etc. It's a very rudimentary tool, don't expect anything particularly fancy. I'm sure there are people here that could do waaaay better. I'm just making it available to those that might want to use it. I got sick of pulling out my phone to do exact calculations, can't be bothered to do it in my head. Ping me if you have questions or need any help.
