AC Unity Patch 4 is now rolling out

They need to patch out the AC Initiates and Companion App chests before I even sniff this game. Nice to see the performance is more stable, I guess.

How's the performance on Xbox One? I can pick up the game for $24 on Xbox One, just want to make sure the performance is as improved as the PS4 version.

I believe if they could just flip a switch they would ...

They probably could.

If the PS4 is "maxed out" running the game at the exact same resolution and settings as the Bone version, then what kind of wizard magic is the Bone doing to exceed its own capabilities and match a system with a much more powerful GPU within the same architecture? That's like running the game on a PC with a Radeon 7770 and then getting NO performance benefit after upgrading to a 7850. Considering the resolution scales just fine on PC, I refuse to believe

Ubi already said why they're the same resolution and then proceeded to spew bullshit about the CPUs (resolution has practically no impact on the CPU, fyi) in hopes that people would believe their crap. So unless they cut the shit and be honest with their consumers, they're not getting any money from me. People familiar with the hardware know what's going on. People who aren't just seem to take what they say as fact.

Neither of those things impact the game at all, unless getting an outfit is the most important part of the game for you.

Pretty much. Correct me if I am wrong but resolution is pretty much GPU dependent and not CPU, correct? I've noticed games that tax my CPU heavily don't really suffer any framerate hit when I bump up the resolution.

Can they please put this shit on the disc like it should have been at launch? I have a bandwidth cap and I do not want to download a 6GB patch if I buy this game. Fuck that.

It still amazes me that Microsoft considers their consumers too dumb to upgrade the internal hard drive. :/

I find adding an external hard drive is generally better than replacing the entire drive because you don't have to spend time migrating data.

Migrating 500GB worth of data takes awhile. Plugging in a hard drive takes a few seconds.

Correct, which is why everyone knows this parity bullshit is exactly that, bullshit.
I really think this game would look so much better if it didn't look like Arno had vaseline smeared on his face.

If the game is CPU bound then even a GTX 980 wouldn't move the performance any further than it already is.

For future reference, in games that are CPU bound the Xbox One and PS4 will perform similarly, if that bothers you it's going to be a long generation for you.

What about playing the game without internet connection? does it make it run even better with this patch? there was that whole thing that you could run a stable game without internet connection.

Took a screenshot. Can't work out what they've changed to improve the performance.

You could probably still get a higher res in that case though. Even with the same CPU upgrading my GPU allowed higher resolutions at the same framerate.

Correct. Ubi trying to say that they run at the same resolution because of the CPUs being the same just insults the intelligence of their potential customers. I'd be less insulted if they were just honest and stuck with "we're making them the same so one version doesn't an advantage over the other and that's that."

I'm talking about resolution, not framerate. I realize that the framerate in this game is bound by the CPU. Resolution, however, is not.

You should do some research on how CPUs and GPUs work. There are plenty of PS4/X1 games that are CPU bound where the PS4 still has a resolution advantage.

That'd be amazing if they did that instead of having these stupid companion app chests.
The social chests from Black Flag were ok.
What are your thoughts on chemtrails?
What are yours? I'm curious now.
Sound is still fucked though. Everything sounds muffled.
Ugh that's not reassuring at all.

As far as I'm concerned, this game is already wasted. This is too little, too late. But I'll settle for something that finally fixes the horrible SLI stuttering on PC and makes the game playable. I haven't been able to get past the tutorial since launch because of how bad it is.

Not necessarily bullshit.

Could be that Ubisoft is using gpu compute to make up for lack of cpu power on ps4 version

Yes, definitely smoother. Some areas surprisingly good on performance eg. 'The Execution' where probably the most NPCs in the game are at one time, performs better than when outisde the Palais and Notre Dame, where it shows the least gains. Unfortunately, the weird pop-in at ridiculous short distances hasn't really been changed, you still get the random clothing changes etc.

No obvious downgrades to my eye, so will be interesting to see some comparisons later.

If you have played past AC games on PS3, it probably performs a little better than those games now. Just don't expect locked 30. Let's just say running around the city, it has been improved from the 20-25 bracket to 25+. Still worst performing game I have for PS4.

Game just seems normal to me. I guess that might be a good thing in this case though. Haven't encountered any major drops or bugs.

I was hoping this would finally get us to 1080p.

Framerate is better but it looks like the pop-in got considerably worse, npcs as well as shadows on buildings.

Can we please stop talking about the PS4's "lack of CPU power"? It's an identical 8 core Jaguar CPU clocked a whopping .15 GHz slower.

Ubisoft still haven't addressed the sound issue me and quite a few others have had since launch and that's the audio is completely muffled and sounds like it being pumped out of some cheapy desktop speakers. I tweeted them about it a while ago and someone replied saying they'll look into it but it's still the same post-patch. I guess it's time to move on to a better game.

Edit: Frame rate tanks in this video. The game really doesn't like it when you combine a crowd and a smoke bomb.

** After watching my own video back it doesn't seem to show the frame rate drops. Could it be something to do with the creation of the video after the capture? Weird. Well, from my experience it definitely went sub 20fps in that scene.

lmao, no. Bone's CPU advantage is tiny. The PS4's GPU advantage is significant. Even if compute were used to make up for the difference (unlikely since it's likely that the AI is what's eating up CPU resources) there would still be plenty of GPU power available for a bump in resolution.
