I'll be the devil's advocate and say that Pikmin 3, while still being a great game, is way less fun and challenging than Pikmin 1/2.

Wow, I can't help but disagree with everything you just said, Mr. Devil's advocate.

By the way, am I just drunk or is that blonde chick laughing nodding and laughing at Japanese that she doesn't even understand?

Doesn't Miyamoto understand English? Does he really need that dude to translate 'Zelda coming out before Star Fox'?

That camera scheme sounds horrible. This better be a FULL game Miyamoto. I don't want to get serious looking at the gamepad. All better be optional.

Star Fox 64 is one of my favorite games of all time. That being said, I didn't care much for the DS offering (Star Fox Command) nor did I like Star Fox Assault that much on the GameCube (just wasn't very good). It's hard to get excited for this new game as we know nearly nothing about it and yet it's suppose to be coming out next year (I'm guessing summer).

My hype is low for this right now as I'm afraid they will continue to output terrible Star Fox games (opinion).

I felt the very same way about ZombiU

Then I played ZombiU

Eh, I still don't think there was anything that couldn't have been done otherwise. Overlays and a view swap button could achieve the same mechanics. Difference would have been you wouldn't have to look back and forth. That's not to say it wasn't neat, just that it doesn't have to be mandatory. I like options, which is something Nintendo has been very on top of with most of their games so far.

So yeah, I'd love to have a Pro Controller or Wiimote/nunchuck option if possible. I don't really see anything in this game being something that absolutely requires the gamepad, but we'll see.

Man, It's really weird. Star Fox games ended right around the time the star wars trilogy closed. I've always joked that the day they made a new Star Fox game is the day they make another Star Wars sequel, so here we are, 8 years later and a new Star Fox and Star Wars movie are being made in the same year.

Wait, really? Wow. I'm only peripherally aware of iJustine, but does she often get big-wig exclusive interviews like this? Especially releasing new information for the first time, from a company like Nintendo?

I know iJustine is a popular streamer, but Nintendo has been sending Miyamoto out to a lot of Youtube personalities lately. He was with the Nerdy Nummies girl yesterday. Seems to be a sort of new PR push to do these press junket with Youtube personalities.

I'm a fan of this.

I bought Zombi U at launch with the console and I really did not like it. The looking at the screen/backpack I thought was a huge gimmick. Sure it created a little bit of tension by you having to glance at the main screen to make sure you wenre't being attacked, but it really felt slow and cumbersome and didn't add that much to the experience.

Also seriously 1 melee weapon the whole game?!? I didn't finish it (got about 1/2 way through) but it was getting very repetitive and boring so I traded it in. No regrets.

I hope Star Fox U doesn't use the gamepad screen as a gimmick and just another way to play the game (e.g different viewpoint), I don't wanna have to fiddle with it during gameplay especially seeing as Starfox is usually a very fast paced game.

-Describes the basic gameplay: Cinematic (3rd person) view on the big screen, cockpit view on the gamepad. You are meant to split between the two while you are playing.
This sounds like the behind closed doors E3 2014 demo.

Hope I'm not forced to use the wii u pad and can play with the pro controller...

I'm pretty sure it'll be playable with a Pro Controller because I'm expecting a basic local versus mode like n64. That's just what I think.

EDIT:

Yeah^^
If this is coming out it this year, it needs its official "reveal" trailer.
Heck, so does Zelda.

You don't have any idea how it will function. Calm down.

Mind you, I won't completely write the game off, and I'm attacking from a slightly different angle, but I somewhat agree for different reasons. I have no problems with the GamePad myself, but I'm really leery about the prospect of needing two screens. It means we lose off-TV play as an option, and I'm always skeptical that the tradeoff for that results in something that is mechanically necessary.

So amiibos will unlock arwing skins then.

And the part about his hands hurting from playing the game does not in any way sound like something positive.

All I want is them to bring back Star Fox Assaults multiplayer and make it online. That'll be enough for me.

I dont think he means it literally, I think he meant that he's played it so much that his hands hurt cause its like he hasnt taken a break.

And then you were like "this could totally work with the Pro Controller."

Eh, I still don't think there was anything that couldn't have been done otherwise. Overlays and a view swap button could achieve the same mechanics. It totally could have but it's a lot cooler to do with the gamepad and I enjoy a nice HUDless screen with real time access to a map and inventory.

I have high hopes for this game.

I think the only disaster that Miyamoto has worked on directly (correct me if I'm wrong) was Wii Music.

A character based video game where he has been developing himself has rarely ever been bad.

According to wikipedia he didnt even work on it at all, even though he talked about it at e3. (His track record is insane, if you look at nintendo games developed)

Im so scared the game that can save the star fox series isnt being taken seriously...

Ive waited 17 long years for a true sequel to star fox, its been a long sad wait.. (I love adventures but thats a zelda game.)

I think I understand what you mean. Aircraft and now automotive industry have been developing HUDs precisely to avoid us the chore of switching between looking outside and at a cockpit.

On the other hand it would be cool if they gave us a nice interface to the ship systems, radar info, that isn't activated by the usual supernerdy combo of gamepad buttons.
But that would mean the new Star Fox is actually a space sim game rather than the joyous action fest I hope it will be.

Star Fox threads are some of the worse discussions about an upcoming game, with all the preemptive bitching and negativity. There are some Star Fox fans that practically don't want a new Star Fox game. They wan't some kind of a remaster and Miyamoto not part of it.

But the point is that Star Fox U exists solely because it's Miyamoto's bet on Gamepad usage, not because it's some big seller franchise. Otherwise Star Fox would practically be a dead franchise. I think they can afford to experiment with Star Fox because there is nothing to lose practically.

On the other hand, there is no bad 1st party game on Wii U, so your negativity is unwarranted.

More than anything, it's just a good standard for the interpreter. Stopping and starting (because you think they can understand) can confuse one or both of the people you're interpreting for. In my experience, people who are interpreted regularly, like Miyamoto, just get used to waiting for the interpreter, even if they're pretty sure they understood what was said, anyway.

That's not true at all. We knew from the beginning EAD was developing the game. However, Miyamoto mentioned he was going to need help finishing the game from a production standpoint most likely, so you may see some additional work forces in the credits. But this is a standard industry practice. I mean no one freaks out that BeeTribe and Avant "co-developed" Bayonetta 1 and 2.
I guess that's my misunderstanding? I didn't know it had been confirmed as an EAD game. Actually, I still don't think that's known for sure. Are there interviews that I've missed?

I had thought this was all still firmly in the realm of speculation. Maybe I'm wrong.

Even with my limited Japanese I got the impression that he forgot what games were coming for 3DS next year. He had to reminded about Codename Steam and Majora's Mask. Haha.
My take on that was that he had misinterpreted the question. He seemed to be answering something like "What are the best games for the 3DS?". Bill let him finish his answer and then clarified what her original question had been.

I don't get all the Amiibo bullshit. Whatever. Star Fox sounds interesting. The one on SNES and the one on 64 were great. Hopefully they can make something equally cool.

I was sitting last night playing nsmbu after playing shovel knight, and wondering why the hell nintendo don't properly utilise their own gamepad (which I only consider to have entry-level functionality in Shovel Knight, but still)

So I was wondering why wii u games don't have (as standard) the option to enable/disable off-tv play, easily/simply turn off the gamepad, and at the very least have inventory/options available on the gamepad in games where it otherwise simply mirrors the tv display.

If it's not playable with a Pro Controller I'm out.

no thank you.

This sounds terrible...I don't like switching between the screens...

Same here hurts my neck

He's going to ruin it with shitty gimmicks and dumb controls.

Why do people not want them to try things with the gamepad?! Will this still stand even if they make it optional?

As a side note: I've not properly played luigis haunted mansion multiplayer, or zombiu multiplayer, but the wii u needs this stuff! You have an unique controller, now innovate with it!

In my opinion, asymmetric gameplay is ripe for BIG things. Hidden in plain sight was one of the best xbla games, and it didn't even get to incorporate a cool controller!

I really, really, really hope you can at least switch views between 3rd person from TV and First person at gamepad. I solely play with off TV as my TV broke, and I can't stand First person starfox. But Starfox ( using third person camera) is my fave Nintendo franchise.

Please Miyamoto. Allow to switch screens.

Not even one screenshot and video and we're already getting reactions like this. lol

He said in the recent WiiU thread that was meant to" counterbalance the positivity" that he sold his WiiU and has literally not a single regret.

So I guess he is kinda out by default.
