Killzone Shadow Fall MP: 1 Year later

When Killzone Shadow Fall launched last year, it was touted as a shallow experience not worth play other than to show off the PS4. This was a factually accurate statement as the game's mechanics just weren't explained properly by the Developers. The lack of a proper tutorial and a broken, unbalanced MP left many frustrated to the point of abandoning the game as quickly as possible. After many patches to the game, I can safely recommend the game to others, MP being the star of the show. I can't list all of the changes but what I can say is the game has more intimate shooting encounters and less bots interfering to them. Explosives are kept to a minimum and the actual shooting feels "beefier". All changes that were needed to enhance the experience. Here's a clip of a very basic MP match and tell me what you think:

I've played it a lot and still think it's awesome. I only wish they downgraded the MP graphics more so it would run at a solid 60fps.

I thought I'd heard it was pretty barren.

I bought the game at launch, but didn't keep it that long. The multiplayer was okay, but never hooked me.

Game looks phenomenal and the framerate dips are annoying at first but I learned to live with it.

Just last week i unlocked all the trophies for the online portion. A few times I would get put into small games but that would only last for a bit. Otherwise no issues and almost always played in 24 player matches.

can't really pick out any differences in that video from what i played. a year ago

thought it was fun when i played with with gaffers at launch. frustrating when playing with randoms as no one would place spawn beacons. if you went up against a highly coordinated team you'd be spawn trapped to death

visuals didn't bother me as much as the frame rate. should have capped it at 30 to maintain IQ if they couldn't hit 60 or dropped the graphics to hit 60. none of this pseudo 1080p blurry stuff.

i'd try it again if they put out the mp free on ps+ tho

I hope that is on the agenda cause none of what you described happens anymore. The video was to show coordination in a random match.

I just got the game and have not touched the multiplayer yet, but it was nice to see all of the free map packs. Looking forward to checking it out after I finish the campaign, which I am having fun with.

I actually picked up Killzone at launch and loved the MP. Then they buffed the bots to the point infantry became pointless and more maintenance crew than fighters. I sold it off right after that. Glad it's gotten some solid post-launch support and is a better place now. I might give it another shot to check out the changes.

That video makes it look pretty wild, I like that style of frenetic multiplayer.

Seems like the support Guerilla's given for this game has been pretty good too.

Might pick it up at some point.

It's really good fun and no strings attached...like a tested hooker.

Played the shit out of this for a few months after launch, but, there was a time when the lag was absolutely unbearable. Everyone was complaining about it, and, despite GG's admirable efforts to support the hell out of the game, the lag fix came too late for a lot of us.

I'll pop it on every once in a while, though. Haven't tried the new valor system yet.

I was thinking of making this thread too, I came back to playing mp of kzsf yesterday and damn the mp has changed alot that its feels like a different game I played like a year ago and its REALLY GOOD ! That blur it originally had is gone and it feels like it runs more smoother and faster. The whole currency thing is also a nice addition !

Edit : there's a nice amount of people still playing the mp, I easily got into a game.

I still think the chances of the MP getting on PS Plus is really high. Still waiting for that after I traded in my copy.

Awesome multiplayer and absolutely phenominal support from GG.

This is how it should be done.

I really enjoyed the gameplay of it when I tried it at a friends house, and was really excited for it after being a fan of Killzone 3's MP.

I just can't play a console competitive shooter without aim assist on consoles. It kills the whole thing for me.

there were a few hundred players when i played last feburary, by now it would be much worse. can you tell us how easy its to find games?

Just played my first MP match after stopping cold turkey when Destiny launched in September. The new Valor gain popups are annoying and wish I could disable them, not sure what they tweaked but game seems to dip/hitch a lot more than it used to which is annoying although that could be just that particular match connection being sub par. I used to play this all the time before Destiny and really enjoyed it, easily the best looking MP on the system and the gameplay is great.

Did they actually adress the retroprojection with a different solution? The image quality does seem a bit different, although if that is what is causing the new fps dips I would prefer the way it was before as the blurriness never really bothered me.

The Valor system has popups similar to Destiny so not sure why it bothers you. And on a different note, some of the new maps has extra animation to them, which may have caused the hitches.

Not really. It's a shame, since I really enjoyed it. Playing with KillzoneGAF last year was a ton of fun.

There is a good amount of people playing the game. It's not COD, BF or Destiny's numbers but it's a loyal slice,

Evertime I try and jump on for some online action it's as dead as a dead dingos donger

Seemed to of peaked off round tlou release and never came back

I just realized that the only good game we got from Guerrilla was Killzone2.

I'm going to be that guy and say that Guerrilla made the 2nd best multiplayer game for consoles last gen. And hands down the best Playstation multiplayer game ever.
How he hell do you go from that to mediocre?

Oh what could have been. I can honestly say that I would own a ps4 at launch if Killzone 3 and SF were just Killzone 2.5

Most fun I've had playing an MP game since Socom. It's slow pace was perfect for me. I always felt like I was contributing, and more importantly having fun.

I stopped playing shortly after the co-op dlc launched. By then the community was on life support. It's a shame, because the MP portion of the game was well crafted and balanced.

I have been playing the MP again after I stopped after three months of playing almost Daily. I find Warzone way more interesting than Destiny's various modes and BF4. Teamwork and tactics are needed to win. Sadly random teams often lack both and it can end up in a slaughter.

Still, my favourute pvp action on PS4

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Definitely play Killzone Mercenary on Vita. Far closer to those K2 feels than the crap that has followed. I am an over the top lover of Killzone 2, Killzone 3 began to lose me with the CODification, and then Shadowfall was just one great big shit. Franchise fell far. Only Cambridge know how to make a good one now it seems.
