How's the 3DS version of Starfox 64?

With all the Starfox talk due to the new installment for Wii U in development, I've been hankering to replay 64 version, which I still own.

Yet, I also remember the 3DS got a remake early in its life and the looking at videos the graphics seem much improved, so might as well go with the remake.

It is worth buying for fans of the original?

It's really good. No additional content that I know, maybe something MP. The graphics are great, the 3D is good if you care about that, and the new control options are good.

It's great, the only real quibbles are the voice acting isn't quite as enjoyably cheesy as the original and some of the remixed music falls short as well.
Otherwise its better where it ultimately counts, not having to do an entire run in one sitting as well as a mission select are small but very much appreciated details,it looks great and if you're into optional gyro controls at all (you monster!) then they've got you covered on the gimmick front as well.

It's the only version of Star Fox 64 anyone should be playing these days. Without a doubt the definitive way to play this classic. Very nice visual makeover.

Die hard fans might be a little turned off due to the new voice recordings, which although done by the same actors some delivery is noticeably different. Still after you go a few times you'll get used to them, and you'll go over it a lot of times because it's just as good as it ever was wrapped in a shiny new package.

It's a really good remake. I will warn you that prices for it are kinda high right now because it's out of print and because it's the Christmas season right now. The lowest price I see it now is for around $28 used at GameStop. Amazon has them starting at $35 used.

Not all of the same voice actors returned for the remake.

It's great. If only I could play it on Wii U with a Pro controller, it would be perfect.

I remember many people shit on this and did not buy it, because it had no online multiplayer. LOL Who cares! Multiplayer still sucks!

Fantastic. By far the definitive version. It's beautiful as well. When it first came out, it blew my mind as to how good it looked on 3DS.

I guess i am the only one in this thread who really loves the MP of Starfox64 3ds. Have gotten so many laughs out of it the camera add on makes it even more funny. Also great that it has download play so you only need 1 card to play. The new weapons are great. Also really love the SP this is still one of my favourites games of all time. The new medals are to hard for me to unlock but its a nice add on for the hardcore fan base i guess.

Old n64 version has better music and voice acting overall, I recommend it way over the 3ds remake. Download it on the Wii eshop

The problem I have is that I'm good at the N64 game and I suck at the 3DS version. Couldn't control my Arwing as good.

Dont listen to this clouded man, 3DS version is better, better framerate, graphics, high quality music. seriously.

But buy the N64 version if you cant find it cheap.

Definitely buy it. I used to play the N64 version on a daily basis back when I was little. Played it recently on 3DS and loved it every bit as much. Was awesome getting to play it on a handheld.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
It's fantastic. I can't wait to play through it on the New 3DS using the gyro controls in 3D mode.

It's a great port. I just couldn't get used to the controls and the small screen.

But yeah, it is the definitive Single Player version. For MP the N64 original wins IMO.

My friend played Star Fox 64 every day for several years when he was growing up. He still prefers the N64 version for one reason: he can mash the A (shoot) button on the N64 controller more readily. There's a lower risk that the N64 controller button will break compared to the original 3DS's buttons breaking. And if they did, it's cheaper to buy a controller than a 3DS.

Other than that, even he agrees the 3DS version is better. (Although I do miss the "Hey Einstein, I'm on your side" line.)

Its definitely the best version of Starfox64. All the original gameplay is intact, controls well, and isn't hampered by the bad framerate of the original. The only thing you would be missing is the rumble feature from the N64 version butI dont think that is really an issue at all. Excellent game and if you are a fan of Starfox you owe it to yourself to pick it up. Now, if only Nintendo would do a 60fps remaster of the original SNES version, low poly count and all.

It's pretty awesome and although the 3D effect is great, it's one of the most straining games in terms of how much it tires my eyesight. I want to try replaying it with the new 3DS though as I've read that it greatly improves the effect and helps diminish strain, like the 3DS XL did to some degree.

the new voice acting misses the charme of the original, but other than that it's the definitive version of the game. If you can find it for cheap it's a must buy

I could swear the internet had sites which collected any number of reviews and presented the information they had to the masses. For free, even.

Must've been dreaming, I guess...

It's probably the best version of the game but the lack of online is extremely disappointing. That and the voices are a bit different so that might not settle with you properly at first.
