I guess with more than 7 million sales , it would have been pretty stupid from Sony not to push for a sequel.
I personally think that the game was self-sufficient but who am I to judge better than Straley and Druckmann if the story can carry on or not ?

It would be incredibly, ridiculously stupid not to pursue more stories in The Last of Us universe.
The game just made way too much money for any reasonable publisher to ignore.

TLoU has a lot of action and the best part is that its all dynamic and not scripted.

This means the sequel is going to be the peak and genre defining. It'll take the world by storm. But this also means that the final game in the trilogy, whilst received really well in general, would result in a lot of people who are vocal in how much they think it's terrible. I imagine these people will hate the plot of Ellie being a walking ticking infected bomb and she ends up jumping into the ocean to save the world. For some people, the original will remain as their favourite.

PRetty sure he said "their" story was done, as in the two of them together.
Saying that, the idea that they have to focus on Ellie just because she is immune is a bit short sighted. If she is, then it's almost certain others are too.
Saying /that/, I think seeing an older Ellie would be amazing. I really don't know why people are so averse to continuing the story, maybe they're just worried they won't do it justice?
Having finished it recently, I think their story is done not only as a pair but also individually.
Ellie for instance is an amazing character because she grows from being merely a delivery to an awesome badass who copes with the grumpy Joel and is a true survivor. Where do you go from there? Make her a badass adult? Wouldn't really be interesting IMO.

He should have known better than to put in his linked-in account that he was doing stuff on an unannounced game, generally this is considered a bad thing to do and not very professional.
As for the idea that ND is potentially doing a TLOU2, I am happy, loved the first one... certainly don't feel that they have finished the story, will definitely look forward to more

So more like The Empire Strikes Back. A mature Princess Leia, blossoming as the leader of the resistance and coming to terms with her choices. She looks to old friends to overcome adversity, but at what price?

They did a new IP, it came out last year. It's extremely unreasonable to expect them to pump out new IP after new IP back to back.

I really wish ND was looking into a brand-new franchise, but TLoU has a rich enough universe for more storylines.

Last Night i had a dream where Neil Druckmann told me Story of the sequel. (sry for english )
10 Years have passed since the Last of Us. Joel and Ellie joined the camp of Tommy and over the years a big town was build.
Joel is old and sick. He needs medicine and machines for the operation.
So Ellie and Tommy are on the way to the local hospital. But the predictable happens.....A Big Group of Bandits are ambushing them, a fight starts they get captured.
The Leader of the Bandits Joffrey takes out his sword and headed tommy
Ellie doesnt get killed, but taken as a captive & as a toy for the man.
The camp of the bandits is far away in a desert area...Many slaves and prisoners are kept there. Mainly girls and children. To enjoy themselves, the bandits are even organizing the so called Hunger Games.
But Ellie wins the 36.Hunger Games and becomes the new face of the revolution. Together with the other captives she is burning down the Camp of Bandits and killing them off.
Now in Freedoom Ellie and her Revolution group are striping trough the country on the way back to Joel.
On the way they meet other People who join them. Some of them friends others traitors. One of them is a big black Guy who is calling himself Tyreese....But we all know its Barret from FF7. During the Journey a man in a black cape is following them, screaming NO NO NO NO. Always falling down the cliffs and killing dozens of people on his way
Finally they reach the camp.....But its destroyed. The Goverments Soliders attacked the town and burned it down..
Ellie in tears is desperately searching for Joel. Some say he got captured by the goverment others say he is busy with another game.
At the End of the Game the survivor and Ellies Revolution Group are joining together...With only one last Goal.
TO Bring down the GOVERMENT!!!!!! And the PATRIOTS

I don't think it means much, probably almost every company is working in unannounced projects, whether if they are going to be announced or not is another story.

If they actually make a sequel the think its right.
The Last Of Us was so good because of its characters and the relationship and how it developed. The whole thing had a theme to it. The infected and the world around them was just noise, the thing TLoU was built around was Joel and Ellie and their relationship and how it developed.
I don't think you can just tack on some more story.
NaughtyDog has to find a new theme and a new way to tell a story around it and then connect it to the world of TLoU and then add some gameplay.
Its going to be very hard and I don't think it can be done with Joel and Ellie, but I trust NaughtyDog to only do a sequel if they have an idea worthy of beeing a sequel to one of the best games of all time.

I want it. I absolutely love everything about TLOU and want more stories in that universe.
They probably are doing both. UC4 releases in less than a year keep in mind.

The people who want new characters are going to be disappointed. Last of Us 2 is so clearly going to be staring Ellie who in my opinion is going to be positioned as the female game character moving forward

I'll be ok with almost anything as long as the game doesn't start with flashforwards of Joel being killed, then having to play the rest of the game knowing Joel is a goner.
