Two months ago Microsoft-owned developer Rare put out a hiring ad that hinted that their next game would run on Unreal Engine or a similar engine, and it looks like they're planning to get their money's worth out of the game engine. According to a new ad, Rare is looking for people to "push the limits of what is capable in Unreal" and "work with the discipline lead to deliver content in [Unreal Engine 4]." We know very little about the game at this point, but it was recently shown to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who called it "uniquely Rare." What do you hope to see?

Kameo 2! Banjo, sans cars!

Neither will happen :(

As much as I'd love a new, quirky platformer from Rare, they just don't sell. Phil Spencer would need to be madly wanting audience approval to let them make one. I'm curious what they do though. I'm thinking a light-RPG

I don't really see Rare, at least the Rare of today, as cutting edge tech developers, so I can't really see the game "pushing UE4's limits". A PBR Viva Pinata would look mighty good though, I must say.

It's not that infeasible, when you stop and think about it. The negative word of mouth from the reveal/E3 is still hurting the 'bone, even now. Why do you think he's bringing back stuff like Phantom Dust? It's not because he's counting on those 70,000 cult sales.

MS is actually going allow Rare to make a new game? Something tells me its going to get scraped like most of their other games.

I assume they meant "push the limits of X1". How do you push the limit of the engine on a hardware that can't run the engine at its full potential?!

There is no one left at rare to make a good game sadly it seems. Decline already set in during the late n64 days.

Is this the first time Rare has used an external engine (other than their pre-DKC stuff)? Seems like MS is going to be a strong supporter of Unreal Engine 4.

I'm not getting my hopes up but it'd be nice if this was a Banjo, Conker or Perfect Dark sequel.

If you want a glimpse of what Rare could do, here's fanart of Banjo's house remade in UE4

Edit: It's a work in progress too, so it can look even better.

As much as I want something awesome to come out of the current crew at Rare, I'm also being cautious to keep my expectations in check.

Dat textbook Rare style in UE4...

Why are people saying conker? Didn't all the games sell poorly.

Yes but that was Nintendo's fault, not the games.

1. It should've been ported to Gamecube as a launch killer app

2. Nintendo wanted nothing to do with the game because of it's crass nature. They didn't even advertise

Rare threads continue being honeypots for my ignore list, dear lord...

I'm really eager to see what both Rare and possible other studios working on their IP have on their plates, and I really hope that we won't have to wait until E3 for any revelations.

It doesn't bode well when the main drive of this project is to milk an engine.
Milk an engine? Really? What does that even mean? What's the problem exactly with using what's widely known as a great tool for game development?? How is that milking??
