So....when are we guessing n3DS is coming to NA/EU?

I actually don't like how long we have to wait for it. Still find it weird that we are getting it next year instead of releasing it alongside Pokemon. Was supposed to buy an XL this year but decided not to when this was announced. Hoping its February, but its most likely March /April or even later knowing Nintendo, but please release it early ffs.

They probably had lots of stock of the old model.

All this March talk is killing me. It's probably right--if not too optimistic--but goddamn. I can't think of the last time I've wanted to give a company $200 so badly and they weren't interested.

I find it weird it still isn't out yet.
I was totally expecting the announcement of the '4DS' at E3 2015, to release in 2016.

But if they wait to release the new 3ds only in Q1/Q2, that blows up my theory.

How long did we have the DSi till 3ds was announced?

I am holding off on my 3DS backlog to play my Vita backlog... so I hope it to be ready about March.

since MH4U is the best game to showcase the New 3DS, I will like it a lot more on a bundle than majora's..

just why majora's? just for the sake of a software? doesn't make sense since we don't even know what exclusive features it includes

They can fully unveal 4DS (or whatever) to the public at E3 2016 for release nov 2016.
We would hear mumblings and first western dev-kit rumours around jan-feb 2016, sneak peak at GDC. Their own studios and some japanese partners (capcom/level5) might get the first devkits Q3-Q4 2015.

Seems like a normal timing for those things.

Anyways, I expect a nintendo direct within two weeks

The 3DS was announced (to the public) at E3 2010, the DSi came out in April 2009.

I think an early 2016 announcement and a late 2016 release are more likely for the 4DS all things considered.

Pretty much this. I have no clue why Nintendo cant get their shit together and release a damn handheld in a timely fashion. I am ready to put down cash for one, but for as long as they keep jerking willing customers over, not everyone is going to wait forever for them to finally start treating their NA customers like something other than shit.
I was ready and able to buy a 2DS in time for ORAS, but then the n3DS was announced. So I waited, and I waited. Nintendo hasn't been instilling much confidence lately. I may just skip the 3DS generation all together if something doesn't change soon.

So, uh... what is a n3DS?

New 3DS/ New 3DS XL.

.

Has more ram, and a few other improvements that skip my mind.

It will get a few exclusive games, like teh 3DS port of Xenoblade.

Add to this a nearly unshakeable 3D display (no more holding the system rigidly to see it, this to me is the biggest upgrade), a better CPU, and integrated CPP (though personally I hope there continues to be a CPP, as I prefer the ergonomics). It will also feature interchangeable faceplates on the OG sized version.

People who say they are "waiting and waiting" for n3DS should be aware it was well known N3DS would not come to US/EU in 2014 since the announcement on augusts 29h. NoA even said "not this year".

No surprises there.

The 3DS' successor is going to be a HD platform and it's going to need a longer development time for launch than the 3DS did. With the Wii U we saw them announce it over a year before release.

We've already started getting rumours which is what pre-empted the Wii U announcement and GDC is in March. There's a decent chance they announce it this year(I mean 2015) even if it's coming late 2016.

I think the N3DS was always intended to be released before Christmas. They wouldn't have passed that opportunity up if they didn't have to.

Let's see. I'm not convinced yet they won't go 480p.

A possible announcement for the next handheld in 2015 is possible, but it wouldn't benefit them imo.

The screen resolution doesn't mean much. 3DS is only 240P but it's games are on the level of PS2/GCN/Wii. The successor will near/on the level of HD consoles.

There's a chance they would be silly to give third parties less than a year for that class of game but no chance at all they give internal teams just a year to turn around that class of game.

EDIT: It might negatively affect 3DS sales(which are on the down slope anyway) but it's more important to ensure developer's are onboard early to make the device a success.

I don't think we actually disagree - but a public, E3 level announcement in 2015 isn't something that seems likely (which was in Notor!ousG's post i was replying to).
Internally and for devs my timing might be a bit off indeed, and it might be Q2-Q3 2015 instead of Q4. Also devs can already start once they know what level of hardware they could +/- expect (ie, what ARM chip, ram, gpu & clockspeeds they should target). The technology itself is mature enough.

Please release before GDC, please release before GDC, please release before GDC.

So I can buy one while I'm there.

I'm not sure E3 will be the venue but I think the fact that developers will already be working on it will force their hand. The Wii U was likely announced because we were already hearing details about it.

A public announcement would also benefit indie developers who Nintendo are very conscious about supporting nowadays.

And its still pretty baffling and stupid on their end.

Fans want to give them money.......nah fuck 'em.

Selling through stock is not a valid reason to withhold a system. More than one system can exist. By that logic, might as well never release a system as old stock might remain.

Lots of stock that retailers will want to discount because the new models completely outclass them and will be the same or very similar in price point. Retailers will want reimbursement to make up for some of that lost profit. Nintendo probably doesn't want to eat all of that cost, but they also don't want to piss off the retailers.

I want the n3DS yesterday, but that doesn't make me immune to logic lol.

If resolution doesn't mean much then why compromise battery life by having them run in HD? 3DS battery life is short enough as it is.

See I agree it needs differentiating software at launch. The faithful, myself included, will be buying it, just to have a higher quality 3DS. But without anything differentiating they won't get that sustained boost they need.

And the problem is nothings been announced for it but Xenoblade which isn't coming out soon.

And I don't really see a game that benefits from the feature of a second analog "stick" like Smash Bros did. It was the perfect game to launch alongside the new 3ds and it's out now.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate uses the N3DS features just like Smash Bros and Aonuma implied Majora's Mask would too.

I think it's likely Codename: STEAM uses the second analog as well.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Same time as Majora's Mask. Also expect Majora branded amiibo too.

I don't feel regret getting a 3ds and having one announce since it's been a while but it's hard for me to justify the purchase unless we get some n3DS exclusive.

It'll probably be around PSVita specs going by how the upgrades in the handheld space is going.

Can't wait for people to switch to this and find out their Animal Crossing and Pokemon saves are useless because they're bound to the SD card.

I'd like February. Most here seem to think March. MH4 is arriving when?

Expected Q1, placeholder date is March 31st because of that. Actual release date is still unannounced, though there are some rumors around February 20th. Really hoping that, whenever it is, MH4U and n3DS releases are close together lol.

Wouldn't the System Transfer feature take care of this? I swear I transferred my digital AC from my original XL to my Zelda XL without swapping SD cards, and my save works just fine. (Using System Transfer)

I'm thinking they'll time it for maximum momentum with MH4U, MM3D, and Xenoblade 3DS. So probably a March-April launch, with one of these games per month for the months to follow.

I need that n3DS + Majora's Mask bundle in my face right now.

I really really hope whatever inevitable MM bundle they release is an XL. OG 3DS hardware size is too small for me nowadays.
