I need that n3DS + Majora's Mask bundle in my face right now.
I actually don't like how long we have to wait for it. Still find it weird that we are getting it next year instead of releasing it alongside Pokemon. Was supposed to buy an XL this year but decided not to when this was announced. Hoping its February, but its most likely March /April or even later knowing Nintendo, but please release it early ffs.
For real. All I know is, it's really about time I picked up a 3DS, so this needs to come out soon.

They can fully unveal 4DS (or whatever) to the public at E3 2016 for release nov 2016.I find it weird it still isn't out yet.
I was totally expecting the announcement of the '4DS' at E3 2015, to release in 2016.

But if they wait to release the new 3ds only in Q1/Q2, that blows up my theory.
How long did we have the DSi till 3ds was announced?
I was ready and able to buy a 2DS in time for ORAS, but then the n3DS was announced. So I waited, and I waited. Nintendo hasn't been instilling much confidence lately. I may just skip the 3DS generation all together if something doesn't change soon.Pretty much this. I have no clue why Nintendo cant get their shit together and release a damn handheld in a timely fashion. I am ready to put down cash for one, but for as long as they keep jerking willing customers over, not everyone is going to wait forever for them to finally start treating their NA customers like something other than shit.
So, uh... what is a n3DS?

Add to this a nearly unshakeable 3D display (no more holding the system rigidly to see it, this to me is the biggest upgrade), a better CPU, and integrated CPP (though personally I hope there continues to be a CPP, as I prefer the ergonomics). It will also feature interchangeable faceplates on the OG sized version.New 3DS/ New 3DS XL.
.
Has more ram, and a few other improvements that skip my mind.
It will get a few exclusive games, like teh 3DS port of Xenoblade.

We would hear mumblings and first western dev-kit rumours around jan-feb 2016, sneak peak at GDC. Their own studios and some japanese partners (capcom/level5) might get the first devkits Q3-Q4 2015.
Seems like a normal timing for those things.
Anyways, I expect a nintendo direct within two weeks
The 3DS was announced (to the public) at E3 2010, the DSi came out in April 2009.
I think an early 2016 announcement and a late 2016 release are more likely for the 4DS all things considered.
Let's see. I'm not convinced yet they won't go 480p.The 3DS' successor is going to be a HD platform

A possible announcement for the next handheld in 2015 is possible, but it wouldn't benefit them imo.
Sooner than most people think
I don't think we actually disagree - but a public, E3 level announcement in 2015 isn't something that seems likely (which was in Notor!ousG's post i was replying to).
Internally and for devs my timing might be a bit off indeed, and it might be Q2-Q3 2015 instead of Q4. Also devs can already start once they know what level of hardware they could +/- expect (ie, what ARM chip, ram, gpu & clockspeeds they should target). The technology itself is mature enough.
People who say they are "waiting and waiting" for n3DS should be aware it was well known N3DS would not come to US/EU in 2014 since the announcement on augusts 29h. NoA even said "not this year".
No surprises there.
And its still pretty baffling and stupid on their end.
Fans want to give them money.......nah fuck 'em.
Selling through stock is not a valid reason to withhold a system. More than one system can exist. By that logic, might as well never release a system as old stock might remain.
The screen resolution doesn't mean much. 3DS is only 240P but it's games are on the level of PS2/GCN/Wii. The successor will near/on the level of HD consoles.
If resolution doesn't mean much then why compromise battery life by having them run in HD? 3DS battery life is short enough as it is.
See I agree it needs differentiating software at launch. The faithful, myself included, will be buying it, just to have a higher quality 3DS. But without anything differentiating they won't get that sustained boost they need.
And the problem is nothings been announced for it but Xenoblade which isn't coming out soon.
And I don't really see a game that benefits from the feature of a second analog "stick" like Smash Bros did. It was the perfect game to launch alongside the new 3ds and it's out now.

I'd like February. Most here seem to think March. MH4 is arriving when?
Can't wait for people to switch to this and find out their Animal Crossing and Pokemon saves are useless because they're bound to the SD card.
Does N3DS not take SD cards? I don't understand what the problem would be.
It'll probably be around PSVita specs going by how the upgrades in the handheld space is going.

They use Micro now, which won't be an issue if you copy the contents of the card to a PC first, but that might be a bit beyond the younger crowd.

No problem. You can transfer your data and they have various options to do so.Can't wait for people to switch to this and find out their Animal Crossing and Pokemon saves are useless because they're bound to the SD card.
