Best Grand Theft Auto Soundtrack?

Out of the GTAs I've played (III-V) I can say without a doubt that Vice City has the best soundtrack out of the games.

Shit, every time I hear a song from the soundtrack I get all nostalgic. I haven't played this game in years.

GTA IV's had to be the worst I played. I can't remember a single track from it and V was only slightly better because of the throwback station.

IV.

Vice City is the epitome of fish in a barrel. The music was so easily defined in that era's culture that it was impossible to screw it up. IV was way more impressive of a soundtrack.

Im sorry we all have our own opinions but what was good about IV soundtrack?
Hahaha

I mean the hiphop station was shit, the only good station was electrochoc.

I actually liked IVs soundtrack the most, probably a little eastcoast bias but green lantern is one of my favorite DJ's and allot of my favorite rap artist where on the soundtrack. I also really liked the reggae station and Movados track.

It's absolutely Vice City. Sometimes I just put on a radio station playlist from Vice City and it takes me right back.

that puzzling face
Are we counting the radio DJs and talk show channels as part of the soundtrack?

Vice City regardless.

This is always going to come down to subjectivity. I just found IV's soundtrack set a better and more realized tone. It was a true melting pot of genres.

I bought the Vice City OST boxset when I was a little kid, and that was the only school I listened to in middle school, and I'm very okay with it.

But every GTA has gotten me into a new type of music or artist.

GTA3: Scarface soundtrack
Vice City: 80's music
GTA SA: 90's Rap
GTAIV: nothing stands out
GTAV: Radio Mirror Park was amazing and got me into alot of those artists.

But nothing beats Vice City.

Yeesh OP, what year where you born? sounds like your just love it for the nostalgia.

Anyways San Andreas for me which covers alot of genres over alot of years.

San Andreas, definitely:

Billy Idol - White Wedding
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird
Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name
Ozzy Ozbourne - Hellraiser
Guns N' Roses - Welcome To The Jungle
Danzig - Mother
Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus
Slick Rick - Children's Story
Public Enemy - Rebel Without A Pause
Kool G - Road To The Riches
Big Daddy Kane - Warm It Up Kane
Toto - Hold The Line
Dr Dre - Nuthin' But A G Thang
Dr Dre - F**k Wit Dre Day
Cypress Hill - How I Could Just Kill A Man
NWA - Express Yourself
Ice Cube - It Was A Good Day
Ice Cube - Check Yo Self

Dogfighting with the military while 'Hellraiser' plays. <3

I think Vice City introduced me to numerous songs that I still listen to today. ELO - Four Little Diamonds, Aneka - Japanese Boy & Rod Stewart - Young Turks. Still, GTAV does have Bobby Brown - On Our Own, PSB - West End Girls and the Soulwax station, so it's a toss up between that and Vice City. Probably Vice City, being an 80s child.

first thing I did when I bought GTA V on the PS4 was listen to the GTA IV soundtrack. I can listen to IVs soundtrack forever, I absolutely love it. I got a nickname for all my guns, a desert eagle that I call big pun, a 2 shot that I call tupac and something else lol. Didn't really like GTA IV the game at all but really liked TLAD and TBOGT.

The Journey was the best music station in the whole series, except for Vice City's V-Rock. I could listen to it for days and I probably did, considering I turned it on basically every time I got in the car. The only downside is that they haven't filled all of the BD on my PS3 with even more Ambient.
Fantastic stuff.

Agreed.

And you're completely right, for Rockstar to fuck up a soundtrack to a game that satirizes and lampoons 80's culture and pop culture, they would have to fuck up hard.

Can we look at the flip side of Vice City's soundtrack and realise that as good as it was digging into every corner of 80's huge chorus nostalgia it was effectively a daggy buy-off-tv-shopping-network 80's compilation.

The best and most impressive soundtrack is easily GTA V, especially now with next gen additions. To me it's probably the best collection of licenced songs in any video game ever.

semen stains the mountaintops
Vice City > San Andreas > IV > V > III

They've gotten progressively worse since Vice City. I only liked about 4-ish songs in all of V.

I also agree with this, tenfold.

Vice City's soundtrack gets old as fuck if you replay the game a lot, something that can't be said for other GTAs except maybe GTA III.

Will you be able to create your own radio stations in V on PC?
.. if not officially, but with mods? How likely is that?
Independence FM will almost undoubtedly be in since it's been in every PC btw.

OT: San Andreas is the best imo, it had the most diverse of the PS2 era soundtracks

I don't know what to say to people that don't like GTA V's soundtrack, there is a ton of variety between the genres of music and what songs are featured on each radio station. I can usually find 4-5 tracks on each station that I really enjoy, except for the Latino and reggae stations.
