Best Grand Theft Auto Soundtrack?

Probably a degree of bias because I am a child of the 80s, but for me it's Vice City by far. Driving around to stuff like Blondie, Michael Jackson and Phil Collins is pretty much incomparable. I didn't really care for the music in IV or V, and San Andreas was a bit too heavy on the hip hop stuff for my tastes.

I love GTA III's as well, though it was obviously much smaller in scope. But more memorable than the recent games.

Add another vote for Vice City. I just found my Flash FM Mix CD yesterday. Brought me right back to 2002, palm trees and a Hawaiian shirt.

IV.

Vice City is the epitome of fish in a barrel. The music was so easily defined in that era's culture that it was impossible to screw it up. IV was way more impressive of a soundtrack.

I agree 100%. VC and SA are the best in terms of stonewall classics, but I find the modern soundtracks in IV and V a much more impressive achievement, so they get my vote. Plus they get me discovering a lot more new music, whereas VC and SA are more nostalgia trips, with a sprinkling of tracks I haven't heard before.

Easily Vice City for me.

I also think GTA V is the best game in the series (though VC is my favorite), but it has the worst soundtrack by far (and I'm including the top down ones too).

GTA V for me. It's probably the only soundtrack out of the series that I bought.

Honorable mentioning: GTA Vice City and San Andreas

Vice City. The answer is so obvious I don't need to explain it.

I'm an 80's child

I'm hoping they do another historic GTA. The 70's would be great for a boogie nights style story.

Twisted Sister - "I Wanna Rock"
Mötley Crüe - "Too Young to Fall in Love"
Quiet Riot - "Cum on Feel the Noize"
The Cult - "She Sells Sanctuary"
Ozzy Osbourne - "Bark at the Moon"
Love Fist - "Dangerous Bastard"
Iron Maiden - "2 Minutes to Midnight"
Loverboy - "Working for the Weekend"
Alcatrazz - "God Blessed Video"
Tesla - "Cumin' Atcha Live"
Autograph - "Turn Up the Radio"
Megadeth - "Peace Sells"
Anthrax - "Madhouse"
Slayer - "Raining Blood"
Judas Priest - "You've Got Another Thing Comin'"
Love Fist - "Fist Fury"
David Lee Roth - "Yankee Rose"

Vice City wins on that alone .But then you factor in Flash FM and Emotion, Fever 105 and Wave 103? Yeah, easily the best soundtrack.

San Andreas had an awesome soundtrack, also GTA V remastered version is pretty awesome as well with some surprising additions to the selection.

Chiming in for the 200th time: Vice City. The other 3D GTA games are no slouches when it comes to soundtrack (excluding IV), but somehow Vice City manages to stand shoulders above the rest. Without a doubt the most appropriate mix of licensed music and game atmosphere that has ever existed.

The best track from Vice City: Roxy Music - "More Than This"

The movie references are just amazing

djtiesto

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Liberty City Stories. I'm a sucker for 90's dance music and Rise FM in that game delivers.

I want to be a hipster and say II, III or IV, because I don't think they get near the credit they deserve. But the answer's Vice City.

Difficult to just pick one however, i have discovered quite a lot of music i wouldn't usually have listened to, i remember the first time i heard 'America - Horse With No Name' driving through desert on GTA:SA as the sun was setting, i just had to pull over to the side of the road & listen the the rest of the song, you will often see on YT comments on tracks that have been in GTA games "GTA brought me here".

R* are a bit like Quentin Tarantino when it comes to music in films/games, R* also get the music in the trailers spot on & even now when i watch Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony Debut Trailer i get tingles.

I haven't even played Vice City, but I've listened to the Soundtrack and it's brilliant.

However that's the "soundtrack", with all the radio stations.

In terms of "Score" alone or I guess you might call it the 'ambient story tracks', GTAV has that category by a total landslide... No Happy Ending's, Minor Turbulence, We Were Set Up, North Yankton Memories, A Haze of Patriotic Fervor, etc... Absolutely incredible, R* pulled a wonderful move by getting Tangerine Dream on-board.

GTA3, undoubtedly.

- The entirety of MSX FM (Even bought the Moving Shadow 01.1 CD which is basically the entire radio station's song set)
- The entirety of Lips 106
- The entirety of K-Jah
- Slyder - Score from Rise FM ... Yes, that one song

Vice City's was good and all. I loved it for a long while, but GTA 3's dark, gritty atmosphere catered better to me, and the music fit it perfectly.
