Yea, and apparently the skirmish AI is *really* good.

My first skirmish game the Ai 'Beta' build a wall around my already walled base. Stupid Ai i thought i'll just turtle abit since i already have a couple resource nodes. Well turns out the Ai decided to mount turrets of all types across the walls making my base a prison lol.

Impressions so far:

Good
Its a AAA RTS with lots of polish and everything runs smoothly and looks beautiful.
Map Maker
Unique Armies

The Bad
The armies are cool but don't have the allure factor. I have not got feeling to play any army outside of their functionality. The armies lack a sense of empathy if that makes any sense.
Only 3 Armies

Neutral
Combat is not fast paced so may seem slow to those coming from twitch RTS. Units also lack special abilities, this reduces micro and focuses on macro.
8 Skirmish maps

Overall game play feels very early C&C (Think RA) mixed with Earth 2160 but refined to the max.

Can't recommend it yet as i've only been playing a couple hours and there no way to tell if this game has legs or is just a quick nostalgia fix yet.

Well, that's all I needed to hear to be convinced. I've been needing a RTS fix for a while.

This is top of the positives for me. I hate how twitchy Starcraft 2 is. In that game it's better to make poor decisions quickly then to make good decisions at a measured pace which to me is insane for a strategy game.

Agreed x 100. Starcraft 2 is more of a tactics game than a strategy game, if that makes any sense whatsoever.

Playing on Hard since I'm familiar with RTS' in general and the challenge is always great. I keep restarting mission 3 on the first campaign, I get slaughtered everytime. Need to adjust my strategy.

This looks amazing. We never get any RTS anymore unless it's from Blizzard, EA or a remaster from Microsoft. Even then they are too few and far between.

It's like C&C just layback and just build and make big armies i like that.

Played for almost a hour the production value is pretty huge! Love the cinematics and voice acting, game looks very good!

Etherium came out last month and is RTS game

Never came out, they pulled the release date a couple weeks before. People are pissed because the same devs announced the 40k Space Fleet (Battlefleet Gothic) game recently. I have my eye on it but ill wait for reviews as the studios track record is quite bad game wise .

I keep hearing that you absolutely won't have the luxury of doing this in reviews. Does it vary by difficulty? I can't find a straight answer if this game is slower or faster paced than usual.

That's unfortunate and very bad for there reputation.

Playing a RTS on day one with no hiccups what so ever...i am at awe.

It still has that traditional RTS but the game is a bit slower since it isn't like starcraft at all.

For skirmish there are 3 difficulties and several Ai "personalities", so you can play how you want.

Offensive Containment
Strong Defense
Military Power
Economic Power
Balanced

Well, I ended up buying this.

It's the first RTS I've ever played (except for Natural Selection 2, I guess) so I can't offer an informed opinion, but it's super fun to maneuver an enormous army into an enemy base and wreck shit.

Just played a few games against the AI. I'm getting owned by the easy AI. Then again, I'm not really managing my resources too well I often find myself having a big resource surplus. I should spend that more often. Also not used to the buildings and units slowly draining your resource while they build, as opposed to paying one flat fee and they build.

Haven't touched the campaign. I'm enjoying the game, but I'm not used to how it plays right now.

You should look into have units auto-build. It will be a huge time saver, plus you won't have to worry about not spending resources.

So far, so good, though I've already had my first crash.

Music is incredible as expected.

EDIT: Ok second mission and I was playing all "hey it's the second mission of an RTS, this'll be a cakewalk", like 4 minutes in the AI storms my base and absolutely wrecks my face. Normal difficulty. Mmm mmm.

Would this be a good Starcraft alternative? I'm not a fan of RTS games but my friend is, and he loves Starcraft.

Not sure, its more like the first Starcraft than Starcraft2 so depends if he liked that.

How's it handle order queuing, way points, and patrols?

Patrols and Way points are as standard for units and pathfinding has been fine for me.

For the Beta & Humans, each factory produces units, you can queue 3 manually or set auto. Have yet to try Goo but i imagine units can't be auto queued due to their nature of having no base and being formed from blobs of goo, could be wrong though.

Edit: Unit production is also on the hud so no need to click individual factory's, just click what you want and where you need it to be.

Alright second mission down, that was pretty intense for a second mission.

This is definitely a game for fans of RTS games, there's no easing in process or over tutorialization, it throws you into the deep end immediately. Trial by fire.

Love it.

Wait this game is like C&C? Why didn't you say so sooner! Well shit, I'll probably have to buy this sooner than later. The price tag was scaring me off but I've desperately wanted a C&C-style RTS for such a long time now. I'm a macro kind of player.

Kind of weird watching some of the streams and people not understanding what makes a C&C-style game a C&C game (no, it's not Starcraft or a MOBA). Either much fewer people played the good C&C games than I thought or I'm actually getting really old.

Fuck, I'm probably old.

I've finally seen footage of Grey Goo and I've gotta say, wow! The style and presentation of Grey Goo is off the charts. And that gameplay is incredibly imaginative - especially the diversity between the factions. It's all very impressive.

It's too technical for me to ever enjoy, but I hope Grey Goo does well. It's a very cool game.

Human Artillery = Death

Fuck, I'm losing like 40 - 50 units to one artillery piece hiding behind a wall, this is savage. Fuckers have it backed by AA turrets too so my attempts to air strike it are in vain. Oh well, gotta keep throwing meat into the grinder, choke them with the corpses of my dead.

EDIT: Oh and I'm loving the story so far. It's a small tweak to a standard story, but having the humans be the hostile invaders is a refreshing change.

Oh? How so? This game caught my eye today and I may buy it in a few months. I was somewhat dissapointed in Starcraft 2 (mostly in the story, spreading everything over three games doesn't make sense to me) so I'm wondering in what way it is more like Starcraft 1.

High production values, three factions, not so micro management heavy is what I'm seeing so far.

Anyone else getting poor FPS during cutscenes?

Not on my end but you should check Steam and official forums for solutions.

Stupid question but are your drivers up to date? If so are do you have any video software/apps in the background? (Youtube, vimeo, WMP etc)

Hopefully you can get it fixed asap.

Pretty much this, it all rounds up to give a solid game with good pacing and combat much like the first SC. Its not a major difference but if your a RTS vet you will instantly tell the difference and either like it or loath it.

How's it run? If I can run Starcraft 2 can I run this comfortably?

Yes you should have no problems but check the minimum specs before you buy just in case.

Just to be clear, you mean this in contrast to SC2 right? I think I'm not of the majority opinion that SC2 was a let down, so I can't tell whether you mean that contrastingly or simply that both SC1 and 2 share these praises. The main gameplay aspect I disliked from SC2 was I found the game was too focused on mission specific gimmicks that were dropped as soon as the mission was over. The more classic missions in SC1 and Broodwar lent more experimentation I thought with the actually useful expansion of the tech trees into a wide range of tools. In SC2 the tech tree seemed to have some general use things, but mostly felt like a history list of all the tech you had encountered since beginning, and not a toolkit to forge your own path in taking care of the mission at hand.

Looks good but just not something that I can plunk on right now.
Man I really just want a C&C style RTS. I'm talking basically a rip off if it has to.
Loved the simplicity of getting into it both factions had. Also the not future setting is a breath of fresh air in the RTS genre.
