Japanese Nintendo 3DS Import Thread | Brand New 3D, Same Old Region Lock

Has anyone here done the 「通信でぜんぶ移動」 system transfer? :/
It's been like this for about 2 hours now.
edit: It made progress a few seconds after I submitted the post...

Why did you do that?!
The one where it lets you transfer your save data but requires you to redownload your eShop content is the way to go. :(

Anyone know if Nintendo sells the original black or white cover plate? I can't seem to find it in any of the store and the nintendo kisekae site doesn't have it.

I don't want to redownload every single trailer/demo/game (I hoard) individually, that would be an even bigger hassle. I deleted all the big games before doing the transfer, I was able to shave it down to about 7GB. It should be done in about 4 hours I guess :/

I was wondering about that earlier too. I managed to scratch the bottom one while unscrewing it :/

Ok, guys, I'm really considering buying one. However, I don't know japanese very well. I took 3 years in college but don't remember much unfortunately. Would it be worth it to buy a Japanese new 3ds? Are the games still fun if you can't understand them??? Do any games have english subs??

To those who own the LL model: how scratch prone are they? Especially wondering about the black one. Thanks.

Really interested as too if anybody can shed some more light on this also?

I have the N3DS and whilst its gorgeous in essentially every way, coming from the old LL I am starting to miss the larger screen and size (I have big hands).

Gloss really turns me off though, were the New LL matte it would be a no brainer...

So, I think the last day of the new year E-shop sales is tomorrow?

I'm pretty tempted by Link Between Worlds or OoT, but don't especially want another Japanese intensive RPG (currently got enough on my plate with MonHun).

Can anyone convince me otherwise? I guess 3D Land could be good, but I'm worried it's not going to evoke the same feelings as Mario 64 and Galaxy...

Nintendo Japan have them available on their online web store along with all the spare parts for most DS/3DS models but it's a nightmare trying to order from them direct.

It's the last day for the first set, not the entire sale. Also 3D Land is the perfect game to play on this system. No Japanese knowledge needed, you can play with the 3D full blast no problem and it's just a good ass game. Unless you actively dislike 3D Mario's (which I gather from your apprehensive mentions of 64 and Galaxy) you'd be hard pressed to find a better game to play on this model of the 3DS.

I'm also tempted to get ALBW. It's not as wordy as OoT, so that's a plus, but I've already 100% that game twice and have little reason to own it again other than kinda wanting a Japanese digital copy of it.

Edit:
Really debating on Kid Icarus uprising, as well, but talking myself against it literally for the same reasons I mentioned with ALBW's.

Many thanks! Good to know that ALBW is not too text heavy. I may take the plunge on that or 3D Land tonight; something cheerful for a rainy day ;)

^No prob... Now I just wish I could find some info on Little Battlers eXperience Wars (Danball Senki Wars). Seems no matter what I look up, I can't find a thing about the game.

Thanks, I wish they release a retail package.

With the "historic" snowstorm in the NE US my package seems to have been or will be delayed, oh well at least I'm thankful that my area's not affected by the snowstorm.

Has anyone here had experience with these? I recently noticed they added n3ds and n3dsLL support.

I figure I wouldn't bother getting one of these unless I had one of those plastic hard shells to keep it from wearing out.

I used them on my regular XL and my Vita. They can be a little tricky to apply (though they'll resend you a piece if you mess it up super badly, just have to wait a while). They last a long time, at least 6-8 months without particularly being careful.

Get the matte option, regardless of what skin and what device. It universally looks much nicer.

I saw the Majora faceplate for $15 or so and now people are paying $40?!

I paid $30+ on mine, it's a 2,220 yen plus 790 yen shipping on nippon yasan, so it's around 3,000 yen. With the crappy canadian dollar (and still falling) it's around $30+. This importing is getting too expensive.

I couldn't help myself and went with the EMS shipping, it was only another 410. AU (near) parity makes things a bit better. So ended up around 36/37 dollars.

Regret not buying the Pikachu plate too...shiet.

The pikachu and kirby plates are still available at 1,660 yen from nippon yassan. I'm thinking if I wanna add it up or not. I really want the boo plate but the price inflated to 3,500 yen, that's around $35+

I'm buying too many plates. So far I have the Mushroom plate, Dairantou, the wacky purple/blue pastel Boo plate and now Majoras. Lol! Fkn Nintendo ;_;

is there any difference to the official 4 cd soundtrack? I mean, it says it's a reprint, but why call it special than?

I think that's what it was originally called. In this case it has the same meaning as "selection" as it only has 12 tracks from the game. I think the 4 CD soundtrack has all the ones from the special soundtrack + a lot more.

You don't have to redownload everything though. Just use a PC to copy the content of the old SD card to the new one and you can use it after the transfer. Which is a lot faster that way.

My regular n3DS arrived Friday before I left for my gaming convention. In a nutshell, I love the standard n3DS! Picked up the wood face plate from one of the convention vendors (Video Games New York) this weekend:

I noticed their Rosetta disappeared. Didn't expect to see it on here.

Question. On average, about how much space do the e-books offered on the eShop take? Stuff like the Super Mario-Kun manga. Just ordered an import and trying to decide how big a microSD card to pair it with.

The second stage of the New 3DS digital sale should be starting on the 29th. Does anyone know if they'll apply the discounts at midnight JST or will I have to wait a few hours after that?

Went home on lunch today and found that my Groudon Edition N3DS had arrived, along with the felt No. 12 faceplate!

Was only able to play with it for a couple of seconds, but the Groudon faceplate looks amazing in person. It feels really awesome too, but I would be scared to death of getting it dirty. That's why I'll probably end up stashing the Groudon cover and just playing with the No. 12 instead. I'll post some pictures up tonight when I get home.

Fedex just tried to deliver by 3ds groudon today too but I'm not home. :(

I really want to buy a nice faceplate. Struggling to make sense of the thread so far. What's the easiest source to buy from?

Simple: nippon-yasan or playasia (whoever is cheapest after shipping costs I'd say). Ive also seen people recommend/use amiami and ninnin game. The spreadsheet posted above has these all. I've heard bad things about eurotaku though.

Cheaper when I compared shipped prices, but more complicated: AmazonJP + Tenso (with the caveat that if Amazon sends them in multiple packages you have to pay extra to have them consolidated into one package. Was still cheaper even with consolidation for a faceplate and N3DS for me)
