Life is Strange Episode 1 Review Thread

Wow reviews weren't kidding about the lip sync. It is rather bad. Thankfully most dialogue seems to be Max's thoughts so it's not always distracting.

Lol told ya.

For less than 20 bucks, I think I can grin and bear it if everything else is fine.

The first episode of The Teenage White Girl Simulator is about 4 gigs.

$13.50. There's an email you get from GMG that gives you 25% off the complete season.
Ah man, I don't think I can turn it down at that price. Typically I enjoy playing these games after all the episodes are out so I don't forget anything during the wait (that's how I played both Walking Dead games), but I don't know, I really liked Remember Me despite all its flaws and badly want to play this game. Also, Telltale's WD games are some of my favorite games ever (I really loved them), so I am very happy to see more games like it come out.

Really? I just bought it from GMG about a minute ago and got my key right then and there. I'm downloading as we speak.

There's a thread on the GMG/Playfire forums all about this. People buying now are getting keys but for some reason pre-orders aren't.

I didn't realize it would unlock early, so I'm not super bothered by this, but I hope I get a key tonight!

Whoa. This game popped out of nowhere. I enjoy these type of games and the reviews seem like a good indicator that it isn't just some shovel ware.

The complete season is $11.79 at Nuuvem if you want to save a few more bucks.
Oh, cool. It's not region locked, right?

The game is already so cheap though and it has barely come out (not even out yet where I live afaik). I hope it does well :/.

Polygon giving it points for courage? They sure are weird with what they will knock scores down on or give points for.

Man I'm so jealous of all of you. Can't stand episodic formats so I'm waiting till its 100% finished. Going to be hard waiting as you guys all jump in :/

What do they mean by Courage? I don't want to give them clicks

It's a game about a girl and exploring her life. It also manages to have diverse background characters of all shapes, sizes, and colors.

Ah I see, well going by the demo gameplay this seems to be sort of like a Heavy Rain game. The lip synch is pretty terrible though, kind of stopping me from pulling the trigger.

So cool, this game is pretty well received at the moment. Hoping for a more interesting Beyond: Two Souls with this one, will certainly pick it up.

Aw man, I was really excited when I saw the "available now!" on their Facebook page, I would have loved to play this tonight (US / PS4).

Played for around 70 minutes and had to call it a day, I'll continue tomorrow. So far I actually like it more than I expected. Looks and runs great (I love simpler visuals, since it means I can crank the resolution up to 3200x1800 and get better IQ), I'm very interested in the characters, the soundtrack is very appealing to me, the writing is much better than Dontnod's criticism on GAF (never played Remember Me myself, though it is on my backlog) led me to believe, especially in the actually written journal parts, the dialogues and Max' thoughts do have some >___> lines here and there.

Though I have to say, when the dude pulled the gun, it did feel a bit too much for me. Slow down, Dontnod, that's escalating a bit too quickly.

And I also really enjoy how the supernatural twist was used in gameplay. It may not be the most complex mechanic ever, but having more to it than choosing dialogue options does make it fresh (though so far I'm missing more dialogue options, to be fair).

Personally, I'm the kind of guy who always sticks with his guts and never load a previous save to fix some stupid thing I did in games with consequences for your actions, but this game actively plays with that idea as part of the main experience, "shit, I should've said something else" is reflected in the dialogues, not just you exploiting a game saving mechanic in order to get a better ending, fixing everything is the whole point.

I hope there's a lot more slice of life, since it's what I enjoy the most, though I am really curious about the krazy part as well, the opening was quite intriguing (and gat damn that tornado looked great).

I've seen people saying this is pretty much "tumblr: the game", but hey, I'm ok with that. Bring more slice of life featuring indie songs, I'll be all over that.

Taking some spoilerific pictures.

I think in the beginning of the game, we're in the year (possible major spoilers)
1910

Or I might be wrong considering what's carved in a trunk right next to something I saw....

Seems I have some GMG credit, I think I may as well go for it. Though maybe I should get RE instead.... egh it's probably better to support these devs, I can always get RE later.

So is Sony gonna have this up at midnight, or are they just gonna "get to it eventually" at some point tomorrow?

I'll stop piping in, but the dialogue is kind of ass so far. The journal is pretty good though.

And the lip syncing doesn't exist.

Also this game is trying really fucking hard to convince me that these are teenagers. That Kate girl's notebook is
so blatant about her depression, that I'm kinda grossed out about how heavy-handed her depression and suicidal thoughts are. She has it out in the open with a drawing of a noose hanging from a tree, a pool of blood underneath it, and the words SO LONELY below all of that.

No one in the classroom saw this? Not even the teacher sitting that close to her? Whaaaa?

What's the pricing model here? $6 for an episode and $20 for the season? For that, I would pick this up; got Remember Me on PS+ and liked it a lot. Dontnod seems cool.

Played a bit of this, and I'm quite impressed so far. Max seems like a great character, the environments are full of things to interact with and people to talk to, and it seems like the decisions might actually have some repercussions later on. The rewind mechanic is pretty neat too, and I hope it gets put to good use.

However, some of the dialogue is a little iffy, but it's mostly decent. The facial animations and lip syncing are pretty poor, but they're not too distracting. They will be for some people, though.

Can't wait to play more tomorrow.

Just finished the first episode after two and a half or three hours. I didn't rewind that often except for some of the light puzzle elements, because I usually stick with my gut, but I was surprised with what you can find out if you choose something different that you would not know otherwise.
I'm really digging the artstyle and the whole atmosphere thanks to the good voice acting and the great soundtrack. I also like Max's journal and what she writes in it and the information you get.

I'm really intrigued by how the story will go on. The first episode is a well done setup for a promising story.

Edit: I played on PS4 by the way and it runs flawlessly, didn't experience any slowdowns or bugs.
