Dying Light PC Performance Thread

it's not going to matter, way too many people with different h/w configs have complained about the stutter

Like the others have said, we'll just need to wait for a patch

Seconded, the game obviously has a threading issue. I cant understand why some people still defend it and claim it is not the game but the hardware...Considering it runs pretty good on consoles, it is obvious that Techland does not give a s^%$ about PC. No way I will buy this on PC unless it gets fixed.

It doesn't run entirely smoothly on consoles either though. The CPU optimisations they're working on could perhaps improve those versions too.

gtx 670 ftw with 2gb vram. intel core i5 2500k 3.3 ghz. 8gb ram

2GB VRAM is going to hurt you in this game. You might have to run low textures to keep things smooth. The game recommends cards with 3 and 4 GBs of VRAM, and according to Nvidia's own tests the High setting pushes as much as 4GBs VRAM usage during extended play sessions.

Has anyone done vram tests at the medium texture setting? I'm kind of curious as to how much it eats up there with everything else on high except N-DOF off, as that seems to be a pretty big performance hog as well. One thing that definitely stabilized my performance was that CPU tool that forces all four cores to run consistently, even though it resulted in a net performance loss due to me having to disable hyperthreading on my 960 =\

I really hope they sort out the thread problems with the patch, although there's been some posts recently that make it seem like it's a DX11 problem in general rather than something any developer can do, which means we'll see alleviations at best rather than a hard fix unless they end up putting out a DX12 version of the game or something. Honestly it's times like these I thank christ I got myself a gsync monitor. The thing has been a godsend for open world games like these with lots of fluctuating framerates due to streaming problems.

3 hours into the game. 2 GB gpus. Medium textures, 50% distance view, HBAO+ and 2880x1620 resolution. No frame under 60.

Interesting. Must be a threading issue for him then, because I haven't had any problems with stuttering either on my 780 with medium textures since I used that core locking program and locked the framerate with rivatuner. I'm at 1080p though.

I'm just hoping that the promised patch actually does something. My PC should be able to run this flawlessly, not drop down to sub 30..

Wierd so many have problems. I've been playing since day 1 and the game hovers between 45 and 50 fps at all times, never a dip or a stutter. This is at 3440x1440, with a i7 920 and a 780ti. Settings are all max except for 50% view distance.

What are your vsync settings?

Had to rma my main card and I'm left with an old HD5770 but still wanted to try this. With everything as low as possible: textures on medium, no aa, ssao and low shadows fps goes from a min of 35 to 60 or more in some places, mainly in the 40' so quite playable. (i5 4690) Really surprised such an old card could run this game above 30.

Did you use any of the fixes??

Playing at all highest but shadows on medium, motion blur off (personal preference though it's used to good effect in this game it's still too much for me 20% of its value would suit but off is fine too) and Nvidia DOF off because it's cutscene only (?) it's a hog regardless and I'm very happy with the way it looks. I'm not getting a stutter and I don't know my FPS but it's very smooth and sometimes choppy in the cutscenes but by the amount of people with problems it's only going to get better so bonus.
Game is much fun.

ETA:
Hud off
Grain off
CA fix(ish).

OMG ...you're getting the same perf as me with à cross of 7870xt...
My i7 950 need retirement.

I've tried all the 'snake oil' remove film grain, chromatic aberration, turn everything off, make sure all cores are selected, running the game and turning off affinity to 3 cores then turning them back on again.

I take it there is nothing I can do to improve performance short of dropping £450 on a new GPU?

Hes getting same performance as me with a Haswell i5 4440 and 7950....

• fixed crashes (when unplugging game PAD controller, on landing movie)
• fixed primary weapon HUD selection via mouse controller
• fixed input system performance (along with mouse wheel)
• fixed v-sync in windowed mode
• fixed fullscreen support
• fixed game process priority
• fixed water reflection
• fixed in-game menu map background

Patch is out. I'm getting a pretty solid 60fps looking down into a street filled with zombies where I used to be getting a crazy variable 45-55. Seems to have definitely helped, but I don't want to say anything yet. Will report back after tinkering, haven't tested night yet. 970, i7 3770

edit: still no CA toggle lol

There's definitely a problem on your side. The 4440's max turbo frequency is 3,3 compared to my 3,9 but not enough to justify that difference. You should get above 60 all the time with all settings on low.

Looks like it, took it out to clean it just in case it was thermal throttling and its just crapped the bed, wont even post now. I had anti-static wrist strap on so I didn't zap it or anything.

13 meg patch, dunno if its the bug fix one

• freezes when using Nvidia DoF

• unsatisfactory performance on multi-GPU systems

I like how transparent they are with the game's issues. Usually you have to fight nail and tooth with a dev for them to even recognize problems.

I'll take possibility to change audio language .
french acting performance is probably the worst i've heard in the decade (and there is no lipsync).

The patch did not fix for me...

Running a 780, 3570K and 16 GB RAM.

With medium Texture
Medium Shadow
High Foliage
Ambient On
HBAO On
No DoF
No Motion Blur
No AA
0% View Distance

Getting 40-60

Funny thing is even tough I lock the frame on lets say 50 on nVidia Inspector I can go down to 30ish...

EDIT:

Hmm, I get more frames during day but during night the frames goes down to 40.

The patch has definitely helped. Game runs better now, much better in some cases.
It still drops below 60 (with max LOD) but much less often, and 50% draw distance runs at 60fps with negligible drops.

Impressed.

can you or anyone else post some screens with core utilization overlay at max lod?

I don't know if anyone has noticed yet, but they added a "Very High" shadows selector in the menu. It could be an even higher resolution than the original "High" selector, but my bet is that they simply bumped the 4096 shadows maps from "High" to the "Very High" setting, made "High" the original "Medium" setting, and probably added an even lower shadow resolution for the game's lowest settings.

As I said before, being myself an example of really high performance in the game means that the problem can be fixable for other people. It's not a built in problem in the engine but something they fuck off for some configs in the last moment before release.

Very nice performance boost, but I'm still dropping to 58 looking down onto a busy street w/ flaming cars during daylight, which causes stuttering.

Okay g-sync, you win this time. *pulls out wallet*

Nice performance boost indeed! Very smooth 60 with occassional drops for me now on my i5 4570 / 970 @ 1080p Ultra with default LOD/FOV.

The fix for that monogpu scenario is to enable Adaptive Vsync. You will see a tear in one frame but no stutters.

dont notice any performance difference tbh

did just have my first crash tho, oh boy >_>

Patch is a huge improvement for me. I am now able to run without any audio issues or stuttering. i5 3570k @ 3.4GHz, Win8.1, 16GB RAM, nVidia 970 G1, all settings besides FoV at max. Getting solid enough FPS that I don't notice any issues with the gameplay (I don't have an overlay going on, nor do I really want to set one up.)

Patch did nothing sadly.

60 fps dips to 40 when looking at a lot of zombies and burning cars.

1080p All settings max and shadows on HIGH 50% draw distance.

i5-4670K 4.2 GHz

16 GB RAM

780ti

same as you, all maxed with half distance, 60 with drops to 40s etc. completely playable of course (and then some) but yeah, patch did nothing
