February Xbox One update rolling out to everyone today

I wonder if we'll eventually get the option to toggle the transparency off.

I want my teal tiles back in their full glory, backgrounds be damned.

Weird that it's not a toggle. They basically undid some of their previous work in the process.

Is a WP a "windows phone"? No, I've never used one.

I take it they also have the broken back button functionality that the Xbox One OS has?

It's not broken. It goes to the previous app if you switch from it, and does nothing if you have no previously opened apps. (At least that's how it works on WP, never tested on Xbone for apps I specifically closed.

If you think the apps and points within the apps as pages, and assume that everything is an app (including the start screen) it actually makes perfect sense.

Have you tried shutting down manually the application (go home, menu, quit), then starting it again ? It's what I usually do when an app doesn't behave how it should, and it usually fixes it.

Ya, that won't work because the app technically never starts, so the option to quit doesn't appear.

One of the survey questions in the preview dashboard survey section was asking about being able to play with the amount of transparency. I believe the choice to give more options was the largest percentage getter :)

It will open back up a manually closed app/game if that was the last thing on Bone. Which is the only difference from WP. I don't find it to be a particularly heinous thing especially since manually quitting stuff isn't something that is necessary.

I'd rather it not re-open things that were closed, but once I understood what was up it hasn't been a problem for me. The first time it happened though? I thought my Killer Instinct was haunted, lol.

You can also use the hub to launch your game normally, as a broadcast, or as a party.

So is broadcasting easier?

I have a buddy that I forced to sign up for Twitch because myself and our other friends want to ridicule him as he plays. (All in good fun.) His excuse for not Broadcasting is that its too complicated.
If it's literally just going to the game hub and clicking "Broadcast" ....then he'll have run out of excuses. LoL. :)

I just noticed this update changed around the achievement app a bit. It now lists your achievements in 3 rows instead of 2. It's a little change but I like it.

Yeah. In the game hub you can choose "Play and Broadcast" as an option to launch the game. It's not that hard without the game hub though, you just double tap the guide button to bring up the snap center and open twitch in snap then hit broadcast.

Is there a way to disable the transparency on tiles? I like my custom background but I really don't like how it looks with the transparent tiles.

Edit: Oh there isn't? That sucks.

Thanks for the reply.

My friend says he gets issues with streaming, even though he has changed the Settings to allow streaming and has a Twitch username and password. Wonder if this will solve whatever issue he was having... Guess I'll find out!

I don't get all the hubbub about screenshots, why are people so thirsty for them?

It's basically like adding photo-mode to any and everything on the system. Whether you're gawking at visuals (for better or worse) or putting together reference material for a strategy guide you're making, it comes in handy.

I think they're useless, but some people like 'em. So might as well satisfy everyone. I love the 30 second videos on Xbox One the most. I just don't like that MS doesn't allow you to turn off the automatically generated videos. If MS allows you to use your screenshots as backgrounds for the main UI, they'll actually have found a good use for screenshots.

Sometimes you want to share something, and a screenshot captures it just fine, without the need for video. An image is easier to link/share to people and they can just give it a quick look. It'll be especially nice if at some point we get twitter integration that lets us tweet out images from the console.

I find it extremely unintuitive after a full year of use.

Can you honestly say that you understand exactly when an app like Achievements or Friends will be snapped instead of opening full screen when you click on it?

There's usually a little "snap" icon in the top right corner of the tile that tells you it's the snapped version of an app instead of the full version.

Or know exactly to which screen you will be taken every time when you press the B button?

Depends on where you are at.

When deep inside an app like Hulu:
Previous menu(s) within the app ---> home menu in app --> Xbox dashboard --> Previous app/game you were in

When at home menu of an app like Hulu:
Xbox dashboard --> previous app/game you were in

When on Xbox dashboard:
Previous app/game you were in

nope, saw the same for sunset overdrive, fh2, and peggle 2. the OS is in a broken state and simply won't launch games. The only way to fix it is to hard-boot (holiding the xbox logo on the console) and manually restarting the console.
It's been a known issue for a while, but hopefullly it's addressed in the next patch (though I'm not holding my breath)

Just started having this issue this weekend.

Had to hard reset to launch FH2 after I turned the console back on from standby.

You can already tweet your shared clips so I can't see why images wouldn't be added to that.

Holy mother of CHRIST the new Full-Screen achievements app is incredible. It's now just like a better version of the 360 achievements screen. With smaller achievement rectangles navigating and viewing achievements full-screen is so much better.

I would say "Based Spencer", as I am wont to do in these situations, but this actually looks like 1 step forward and 2 very unfortunate steps back.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but before you were able to PUSH A on any achievement (earned or un-earned) to go to a page dedicated to that achievement. And from there, you can set the achievement art as background if you've earned the achievement, or you can search for a solution via the TrueAchievements app if you haven't earned the achievement.

Now pushing A does absolutely nothing. Microsoft is drunk god dammit.

edit: Maybe something was wrong with my internet because now pushing A performs the expected behaviour. *shrugs* We're back to one step forward. BASED SPENCER

It will only go back to dashboard in those cases if the dashboard was what the person was on when they entered the app. If I were to go to Netflix and then Hulu Plus by using Kinect. Hitting B will exit Hulu and go to Netflix.

Will Microsoft ever do custom gamer pics? It's one of the features I want brought over from my PS4, now that we got screenshots.

Microsoft needs to bring back paid/promotional gamerpics or allow custom gamerpics like Sony.

The current gamerpic situation is boring on XB1. We get the worst of both worlds. With 360 almost every new game came with purchasable gamerpics - no matter the game I could be assured that I could display my affection for a certain game via my gamerpic.

Well, Xbox One gamerpics are just a big collection of random drawings. Nothing game related. Sometimes I wonder why Microsoft didn't just copy and paste the features of 360 from day one, sigh. From day one there should have been Ryse gamerpics, Max Curse Of Brotherhood gamerpics, etc... That or follow the Sony route and let us choose anything for a gamerpic gosh darn it.

I agree with you.No custom gamerpics or the option to buy new ones is disgusting.

True; good point. I assume the B button is a bigger problem for people without kinect though.

Was just wandering out on the dashboard and accidentally discovered that devs can post messages on their gamehub similar to messages on your own activity feed.

anyone having issues with party chat? my friends and i keep getting an "X' over our names and we cant speak to each other even though we can join each others games and parties. i looked up that a strict NAT could be the issue but my NAT is "moderate" and so are my friends. any solutions??

NVM: turns out three of my friends figured out where NAT settings were and they changed theirs from strict to moderate. they didnt know where to see their NAT settings before.

Yes, it's pretty cool but I was hoping for it to be a straight up Miiverse clone where everyone can post in that Game Hub activity feed and for example ask for help in the game or look for multiplayer buddies.

Since this update I'm getting dropped frames in the Netflix app. Not because of buffering, but like when you use a shitty flash player on an old PC... Anyone else?

Disgusting is kind of a strong word but it is disappointing that sort of thing hasn't been implemented.

That was a great way of customizing your profile as well as having a bit of a reward system if they're there for unlocking.

Since installing the update I have now had two instances of turning on my Xbox one, trying to get it to load a game or app and having it do nothing. Only resolution was a hard reset--I had to unplug my damned Xbox one. Well done Microsoft. Your fantastic electronic media dream device doesn't launch games for me.

Has anyone had a problem where your xbox refuses to turn off for a long time? I see the kinect lights blink on and off for a while, so I assume it's related to the Kinect somehow. Also when this is happening and I launch Destiny it fails to start and the Kinect lights never turn off like. This happens to me about once a week and a hard reset or unplugging the Kinect fixes it. I'm guessing my Kinect is failing but has this happened to anyone else? Started right after I got this dashboard.

With Kinect, broadcasting is as easy as sayign "Xbox Broadcast" and then hitting the "Start Broadcast" button. Glad they've made it easy for non-Kinect Xbox's.

I'm a bit surprised that we haven't see the March preview yet.
Hopefully that means Voice-Messages, Screenshots and Background Music!

Haha, yeah I know. Unrealistic thinking, though I do expect to see screenshots with the next update.

I was expecting this weekend as that is when they usually do them but nothing :(
