(I am quite surprised there have been few posts featuring Holy Grail shots relating to The Order...)

The El Risitas video is funny because it makes fun of gamers' attitudes towards developers. It's a pisstake of gamers, not the developers. It's pretending that all the downgrade/black bars/5 hours nonsense that we argue about is actually a big conspiracy by developers, and lets us, the gamers, see how ridiculous it is to have that attitude.
As evidenced by the hellhole that are YouTube comments, some gamers don't seem to get that :p

If anyone posts that video in the OT or Review thread as a serious take on RaD "ripping us off," a might have to smash my head into a table (I have this terrible feeling someone will do that).

The Order reception on GAF proves yet again that you can never underestimate the scale of idiocy of an angry mob.

"Oh no...Will someone think of the gamers!!"

BTW the game unlocks at midnight Thursday which means the OT can probably go up tomorrow night at midnight (24 hours prior) :D

We're almost there folks

Lol. My OT suggestion was, The Order 1886 |OT| It is my duty as a knight to sample as much peril as I can.

I dont think anyone got it.

Thanks for your impressions. Would you care to mention what difficulty you are playing on?

No problem, happy to share them.

Hard, with aim assist off. I have a hard time with the enemies at times, especially when you get a good variety of enemy ai going. They mix their strategies well.

Hard with aim assist off sounds like the way I will go. I love a challenge. It's good to know that the AI arent just bullet sponges and give you a challenge.

I just beat it. I didn't enjoy the second half at all. I'm kind of bummed as I watch the credits roll.

I'm expecting reviews akin to Ryse: Son of Rome. :/

Can you elaborate without spoilers? What differentiated the second half from the first that made it less enjoyable?

The gameplay became repetitive for me about four hours in. The slow-time mechanic just isn't enough to make the combat, which is held back by average A.I., exciting. After the first stealth section, stealth becomes a chore. There are cutscenes and QTEs absolutely everywhere. My favorite cutscene was about halfway through the game, and it amped me up, but everything after it didn't capture my interest.

After watching the credits I tried to think of a reason to run through it again, but there's no difficulty higher than Hard, no multiplayer to speak of, unlockables, or anything else to push replay value.

It's these things that make it a disappointment to me.

It's just my opinion. Maybe you'll walk away happy. I honestly don't foresee this game performing well critically, although it could still sell well as Michael Pachter predicts.

Hmm cutscenes and QTE don't typically bother me so it will depend how it flows together.

I loved MGS4 and there was cutscenes there that lasted over an hour without any gameplay.

Nah the mods are on high alert now.

The OT should be fine.

Yeah, mods don't stand much for inside the OTs, even if it seems things are let go a bit in other places, due probably to people not reporting and assuming mods are omnipresent are whatever.

Sometimes that creates a divide that makes an 'us' vs 'them' dynamic that the community thrives on. OT for 'positive' and gaming side for 'negative', but it is what it is.

Edit: I like stealth sections normally, but not in the way it sounds like they are handled in this game. Probably going to be the bits I'm most critical of when the time comes.

That in bold was my biggest fear. I may pass this game for now, and grab it when its chaper (or at least when the brazilian coin gets more value).

I don't know why they didn't add at least a unlockable difficulty and a trophy for it. That would do nothing but good for this game!

Right not much can be done about that.

Thanks for your impressions, I fear to have similar ones. I don´t know yet what I´ll do, but I think that perhaps a rental is the best option for me.

Thats why I'm a bit jaded about doing my first playthrough on hard. It will give more incentive to go for a second playthrough immediately if I play on normal first. But at the same time I want my first go to be set to the best available settings configuration to maximize my enjoyment.

LOL!!!! XD I know this freak, he´s called "Risitas" ( translated something like "lulz" ). If it is hilarious for anyone that doesn´t even know this guy or what is he really saying, imagine when you know him... It´s such a weird mix of contexts!

that guys facial expressions made me laugh a lot.

The game is a very solid, very engaging third-person shooter with some more interactive cinematic elements and quick-time events than the average shooter. The game puts it's focus on the characters and the story (both of which are very, very good) and uses the incredible atmosphere and visuals to rope you in.

This is as linear as it gets in terms of single-player games (something I welcome in a market that is suffering from open-world, "checklist gaming" overload); but I can forgive the linear nature because of how gorgeous everything is. I'm someone who doesn't mind linear gameplay, and I often take the time to absorb the environments.

The shooting is par for the course, gunplay is varied a bit because you're using weapons designed by Nikola Tesla. Some of these guns are really cool, sporting innovative (for the era) secondary fire modes.

Every context sensitive action takes place within a cinematic context, so you always feel as though you're part of the story. Dying/failing takes on a similar form and your characters always have reactions to those instances.

The frequent bursts of gameplay are balanced with equally frequent bursts of cinematic storytelling, but it's all seamlessly integrated and all unfolding in real time. At no point in time have I ever been taken out of the story with a jarring cut to the action, or vice versa. The game flows together like nothing I've ever seen. If you're someone like me who appreciates video games as an alternative form of cinematic storytelling (interactive), then you might enjoy this.

I've just passed chapter 5 and I've been playing for roughly 4 hours.

I wonder how can a game in 2015 be so utterly unambitious gameplay wise with presumably such a big budget. I think if it as bad review wise as Ryse then they should can the IP and either get RAD to do another new IP but this time with focus on gameplay or use that money for some other studio. I dont care how beautiful a game is but it cannot and should not be unambitious gameplay wise. It is not excusable. The worst part is it appears even the story which is probably the only thing they concentrated on is also apparently bad.

I haven't seen spoilers but is this true?

I thought some people liked and praised its story (even though it missed some of its potentials). I would be very disappointed if RaD wasted 4 years creating bad or unremarkable story and plot

Appreciate the impressions. Seems to be the first overall negative one we have. It's interesting you preferred the first half of the game, and disliked the second half. In many of the other impressions, it was largely the opposite, with people seemingly preferring the second half as it apparently picks up in tempo a bit.

I've only watched it on youtube but personally I found it pretty bland. It feels like the game is episodes 1-3 of a 10 part story and that it leaves a few too many things unanswered or unresolved.

Cheers for the impressions!

To me, this appraisal aligns perfectly with not only what the game has ostensibly held itself out to be, but what the average experienced gamer probably should have expected, given the entire package: highly cinematic, flawed, but ultimately enjoyable.

I guess the only areas that may have come as a surprise were the visuals - for the better, as it looks astounding - and the length, probably for the worse for most.

It also sounds a bit more QTE heavy than I originally guessed, which is a shame, as three Uncharteds and one Tomb Raider has left me completely unwilling to play one of "these" games again; not for full price, anyhow.

Review day will be interesting, that's for sure.

What? UC2 is not QTE heavy at all.

Even only having seen the trailers, I get the feeling that this is just the first part of a larger planned story.

There's nothing wrong with just making a great game in a tried and true genre. Not every single title has to push boundaries, and innovate, and revolutionize. Hell, Wolfenstein: The New Order was essentially a refinement of stuff those folks were doing since their Starbreeze days with a little bit more Half Life 2 thrown in, and was easily my favorite shooter in years. The Evil Within was pretty much Mikami's Greatest Hits, and with a bit more polish would've been really great. Etc. etc.

That's not to say I think The Order will be great, in fact I've seen enough to know I won't think very highly of it honestly, but there's nothing wrong with just wanting to make a great story driven shooter. We don't actually get a lot of those.

2.5 hours of ridiculously high quality cutscenes. It requires so much work to get the visuals and audio at this level.

I wouldn't have minded sitting back and just watching the cutscenes back to back without the gameplay if it were 1/4 the price.
