Games you have seen through until the bitter end

ITT: I learn that people have different tastes in games than I do.

Amen to that, I like every single one of those games with the exception of Rogue Legacy. I can't even get past the first few rooms. You die way too easily in that game, and this is coming from someone that has completed every Souls game thus far. It's possible I'm not getting something I should be getting about that game.

This crap. QTE, cutscene, cutscene, shallow easy gameplay, cutscene, crap story, shallow easy gameplay cutscene, the end. Waste of 6 hours.

I know this is your opinion and all, but I couldn't agree less with this. That is definitely not the rhythm of this game. Way more gameplay than it would seem reading your post. Maybe you were just in a bad mood while playing? I don't think the story was the greatest thing ever, but crap? I think we're indulging in a little hyperbole here.

Same, but I don't think it decreased my IQ. I just thought it was bad design from a gameplay standpoint how (spoilers)
you go from MURDER cases, which are definitely the most fun + interesting to ARSON, which is boring af in comparison. I get why they did it from a story perspective but in terms of gameplay it was bad design imo. Also the cheating thing was really dumb and it didn't really make me feel sorry that Cole died at the end.

I thought that was a really weird turn in the story.
You play 90% as one character and then the other 10 as somebody completely different.
What were they thinking?!

God of War 3 was pain suffering for me. I was pretty much done with action adventure beat em ups, GoW3 was the game that sealed it. Bioshock 2 came close, I just wanted to finish the dam game, it's nowhere near as good as 1.

Already replied in this thread to someone questioning my post.

Eh?

I beat the game on the hardest difficulty by using the bow as a machine gun. There's no challenge in the game, unless you're playing one handed with a controller. The AI is terrible, and even combat situations that appear to offer the illusion of choice are scripted - I remember coming across a guy on a turret, and shooting through the clear gaps in the defence wasn't doing any damage to him. Why? Because I had to sneak up and blow up a certain something nearer to him for dramatic effect. The story is stupid, and Lara's ascent from a scared girl to the T1000 is just laughable.

Most overrated pile of tosh I've ever played. Uncharted - fun = Tomb Raider 2013.

Add to that a lifeless upgrade system, and forgettable characters.

Graphics were bloody amazing, though. The game is gorgeous maxed out at 1440p.

I do think he is exaggerating the cutscene stuff, although the few times QTE appeared were annoying. But the story was real fucking garbage. This is one of the few games I dislike so much I actually get a bit mad just thinking about it.

Assassin's Creed 3. I was halfway done and felt obliged to finish it, but it was a chore and a pain all the way through. When I was finally done, I swore to never play an AC game again.

Then why don't you go ahead and play it with one hand, then? It's far more annoying when someone claims that in order to make something challenging they have to play with their feet, nose, or some other bodily appendage. Go ahead and fucking do it then. Perhaps you're much better than other players, so I don't understand this knock. The game also handles well and looks great, but you won't say that because you just want to point out all that is bad so as to not suggest that there is anything good about the game.

Can't say I have, I've got no pride whatsoever about finishing games if I'm not having fun. There have been a couple of times where I felt ready for the end and it took maybe an hour or two longer to get there - the true ending to Persona 4 comes to mind - but that's been more about fatigue at the sheer length of the game.

I will say that playing through Nier the last time for the True Ending was emotionally draining, but it's designed to be that way. Bitter end, indeed. :[

Medal of Honor: Warfighter's multiplayer. The campaign was great but the MP was an unpolished clusterfuck...still played it 3-4 times a week for over 6 months and leveled up pretty high.

I rarely finish games I don't like, but I felt I owed it myself to finish pokemon y despite it easily having the worst story in the series. I know I know, you don't play pokemon for the story, blah blah blah, but fuck, come on gamefreak. Black and white had a passable story, and then you give us this shit with x and y? So lame.

Don't want to enrage you or anything, but what about the story so angered you?

I said it has great graphics. (Post 109 in this thread). Sound design is also decent.

Copying from my Steam review on gameplay/handles well - Hint, it doesn't.

"Let's start with the AI. The AI is either very sporting, or someone Bill & Ted collected from the 15th century. Give them a bow & arrow, and they'll hit an apple off your head from 50 yards... Give them a gun, and stand up with just your waist below cover (which happens quite frequently, as the cover system can be a tad hit or miss), and just watch them try to figure out how the gun works. They can also land a stick of dynamite on your head from 30 yards, which is quite a feat for someone unable to operate a trigger.

The stealth system is also hit & miss. Either that, or enemies are deaf, dumb, & blind. Every time involves little more than a 5 second wait - As soon as person A turns around, shoot his buddy in the back of the head with an arrow, because the sound of a man yelping as his skull is pierced by a homemade arrow, bringing 200lbs to the ground with a thump, isn't enough to alert his buddy less than 3 yards away.

But why bother with stealth? Even on hard, the AI is dumb, you can shoot arrows like a machine gun, and there's no downside to doing so. Arrows are littered around the island in such a way that there's no real sense of needing to conserve to stay alive - The element of survival isn't told through conventional gameplay, but instead through scripted sequences & story driven cutscenes."

Average gameplay, great graphics, poor story poorly told.

Actually, thinking more on this I felt this way about RE4. It was a great game, nothing terrible about it, but I felt for a game of its genre it just kept going for way too long. It was like a game-metaphor for Pauly Shore's career. It outstayed its welcome in my opinion.

I just forced myself to beat castlevania mirror of fate cause I wanted to play LOS2. MoF was terrible, half way through I was like, why am I playing this? But I forced myself to finish so I could understand the story. I should have just youtubed it.

Skyward Sword. What a sludge. If I had to fight The Imprisoned one more time I was going to do something that I would regret very much.

Tales of the Abyss 3DS.

I couldn't believe that I had read such praise for the game before playing it; I kept waiting for the game to "get good" but it never did. Terrible characters, hours of quests that were just running from one previous town to another, etc. The game unsold me on the Tales series after finishing it, don't know if I'll ever play my copy of Vesperia now.

None, any game I have beaten I have enjoyed. I never continue playing a game if I'm not enjoying it. Some of the games that I've stopped playing after a only a few hours are AC3, ACIV, LA Noire, Fable 3, and lately Dragon Age Inquisition.

Max Payne 1 and 2 on PS2. Great games on PC, almost unplayable ports on PS2, but I wanted to experience the entire story.

Also Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. I'm a huge fan of the series, but I had to force myself to finish this one because I was playing the entire series. There was a point in this game where I was halfway through and had to fight a boss, but I didn't have enough ammo to kill it, and there was no way to backtrack to find more, so I had to start the entire game over.

Uncharted or M&L Dream Team immediately come to mind. Neither were necessarily bad games IMO (although playing UC1 in 2015 would probably be painful), but I would not consider playing either of them ever again, it was more a relief they were over than being happy with what I just experienced.

In Uncharted's case, it would have been much better decision to just watch the cutscenes on YT and actually start with 2.

I don't play too many games all the way through if I find myself not having fun.

I managed to make it about 60% through Ryse somehow.

Homefront's 3 hour campaign felt closer to 20 but I survived that one.

Dragon Age 2.

Had to watch a lets play along side my play through to get to the end.

That's what I came here for too. I did actually play through it myself, but by around the halfway point I practically stopped doing any side quests and focused on the main quest just to get through it.

Tomb Raider Reboot
Took me about 18 hours to 100%
Not a bad game in itself, but a horrible Tomb Raider title. It looked super nice, and there were many bars to fill but the game itself was forgettable. Shitty story, shitty platforming and shitty puzzles.
Classic Tomb Raider was just about 1000 times better than this.

Project X Zone
This was just way too long. The combo-based gameplay is fun, yes, but it's also extremely repetitive and there are next to no tactics involved. Actually playing the game to see the next bit of storyline became super bothersome once everything on the field had giant healthbars. Also, the story was the worst possible crossover story,
it constantly "resetted" and like >75% of the time was just filler content to drag it out some more.
Loved the spriteart, tho.

Not that I consider them horrible, but having to play through these was not a pleasure ...

Bioshock Infinite - gameplay was alright but the level design and story left me bored.

Assassin's Creed 1 - although I liked 2 a lot, the first one was a pain to get through. I never played another AC game more than a couple hours after 2. I plan to try Black Flag when I get a PS4.

Unreal 2 - being a huge Unreal fan I felt I had to play this.

There were many other games that I never finished but I still played way too much instead of just quitting early. I'm learning to quit early on games I dont like, but when I buy something digitally I feel like I have to get my money's worth out of it so I play it more than I should before realizing that I am not having any fun with it.

For the couple of people who say Tomb Raider, wth? That game had me hooked so bad I played it and finished it in 2 days. Couldn't do much of anything else until I finished it.

The closest that comes to mind was Nostalgia. That game failed to spark any interest in me and yet I still pushed forward and beat it. At least I was smart enough to ignore the post-game content on that bland game.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 was the most recent. I enjoyed parts of it a lot but after a while, I lost most every ounce of interest and kept playing it just because I was close to the end. Unrewarding ending.

Black Ops 2: About halfway into game i started running past the enemies towards the next checkpoint when possible.
Never liked CoD, but felt like at least I have to play a game of the series to know why these games are nothing for me.

Over the last five years the ones I regret are duke nukem forever, assassin's creed 3, watch dogs. The last two had a couple great moments but we're mostly a boring chore to play through. Duke nukem was just plain bad, but I loved it as a child so I toughed it out.

Assassins Creed 3. Such a damn boring game, finished the game and had no idea what happened story wise.

Fallout 3. Suffering through gameplay that piss poor, for what? Never again Bethesda. Granted it took me years to finish it because I kept quitting and returning for some reason.

Yeah, Fallout 3 might be the only game I've finished despite not liking it at all.

The Tintin film game. It wasn't the worst but primarily played through cause my gf got it for me.

I rarely go through games I hate now. Mostly cause I barely buy games and rent them, so if the game sucks, just send it back and hope for one tbat is worth my time.

The Last of Us. Way too long, overdramatic, a shitload of padding, predictable encounter environments, etc. Just not a good experience to me but I kept playing to discover what was so magical and life-changing about the story. Got some giraffes and a ham-fisted ending.

Omg THANK YOU. If I see one more person here refer to it as "transcendent" I'm going to puke out my heart. I get that games don't usually have decent stories relative to other media so anytime something with a modicum of thought put into it comes along it seems like the best thing ever, but hell. It's about as by-the-books as a zombie apocalypse story can be. But yeah omg giraffes game of the century.
