Games you can't believe you played as much as you did

You know, that game that you look back on and think, "oh yeah, I did play that for a month straight."

I feel like this every time I reflect back on the 100+ hours I put into FTL. I learned pretty much everything there was to know about that game, unlocked every ship, beat it on Normal several times, etc. It doesn't feel like it in retrospect, but I was kinda obsessed with that game.

Similarly (though to a lesser degree), I put over 50 hours into Spelunky and still never felt like I was any good.

Destiny for me. Periodically I look at my stats and am slightly aghast at how much time I've stuck into it. And I'm not even that dedicated, I'm on 200 hours now which I know doesn't compare to those hardcore players who are thousands of hours and counting but for me, thats a lot of game time on a single title; especially a title that, on the face of it, I should really dislike. But I love it, even though I can run 90% of the game with my eyes shut now. Its still fun to me for reasons I can't quite articulate.

Skyrim. I'm pretty sure I put about 200 hours into that game...over three or so characters, each. I have absolutely no idea how I played it for that long. It didn't feel like nearly a fraction of that and I wasn't even having that much fun.

I would say 3000 hours on WoW over the course of a year or two but I can fully believe I played for that long.

My first MMO was a game called endless online.

I don't remember my final playtime but I remember checking it and it being over 1000 hours. I also don't think I ever got above level 18.

The game is actually still alive today but hasn't been updated since 2011.

Probably Ragnarok Online. Mindless grinding. The game always gave me this distinct feeling. It kept me coming back, always pouring in dozens of hours. Now I sort of want to play it again.

Fallout 3 on the ps3, first Bethesda game I played and loved every second. Fallout became one of my top 5 favorite franchise after that

PAULINK

I microwave steaks.
Spelunky, I used to be a spelunky fiend trying to get all the achievements, beat my high scores and such.

Destiny.

Absolutely was consumed by it for a solid month and now I cannot stand to even load it up. It's incredibly dull and soulless to me now. I can't understand why i played it so much in it's debut month.

I think i was holding onto what if and the ambiguous story in my head was planned but in reality it was cemented in money grabbing when the DLC arrived.

Sonic Adventure. I got it when I first got my Dreamcast. That game was so broken and I didn't really notice. I was young, had a new console, loved it. Played it all the time.

Dark Souls is the only game I have ever put over 100 hours into on a single playthrough. And I wanted more.

This surprised me because I had tried Demon's Souls previously and didn't get it. For whatever reason Dark just clicked me. I have since revisited Demon's Souls and loved it.

WoW, like 6000 hours of my life in that game.

TF2 8-900 hours. Recently The Evil Within 80+ hours and the DLC hasn't even released yet, I rarely ever play a single player game this long.

Me and my friend have logged 700 hours of GTA IV PC Multiplayer alone. We just turn off friendly fire, set weapon spawns to "Many" and then go berserk through the city. Most of those hours have been spent running each other over with the Helicopter rotors to make the other one fly through the city though or shooting each other with rocket launchers.

Stealth Destiny thread.......

My answer is (surprisingly) Destiny, wasted 100 hours of my life on that thing before I woke up and smelt the coffee.

I somehow managed to put 140 hours of gametime into a FFXII on a single save, either that game was a lot bigger than I remember or I was just obsessed with it.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Completed on normal, then half way through my Nightmare run I just thought "I'm really not enjoying this."

It was just the completionist aspect of the game that had kept me going. Spent 100 hours and sorta wish I had half of that back.

All time? Probably the first Shenmue, must have finished that game 7 or 8 times, generally play through it once every 18 months or so.

Currently I play a lot of Mario Golf World Tour, mainy thanks to there being a whole bunch of new tournaments to play once every couple weeks.

This pretty much mirrors what I was going to say.

Spyro 2
Croc 2
Tomb Raider 2
Spider-Man 2 (PS1)
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (PS1)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (PS2)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Spider-Man 2 (PS2)

We didn't have a memory card for the PS1, so it resulted in us playing through the games over and over. I didn't have a memory card for my PS2 for quite a while, so the same thing happened there. Luckily I got one eventually.

I have a 300+ hours save for FFX on ps2, but I was I kid and had only that to play.

And I have a 90+ hours save for Ni No Kuni. Doesn't seem much, but the fun fact is that I spent all that hours playing while I was writing my graduation thesis.
Got 110/110 points for that! :D

Final Fantasy XI.

Also, The Sims series. Thankfully EA has ruined the series so now I have more time to play other games.

Yeah, that one DLC. What a terrible practice.

I used to play the shit out of Cool Boarders 4 because I didn't have much else to play. NFL 2K5 and NFL Gameday 2001. I think I played like a dozen or so franchise years in each.

Titanfall on PC
with a gamepad
.

Shit I still pop in for occasional titanfall matches. If the player base hadn't evaporated I would be on more frequently. My friends all got it because we wanted an fps to play together that wasn't bugged to all hell and back, and it has a great sense of mobility. Good game that just needs more players and more content that doesn't fracture playlists

Almost 5000 hours in vanilla WoW, from december 2004 to january 2007. Pretty much was the only thing I did with my free time - granted, I wasn't always playing while logged in. I'd do it again because we're never going to get another game like that.

The only other game I've put a truly ridiculous amount of time into was monster hunter freedom unite on PSP. Since then I've put a lot of hours into MH games, but aside from P3rd those all had multiplayer. I just got really into the unrelenting challenge of solo g-rank in FU even though the quests sometimes took upwards of 40 minutes.

Skyrim is a funny one. I loved every second of the 114 hours it took me to accomplish the goals I wanted to in that game. Once I got that one last mask I was after, I quit the game and that was that. I've tried going back few times with the DLC and such, but I get bored within minutes and have no desire at all to keep playing. It was one of my favourite games of 2011 and I never want to start the game again. Similar situation with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

At least with wasted WoW hours I can say I'm still interested in the game, although I've been on and off (mostly off) for 8 years now. "Only" played actively the first two and a half years.

It's always Pokemon. I usually average 300 hour each installment getting full pokedexes and doing post game stuff.

Armored core: For answer. Hated the game but kept playing and playing and playing. Ended up with an S rank in every single solitary mission on every difficulty so I could max out the adjustment points.

Good--Terraria/Starbound/Minecraft.
I never thought I'd get so much enjoyment from such simple games.

Bad-- Destiny
It's a very shallow game, but friends kept me playing.

I was pretty horrified when I realised I'd /played almost a month total in real life time in WoW, but that was also at a time in my life where I needed a distraction from things.

I've played more than that in total on Team Fortress 2 (around 1000 or so hours) but that's over 7+ years as opposed to about a year and a half!
