DirectX 12 adds a 20% gpu boost to the PC version of Fable

Efficiency is always appreciated I suppose. Glad to hear the Bone gets some benefits from an improved Direct X :p Like others have said, you're not clocking or modifying hardware any differently, so it won't quite see the advantages some think it'll lead to, but it'll utilize what's there much better.

How far along is Sony's API in comparison? If that's even measurable?

Probably just means "we ran our own optimized benchmark and it ran 20% better on he new API"

Hardware is set. Power does not change.

A 20% boost is borderline magical.

This is great news for all XBone developers.

Does the ps4 get some similar boosts, or does it avoid using directX 12 entirely?

You're asking if the ps4 uses MICROSOFT's DirectX?

My eyes started twitching when I read that ;)

It doesn't. It uses it's own tools.

And of course, Sony's own teams are optimizing things and getting better results from the GPU as time goes by. They just don't talk about it. Nobody ever did until this gen, I believe.

Also, that number is magical because it's a bullshit number using best case scenarios, *of course*. This is how PR works :)

A little short of the 50% increase I guess.

I don't know what to believe anymore.

Lol. I wonder if this one is real this time, or if it's 10x, no 6x, no 3x the 360's power, or was that Cloud powered, or was it new SDK tools or...oh who knows anymore.

Cool, hopefully this means that they'll be able to stop making tradeoffs and sacrifices to get multiplatform games running at 900p on Xbone, and the only major difference will be the resolution.

Haven't you heard? resolution doesn't matter anymore :)

And in all seriousness, both consoles will see improved games during their lifecycles, as with every other console that has a decent lifespan.

Good for developers, and eventually, good for consumers.

A claim like that should need a specific before-and-after tech demonstration to take anywhere near face value. Like, show a retail game that had known performance shortcomings running with 20% more efficient rendering.

Good to hear. As an owner of both, my friends all are Xbox users and it was annoying buying a lower res/less steady frame rate version to play with them.

That being said, Id assume Sony is constantly improving their systems as well so we shall see

Here's hoping we see some great games utilizing the extra juice

People are so quick to compare things to PS4 (console warz!).

Why can't it simply be a good thing to see the system improve?
I'm with you. The console war bullshit is coming on strong in this thread. Reminds me of the Xbox reveal. How people be so upset at good news is beyond me.

God , I thought master race vs console peasants talk was bad but its even worse between the MS and Sony console folk... gawd. Give it a rest....

Sony has a conciderable market advantage already with the new gen, MS could really use a boost coz it was loosing on all fronts. Lets hope MS gets some more exciting games as well for at the end of the day, its the games that sell a gaming machine. Also, I wanna see that boost before I believe it...

Both have to look out for steam machines though.

Damn, basically, a boost every 6 months - 1 year... and it gets bigger! First it was 10%, now 20%... this console is unstoppable. PS4 is dead.

I don't why it comes as a shock that the creator of Direct X is able to boost the power of their GPU through the magic of coding.

youre joking right? assuming youre not, they cant ever make it more powerfull, never, heardware is set, the only thing they can do is use it in a more efficient way, you cant spin this.

MS is back to full on lying mode. Welcome back.

but why do you need all that boost when you have the Cloud tho?

That's interesting.

Let's hope developers embrace DX12 and we can see some results by next year.

But dumbasses are going to run around thinking it's a 20% unlock of resources like the 10% CPU boost pre-launch and the (up to) 10% GPU without Kinect.

Why are they increasing the power anyway? Nielsen showed that people buy Xbox for the "brand" anyway! /s
