Ascension. Half of enemy team disconnects before game is half over. Boring blowout ensues. I land a beautiful mid air Snipe 3 to Ramp no scope headshot, so that sort of makes it worthwhile.

Is there a reliable way to check in game or are you monitoring network traffic? Also, are you playing Halo 2 Classic? The lack of dedicated servers seems to be more of an issue on certain games.

I'm talking one vs. one BR battle trading. That didn't come along until H3 or later.

If it says you are party leader and/or you hear the countdown timer you are either host or on dedis. This has to happened to me every single game so I assume I did not pull host every game.

It's working very well now. They still need to work in the team balance based on skill level, and about that dedicated server thing. Other then that I'm entering in matches in a expected time, comparable to most online matchmaking games.

I've played split-screen with my cousin a BTB match. It took at about 3~4 minutes to start. It was working fine but then a bunch of people quit. I think it happened some host migration because then I started to notice some lag. It was a fun match anyway though.

I'm back to Halo now... after the network issues I stopped playing even the campaing, but now I'm excited to finish them again. I may not even buy Bloodborne this month anymore since I won't have time to play that much, and both Halo and Revelations 2 will be enough for me for quite a long time, as long as they both keep working fine.

Ascension, again. Ridiculous skill gap between players due to lack of rank matching, sniper hit detection is still hilariously broken, peer hosted once again. BUT IT WENT THE WHOLE GAME WITHOUT ANYONE LAGGING OUT OR QUITTING! Woohoo, first reasonably acceptable game out of ten!

Man I forgot how hard the first two games are on legendary solo. At least the elite shields don't recharge in CE. At least, I don't think they do.

They do, just takes a lot longer than the other games. Which is why Plasma weapons are crucial for Legendary, even if you can't finish them off, they will usually retreat to get their shields back, taking them out of the battle momentarily.

This is the first time I've seen enough of you online at once for me to have to scroll on the roster to see more. Wish I could stay up to play more. We back?

Midship BRs. That's my jam, son. Game is peer hosted despite countdown timer, guess that's not a reliable method. Teammate glides until wall and lags out after getting two kills. 4 vs. 3 bloodbath ensues and BR hit registration is still wack with the exception of the top player's glorious host BR reaching out with those cross-map hugs.

Forgive me if you've mentioned this before, but, have you verified under Detailed Network Statistics that it says "Your network is behind a cone NAT"?

On the Network Settings page, go across to ‘Test Multiplayer Connection’. On the following screen, Hold LT, RT, LB & RB all at once, and see what it says for NAT. I've heard of rare cases where it says you have an Open NAT on the main page, but does not actually have a cone NAT.

lol I'm 12-3 carrying scrubs on my back on Warlord BRs and the game decides to end 26-28, fuck this I'm going back to Battlefield.

My NAT is open. That said, your NAT being restricted would actually make you more likely to wind up on dedicated servers since NAT status primarily affects peer to peer connections.

I'm actually the guy who did the research on the Xbox One UPnP NAT bug and the system displaying an incorrect cached result for the NAT setting. Even with the full evidence and detailed network logs of the UPnP daemon I published, Microsoft hasn't responded to myself or others who have attempted to contact them. :(

Edit: Decided to try Halo 1. Teammate wasn't there, other teammate quit, then I quit and it ended the game prematurely for everyone because the game was peer to peer and I was host. Unreal.

Does the universe hate me, or are reports of this patch "fixing" the game greatly exaggerated? I'm honestly not even trying to be negative here, I iust want to play some good matches of classic Halo and have fun!

In particular, the player's shields are a bit snappier; an important thing to be aware of when timing attacks. If you trade shields with an elite and you both have to take cover, you might have a window of opportunity.

Makes sense. Thanks.

Do you guys all use standby? I recently switched to just energy saving mode since literally the only thing standby mode is good for is a 30 second faster startup

I do.

Faster start up and updates when not in use.

Instant resume and "Xbox, On" doesn't work without it.

What the heck? My chosen emblem doesn't even exist anymore after the recent update. What's that about? Why are they adding and removing emblems?

Oh damn, then I think I used some of your findings to fix my network up when I had UPnP problems with my original router. Thanks for that

I switched to Instant On due to the UPnP/NAT bug with Energy Saver. Don't use resume or really play much these days so it's not a big loss.

Team Ball on Lockout. Close score, but unfair teams due to lack of skill matching. Still had fun though, everyone was trying and ball stayed in Green for a while. Things got intense. Just because Walshy gets away with running it there doesn't mean it's a viable strat for four randoms...

I got in my swing though and carried. Had one pretty decent teammate who I watched do a 180 while weak and BXR someone who was trying to assassinate them after coming up Lift. It was glorious.

Guys, I actually had fun! The game worked and it was fun!

Popped on briefly for BTB.
Got matched in about 90 seconds.
H3 Avalanche BTS.
Begins with a Warthog betrayal and a single lag spike.
Game ends with us losing 84-85 despite me getting a sweet rocket triple kill in the top middle stalemate area in the closing seconds...

Verdict: One of the best MM experiences I've had with the game, seriously.

If BTB continues to play like this one game, I think we have a winner here.

What is the bug exactly?

Had a BTB in Halo 4 and I have to say those MechSuits are the definition of anti-fun. It completely ruined the game playing against it because ours died quickly due to an idiot player and there's just rampaged the entire game.

When coming out of standby in Energy Saver mode, the Xbox One doesn't do a complete UPnP port mapping request (auto port forwarding basically), it just does a simple, "hey, I'm here" instead of a "hey, I'm here and I need this." However, when it turns off in energy saver mode, it does send a "hey, I'm done with this" to the router and tells it that it can delete the port mapping.

So when using Energy Saver, your first boot up, the full one, works properly and gives you a real open NAT, but it's a crapshoot after that. Combine that with the bug where the network tester just shows the result/status of the last test if it's still in memory, and you've got a ton of people out there who think they have open NATs but actually don't.

It's a huge, huge bug, and it's been known about since a month after launch if you Google it. Somehow they haven't bothered to address it though. I doubt the system OS network engineers are even aware of it, because it should be a fairly straightforward fix to force the full routine. I'm guessing the bug reports aren't being understood by the front line people that take them or are getting lost in various channels and aren't propagating to the people who can fix them.

I can dig up the thread, summary, and network logs I made on here tomorrow morning if anyone's interested.

Yeah... I really don't know what 343 was thinking with that one.

Without proper skill matching and ranks, I can't see myself playing more than a few matches per session. I get bored after about half an hour. Hopefully I won't have to wait until April.

Thanks. I have found sometimes my NAT will randomly turn to "closed" while in standby, and open in Energy saving mode. Maybe this is different from what you are talking about?

Game seems to be working better, but I can't seem to finish a kill. Most of the time it feels like dedis, but maybe they really improved P2P, either way I'm assuming my shot is off. I didn't realize SMGs took almost a full clip to kill, I need to find where the BRs spawn on all of these maps.

And what is with the rampant quitters and AFK players?

Played a bunch of games today. It worked. That's about all I can say. I wish marchmaking would work quicker, but at least it wasn't too long between matches, and a match always stated after every time I searched. The Party system works perfectly from what I can tell.

It still needs work though. After over 100 days of broken marchmaking I really won't be 100% happy until marchmaking is super quick. Right now it's just kinda not too long. Also there are still issues where the game will randomly end. I had one match end randomly. I also experienced a crash at the start of one match, but that was my only crash of the night.

I wish halo 3 wasn't so popular in btb, I really don't like playing it at all.

Need those Matchmaking preferences that you can check off before you even enter into a playlist. But, with the lower population, that would just fuck up the search times even more.

The BTB I played yesterday had a serie of quitters. In the end it was 4x3 players in the game.

Quitters are really becoming a pain in the ass in this game.

This game is great because I can play one flag CTF on Zanzibar, followed by Stonetown. What a country

The game is practically Halo: The Zanzibar Collection. Last Resort appears in 50% of the H3 playlist vote screens; Zanzi and Stonetown are heavily weighted in BTB in my experience.

Stop playing Halo 2, game's a turd

The Mech spoils Ragnorok.

In a BTB voting lobby yesterday. 7v7, goes down to Bomb on Coag, H2C or Flag on Ragnorok, H4. H4 edges the vote. Two players instantaneously dashboard quit. Another immediately follows, presumably after seeing those two leave. Shall I stay for a 4v7 flag game of H4? Nah. So the best the remaining players got to play was 3v7.

Some people will religiously quit Halo 4. For others, it might take all their might just to entertain the notion of playing Halo 3 when they didn't vote for it, and if they go one flag cap down? Errrgh can't be bothered to try or maybe they'll AFK and go for a piss or straight up quit.

Quitters are really becoming a pain in the ass in this game.

No skill (or even exp) ranking penalty + no quit deterrent/penalty x a Halo game being voted for that a player might not like = No fucks given when it comes to quitting

And really, there has to be responsibility from 343 for the lack of dedication and passion that is evident in the makeup of these playlists. You'll never eradicate quitting absolutely but the amount of care players show towards the game is a reflection of the care invested by 343 into this product: very little.

I feel like CE Heroic is pretty much the perfect difficulty. ODST on Heroic came close. CE Legendary is way worse than Halo 2 Legendary by pure virtue of how hard it is to cheese segments, though. In Halo 2 you can skip a solid 40% of the entire game if you try hard enough. I think the thing I had the most trouble with was the ending of Two Betrayals where you've got to get a Banshee in that huge Covenant encampment.

Maybe it's just because I've played CE the most of any of the campaigns - but Legendary on CE feels like easy mode. Much easier than Halo 2.

Just keep the ghost from the part before, press jump in the ghost to move up his nose to bring it up the small wall that should keep you from bringing the ghost to that fight and drive on the right side all the way to the banshee without shooting once

I personally feel like it's a good mix length per mission, good sandbox utilities and enemy health values / AI patterns. I feel like Reach is practically perfect from an enemy perspective on Heroic, but the player feels so weak in it that it's hard to enjoy it as much as possible. Being able to have CE-style settings with a floaty jump, movement speed, etc. in Reach's campaign would be great.

I think part of CE feeling easier now does have to do with it being around for so long that people know most of its ins and outs, though.

It's my first time playing Halo campaings, so I have not even played Halo 3 and 4 yet, except for testing. I'm almost ending Halo 2 campaing, and until now, I can say that Halo CE was quite more fun to play, specially against the Flood enemies (I play it on Normal btw, except when co-oping). The weapons in CE just feel more "impactful".

Wich are the favorite campaings generally speaking? I think I've read couple times that many believes Halo 2 had the worst campaing, and the best MP.
