Nintendo closed Club Nintendo and said the new version would be Fall 2015. Now they say They are developing a new membership system with DeNA that is coming Fall 2015.

So... that answers that

I was at the Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto when Nintendo announced its going mobile. This was destiny.

The idea of a proper account system that can accommodate both mobile and consoles makes me very happy... but I'll believe it when I see it.

In order to create completely new game experiences for smart devices, all Nintendo IP will be eligible for development and exploration by the alliance.

Finally fans will get a new metroid and f-zero

Nintendo and DeNA also plan to develop an online membership service that is accessible from smart devices, PC and Nintendo systems, such as the Nintendo 3DS portable system and the Wii U home console. The membership service, which is targeted to launch in the fall of 2015, will be built on DeNA's extensive experience and capabilities in online membership services.

Now, all is left to be done is a Nintendo Steam Machine and a Nintendo smartphone/tablet.

Hope this is a joke. If not get help please. whatever the outcome... it is just a company.

Well its not like this is going to stop Nintendo from making their usual games.

My family just stole my entire fortune from me. This just makes my already unstable emotions worse. Trust me, if I do decide to off myself, it won't be for this. It'll be because I just lost everything I've ever worked for.

Yissss it's happening! Hope it turns out good for them.

Well, this isn't certainly helping my unstable suicidal tendencies. Can't wait for the smug people to come out of the woodwork and scream how doomed Nintendo is. Fuck. Maybe I should just off myself. Doesn't seem like nothing in my life is going positive right now.
Holy shit man, calm down, Nintendo is not doomed neither are they only going to develop mobile games. They're following the money, it's for the better because it keeps your favorite company healthy and able to make more good games. Also, you need to talk someone about your mental situation, suicide is not the answer, seriously.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
TOKYO, JAPAN - March 17, 2015 - Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7974) and DeNA Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 2432) today entered into a business and capital alliance to develop and operate new game apps for smart devices and build a new multi-device membership service for consumers worldwide.
Leveraging the strength of Nintendo's intellectual property (IP) and game development skills in combination with DeNA's world-class expertise in mobile games, both companies will develop and operate new game apps based on Nintendo's IP, including its iconic game characters, for smart devices. The alliance is intended to complement Nintendo's dedicated video game systems business and extend Nintendo's reach into the vast market of smart device users worldwide. Under the alliance, DeNA will also be able to strengthen its gaming business at a global scale by leveraging Nintendo's IP. To ensure the quality of game experience that consumers expect from this alliance of Nintendo and DeNA, only new original games optimized for smart device functionality will be created, rather than porting games created specifically for the Wii U home console or the Nintendo 3DS portable system.

Honestly, it sounds like Iwata's mentioned plan.

Plenty of life to be lived even if starting from scratch.

Interesting. I guess as long as it doesn't impact their console output I don't really care what they do.
I just hope they get rid of Friend Codes and Games tied to Hardware.
Its 2015 man, both of those are gone.

The only problem now is that accounts are stuck to the hardware.

Dude/Dudette. Yeah it kind of sucks. But as said by the English press release Nintendo is going to continue to create premium experiences for consoles and won't port games to mobile.

They'll still make awesome games like Mario and Zelda.

I would just stay of gaming sites for the next week or two if it's bothering you.

Besides Splatoon is in two months and Zelda this year. You have to experience them.

Yay, Nintendo characters and IPs being prostituted is all I ever asked. It gets harder and harder to be a Nintendo fan every day.

I'll eat my hat if Nintendo has that level of success on mobile.

Agreed. Considering the mobile industry is $20bn in a year at the moment. It'd be quite an undertaking.

Alternatively, Pokémon did $1bn from October 2013 to December 2014 on the 3DS.

Yeah from the looks of it. Leveraging their IPs into a broader audience (mobile) to get more people into their dedicated platforms have been their plan as of late. Should be interesting to see what kind of games this partnership will provide.

Surely actual Nintendo properties in the app store is an improvement on knock offs of the same? And it's not as if Nintendo are dedicating internal resources to this anyway.

It's a huge win for gamers and Nintendo. Quality mobile games and more money flowing to Nintendo. Win win!

You should be rooting for them to stink. If the games are good and become billion dollar hits Nintendo will go full on mobile and never look back.
That will never happen. If anything it'll help strengthen Nintendo's core business. Of course money matters, but going full on mobile isn't gonna make them want to stop making console games. They'll just to do both.

I don't want to jump to conclusions about this, but um, yeah. I'm not very optimistic about this or the future of this partnership.

so are we panicking or not.

I have my paper bag ready and everything....

No need to panic. It seems like this is an addition to their business, not a replacement. Also buying 10% of the shares of that company is fucking insane and will make them a lot of money,

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
As long as they only release titles like Pokemon Shuffle then it's not a big deal to me. I'm sure any mobile titles will also come to 3DS.

Iwata has already said that they would release phone software that supplemented their console games, it's not going to replace them. Like Amiibo it's easy money.
