Just please for the love of God don't watch Apocalypse Zero or Eiken.

If you need to watch something from the list watch Mad Bull 34. It's downright wholesome compared to the rest of this shit.

School Days into Madoka?

There is only so much darkness one anime fan should watch at one time.

Wait, is Madoka dark and depressing also? Should I check another box off that list instead first? I watched the first episdoe and it does nto make any sense at all, so far, so I'm moving onto Episode 2, unless I should look towards Kato. first. I could use a really good "fell good" love story after that other crap, lol.

First and foremost, I just want to say screw you Schadenfreude, AnimeGAF for making me watch this series. I could thank you for making me more battle-hardened and for helping me build a few experience levels from this sick, demented and twisted world of Anime by watching this, this, this monstronsity, but I cannot....

TBH, you wanted a show with sex, jealousy and a circle of emotions and SD fits those like no other show I know of. Sex in particular is not common in the relationship oriented shows.

Madoka is a grim and severely depressing show.

Watch Toradora if you want a well executed feel good love story.

I dunno about Apocalypse Zero, but do watch Eiken. It's quite good.

Feel good love story? That'll be Madoka Rebellion. Be sure to check that one out if you can after seeing the TV series.

Feel good love story? Whisper of the Heart, I guess. But it's a movie so it's depending on whether you can get it first.

I know, I know, but it was already done and I was just waiting for the plot twist from the normal everday teenage drama film it started out as...

Uggh, maybe I'll stop after this second episode then, I don't know if I can take all the depressing stuff right now.... Besides, watching the dungeon areas reminds me of watching an Acid induced trip into someones dreams.... They must have been on something while designing that. The end of School Days wasn't depressing, it was just, disgusting......

I dunno about Apocalypse Zero, but do watch Eiken. It's quite good.

Yeah, I looked up some images from Apocalypse and the "art style" I saw definately told me that that one would be a hot mess... and Eikan, WTF is that.... all I see in Google in BOOBS, Boobs everywhere..... WTF is that?

Maybe next time you'll actually heed my warning, eh. Don't follow up with Madoka. It is a damn good show, but it is also a very grim tale. Same for Shin Sekai Yori. Hells, even Katanagatari is merciless at certain points, but not to the same degree.

Time to go for something on the other end of the spectrum.

No. You need to see through Episode 3 at least.
Mirai Nikki is a pretty feel good love story.

You guys need to know when to stop. No, he does not need to see episode 3 right now. Especially right now.

I remember one of the first few posts I made in AnimeGAF was me asking for a good anime comedy.

People recommended me things like Gintama back then.

Nowadays, I'm scared to wonder what I'd be recommended had I asked that question as a newcomer today.

We've been pretty good about not giving out troll recs lately, at least until today. It's nothing like it was a few years ago where all you would get is School Days. Nowadays doesn't really apply when it was significantly worse in the past.

Unfortuantely, neither of these are on Crunchy....

I haven't pressed the screen to start it. Something tells me I should wait until I have a shoulder to cry on, lol.

Well, I guess that leaves two on my list of recommendations to jump to... Which one should I start now that may have a good story to it, (that's not dark as hell) maybe a love story and some really good characters?

The two remaining:
Shin Sekai Yori (from the new world)
The Irregular at Magic High School

Which one is a good oen to jump to before I enter the "no-turn-around" zone in Madoka?

I watched through the first 10 or so episodes and started to get all introspective of myself and my behavior from years and years ago now (yes, I'm getting old) and said; $hit, this dude is just like me my last year of H.S in being focused on nothing but getting the goods, when he had a perfectly good G.F already that would have done anything and everything for him. He should have just been more patient with her.... From there, it gets darker and darker and darker down that notorious rabbit hole. I mean holy crap, this guy was like a damn rabbit, literally... Then, the plot twist and the ending, my lawd... I kind of called it as you saw the character progression in Episodes 8-11, but still, daaayyummm, some crazy out of teh woods crap between the harem and the rest of them... That ending is something out of a Stephen King movie, I mean, like sick, twisted, demented and just oh-so wrong.

In summary, the several hours I spent watching this series are hours I can never got back and damn, I think my world is now tainted.
So yeah, thanks for the great experience Anime GAF, may you all be forced to endure this torture in the future if you have not already. I will certainly, eagerly, recommend this show to any newbies that come by this community, as well as, any of my co-workers that want to take a peek into the Anime world. This certainly makes a great "entry-level" anime experience for them to witness. I feel better about myself for enduring this series and having witnessed that ending, which is pure, cinematic genius..

now, it's time to check another one off that recommendation list, of to the world of: Puella Magi Madoka Magica

I'm not to keen on the whole middle school age kid thing as more than support characters, but it appears this one is highly regarded around here, so I'll give it a shot.

Of course

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part III: Rebellion

I don't think I could have asked for a better ending. Firehawk wins again.

This movie sent shockwaves through animegaf. It was amazing.

I never liked Madoka, I thought it was okay. Episode 10 was a nice episode however, but I never watched the films. Even so, I still ended up buying one of those big Ultimate Madoka figures :$ Fuck.

Understandable. That is an absolutely astonishing figurine.

The problem with Nisekoi is that there should only be two teams in the first place, #TeamChitoge and #TeamOnodera. The show got frustrating when all these other people showed up.

But really, when you think about it, it shouldn't even be two teams. It should just be one team, #TeamOnodera.

I knew somebody had common sense.

Guys, I'm looking for shows that begin with C and ends in e. Any suggestions? Doesn't have to be one word by the way.

I didn't watch Irregular but it's widely regarded as a bad show.

Oh please, no need to be dramatic. He was just talking about the "great experience" and wanting to recommend it to his friends to get them into anime.

But here, while we're on the subject of looking for shows on the genuinely light hearted end of the spectrum and also available on Crunchyroll :

Little Witch Academia
Humanity has Declined
The Eccentric Family
Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun
Inferno Cop

Hey, some people give good recommendations, and then people don't listen. Just like those threads in OT asking about advice...

The problem is only some people give good recommendations. The way I see it, with all the attention Cross Ange is getting, I feel like the number of people giving good recommendations here is in a decline of some sorts.

We've been pretty good about not giving out troll recs lately, at least until today. It's nothing like it was a few years ago where all you would get is School Days. Nowadays doesn't really apply when it was significantly worse in the past.

And there's The Third Girls Aerial Squad characters setting pictures

white hair, purple eyes, maid outfit. Best girl spotted!

Tessa from Full Metal Panic is like, the least busty female character in the series and is also American.

'Course Melissa is also American so she kind of tips the scale back to even, so to speak.

Tessa is just the greatest!

All of these are great picks as well. I'm especially a fan of Haikyuu and Ping Pong (My number 1 and 2 picks for AOTY 2014), and Kyousougiga and Yozakura Quartet. The first two aren't "exclusively" light hearted but the moments of tension and self doubt brought on by the character often made the peaks of those shows that much more satisfying. The latter two are really just fun rides.

Irregular is nothing. If you want a great show that explores the special relationship between a brother and her younger sister, you need to watch Oreimo. (In all seriousness, the show is legit funny.)

Of the above, I'd highly recommend Nozaki-kun, one of the funniest shows I've seen.

Miami Guns:

Well, wasn't this a lost piece of turn of the millennium ephemera and in spite of some elements that ragged on my nerves and also this series being a burn victim of the dawn of digital painting (I don't think I have watched a series yet that has used early all digital painting that doesn't quite ugly today yet) I rather enjoyed this. It isn't a great work of art and the protagonists are pretty blatant Dirty Pair rip offs but this was still an enjoyable romp of wackiness and parodies and metatextual humor. Not going to be for everybody considering how grating Yao can be a lot of the time and I am still deciding how I feel about George and Anthony, and Juilo could go fuck right off, but I still earnestly liked this. Indeed, this series is one of the first I can think of where my opinion of the anime has gone up considerably after seeing how much of shitpile the manga was.

Good that you recognize Miami guns for the brilliant piece of comedy that it is. I recommend it!

Great Teacher Onizuka 39-41

Onizuka literally shrugged off an explosion of a derelict American bomb that he was holding in his hands. O_x

This was a pretty decent arc with highlight being the last episode. Loved the horrory bits there. Though, I'm not sure if I can, even with that tragic backstory, buy the transition of Anko from a severe bully (that drove Yoshikawa to attempting suicide) to a love struck idiot. I also really liked the touching upon the internal dynamics of Onizuka's class, something they've shown too little of so far.

By the looks of it, Miyabi is thankfully not completely on Onizuka's side and the last episodes will focus on that mysterious past teacher, that supposedly was the reason for her behaviour. Which is good, I read in recent LTTP thread that the anime stops abruptly so I was afraid they were never going to finish that particular plotline.

Yeah, I'll go back to Madoka, it might be a good one for when I'm having a bad say, or I'm angry, it could help drawn out RL emotions, ya know, It would be a good diversion as long as it is a good story as has been described.

LOL, I'll watch a little more of Irregular until it gets either boring or gross... Shark had some good recommendations above (well, on the outside they look innocent enough, but we'll see, lol)

Ah my fault, forgot to make the S2 addendum. I see making 7th episode pants related is sort of tradition of theirs.

Great Teacher Onizuka 38

Onizuka uses his own class as a slave labour to look for a legendary treasure but finds only American bombs and ire of his students. Good thing best character Kanzaki is to keep him in check. With Yoshikawa and Anko getting separated from the rest of their crew, the bullied x bully love affair is totally happening now.

FYI I think you aren't too far off from the point the anime goes off by its own with original content. Not many love it. The manga continues strong.

Totally innocent.

I mean with shows with characters like these :
Jinrui-wa-Suitai-Shimashita-Robot-Bread.png

What could possibly go wrong?

Seriously though, they're fine. Humanity has Declined is probably the "darkest" light hearted comedy on the list but it's still a really fun watch just to see how far they mask a bleak depiction of the world with comedy. Madoka is a cute world with a familiar magical girl concept masking a brutal and dark drama. Humanity is a post apocalyptic depiction of the inevitable extinction of man told in a deliberately cute and bright world and playing itself out like a comedy.

It's great.

The Irregular at Magic High School Episodes 1-4

Honestly, it's been pretty good so far. There is a lot of Log Horizon in it's tone and presentation, (outside of the world the stories take place), but the action, pace and tone of the show are really close. Tatsuya, with the glasses and all if very technically sound like Shiroe as well. The only part that is a little off-putting so far is this "forbidden romance" crap, but I'm sure there is a detailed explaination for that as the series goes on...
