Highlights:
AItKjn4l.jpg

Yuri Kuma Arashi PV1 | PV2 | PV3
Probably smut which is a good thing and iIt’s Ikuhara which is probably a good thing. Even if it misfires, it’s sure to be memorable!

7V04Ut4l.png

Doamaiger D - PV
I have no idea what this is about but if it airs in 4:3 I’m going to lose my shit. Fuck yes.

Ml3Skwnl.jpg

Death Parade - PV1 | PV2
Sometimes one notes a travesty occurs in this medium and that was Death Billiards being limited to a single Anime Mirai OVA. Somehow, this wrong was righted and we’re now getting a full show out of it!

EmMhnH9.gif

Dog Days’’ - PV
Fluffy tails with a side of effects animation if the past two seasons were any indication.

NQi9wU7l.jpg

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders 2 - PV
Home stretch time now that we’re in Egypt. Payoff should be great given the care David Production has demonstrated thus far and how well the source material ends. We’ll also finally get to do some direct comparisons to the ‘90s OVA!

Q5lSNcvl.jpg

Rolling☆Girls - PV1 | PV2
Premise sounds dumb but the PVs make it look fun and something that doesn’t take itself seriously in the least. Could be good!

bCBQzwbl.jpg

Junketsu no Maria - PV
Hey hey, Goro Taniguchi is back directing something. It's also by the Moyashimon guy so this is our secret backup plan to saving anime in case Yuribears doesn’t work out.

wRJ3V6Zl.jpg

Yoru no Yatterman - PV
Muromi-san’s director is behind this one so here’s hoping it’s half as well animated at that show. PV has a lot of promise!

kNYimPb.jpg

Shounen Hollywood: Holly Stage for 50
First show was one of the better ones no one watched. Here’s hoping the second continues being great and maybe gets some people to go back to the first.

fQ7HV1ol.jpg

Koufuku Graffiti
Shaft food porn that wonzo wants added which i'm only doing because of that pic. hnngh

0C6MnkMl.jpg

THE iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls - PV
Just including this given the rumors of what would happen to me if I did not..

Notable shows returning:
Cross Ange
Garo
G.Reco
GBF Try
Log Horizon 2
Parasyte
Ronia the Robber’s Daughter
Shirobako
Your Lie in April
Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road

Was your favorite show not included in my increasingly lazier OPs? Good.

Please find below a potential resource post for future threads. If I was better at design, I'd make something far less ugly.

Online Resources

GAF's very own anime recommendation threads!

So you're probably wondering: what anime should I watch? We aim to point you in the right direction with these general threads but if you ever want specific recommendations tailored to your personal preferences just ask away in the thread.

NeoGAF Top Anime List --RESULTS--
- While this poll is from 2007 this is still a damn fine list, especially the top 20.
The retro, classic, nostalgic, unmissable anime list thread - A great resource for those looking for classic anime. Titles covered here range from the 60's to the early 90's.
Lesser known Anime from the 2000's: Because they still make great anime
- For those who haven't watched that much anime you may wish to start you journey elsewhere as this thread largely covers titles non-mainstream titles that haven't received enough attention.
The Metalist - A giant and unwieldy list of lists. I can't vouch that all, or any, of the threads listed here contain any useful information whatsoever!

NeoGAF Anime of the Year Lists - Because popularity matters

While popularity isn't a guarantor of quality, it's certainly a useful indicator. These threads aren't worth reading simply to see what anime ranked where, but to read the thoughtful reviews written by Gaffers.

Sakuga - Resources that focus on the art of animation (sakuga)

List of Sakuga Anime - Self explanatory. Remember, the focus here is on the quality of the animation, not necessarily the story.
Sakuga: The Animation of Anime Panel - A 16 part series of videos that serves as an introduction to the concept of Sakuga. This involves a general overview of the subject, an overview of different styles a detailed look at specific animators. A must watch for anyone interested in animation.
BlueSakuga's page features an excellent collection of MAD's, videos that focus on hihglighting particular animators or techniques.
Sakugabooru - A collection of sakuga, in gif and webm form.
Sakuga Spreadsheet

Anime Blogs

There's a million and one anime blogs on the internet, but most of them aren't worth your time. Here's a snapshot of blogs that you should check out.
Anipages - Easily the best blog for those looking for discussion about the actual art of animation. The author of this blog, Ben Ettinger, has a such a comprehensive knowledge of the field that can generally recognise who animated a scene simply by watching it.
anime year by year - A rather ambition project by ex-gaffer Tamerlane. To use his own words: "This blog is a history of anime, year by year, combining historical background and aesthetic interpretation. There will be a post for each year discussing the merits of specific anime as well as general trends of the industry in depth. This is a constant work in progress, meaning old posts will still be updated as I watch new shows, learn new pieces of contextual info, and change my mind on shows I’ve already seen."
Golden Ani-Versary 1963-2012 - Another year by year history of anime, except that in this case each year is written up by a different writer. As you'd imagine, this means that the quality of the content here is fairly uneven. It's still useful in so much as it gives a general introduction to what came out in a given year and why it mattered.

The Business of Making Anime

Posts and features which focus on how anime is made.
The anime production line - A really great post by Ben Ettinger which gives an overview of how an anime is actually produced.
The Anime Economy
- A series of ANN features about the business reality of producing and distributing an anime.
Anime Sales - An up to date guide for about sales figures for anime DVD's/BD's actually mean.

Generic Anime Resources

Anichart - See when the next episode of a show will air in Japan.
Catsuka - A French language animation resource.
ANN - The most well known English language anime resource. While their coverage is truly extensive the quality of their reviews is questionable and their encyclopaedia is not always accurate.

Podcasts

ANNcast featuring Chad Kime (Genenon/Pioneer) http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/anncast/2009-12-03 and the ANNcast featuring Robert Napton (Bandai Entertainment) http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/anncast/2013-02-27 - These podcasts provide a perspective of how the NA market used to be from the 1980s (Napton) until the crash where Geneon went out and then when Bandai left the market in 2012. They're good resources to see the past of the NA anime market.
Bravo Whiskey Cast - Featuring AnimeGAF's own firehawk12!
Anime World Order - While this isn't updated particularly regular it has a great back catalogue of shows, especially for older anime.
Aya Suzuki Interview - The Pegbar and Grill podcast (a podcast that focuses on interviewing people who work in animation) where they talk to Aya Suzuki, a English/Japanese animator who worked on The Illusionist, Wolf's Children, The Dream Machine and The Wind Rises, among other things. This is probably one of the more informative interviews I've had on what it's like to work in the anime industry as it covers stuff like working hours, pay, working conditions, work flow, staffing, skill expectations etc etc.

Anyhow, thought it might be fun to toy with the idea of New Year’s resolution nonsense (past the universal one we all share of watching less anime) and having folk picking some backlog stuff to finally get to this year rather than putting off for one reason or another. More than likely it’s something popular that might engender some discussion rather than people talking past one another and, frankly, deadline pressure doesn’t hurt. I wouldn’t get too involved though given how life can throw one a curveball nor would I expect everyone to post about every episode watched but hey, there’s still good stuff for most of us to watch yet.

To get us started, I took an informal poll of some people to help serve as an example. Something, say, like one long series, a couple short series, a handful of movies, or some sort of combination would be ideal. It’s not meant to be a burden but rather that extra push to chisel away at the lingering part of the ol’ backlog.

I'll keep it at that to not overburden myself.

Currently reading: Jonathan Hickman's Fantastic Four/Future Foundation run (really fun!), JMS' Spider-man run (gonna bail out really soon, sucks!), and other loose Marvel greatness.

Looking forward to: Agent Carter and the return of Agents of SHIELD.

To-Do List: Build RG Zeta; finish Valiant Hearts, Dead Rising 3, Wasteland 2, Ground Zeroes Side-Ops; play Shadowrun Dragonfall again to experience Director's Cut content

Tragic victim of fan death
Tales of Zestiria: Shepherd's Advent

For some reason the dog days picture took a long time to load ... and when it did...

Narag , i won't say much ..but this picture ....fell odds somehow...

A new thread for a new year. I'll probably be spending most of the anime season tackling old school classics (Megazone 23, El-Hazard) modern classics (Spice and Wolf, Steins;Gate)... and Durarara S2. Let's do this.

I'm wondering if I should re post my thoughts of the last episode of Mazinkaiser here? Seeing as how that ended up being the last post on the fall thread.

the manga's real good so i think it's ok to add it!

That reminds me...I think it'll be similar to what happened in the case of Planetes, so to speak, in that some episodes will be almost exactly like the manga, but others will either turn out completely different or at least come across as a "remix" of the original material. It is based on a short manga after all, not one of those adaptations of long-running shounen properties.

I'll be joining Dresden for VOTOMS, and I'll probably try and watch all the Mushishi I've yet to see (S1 3-End, S2 second half, both specials).

I thought you had been quiet lately.

It all started with seeing a copy of Warren Ellis' Doom 2099 Complete Collection on a tray in the library. That led me to check out the comics section I've never bothered with before. And that was like discovering that the local libraries here are basically like a free physical Marvel Unlimited subscription. That was my December! RIP.

Nothing about bears.

I'm personally looking forward to Milky Holmes TD (which just debuted today), and Go! Princess Precure can't be overlooked. Not to mention KanColle.

Tales of Zestiria: Shepherd's Advent

Oh, I forgot this was out.

Hmmm....I think I'll hold on watching this until the NA release of Zestiria. Right now feels a bit too early for me.

Tragic victim of fan death
The day ufotable starts sucking is the day that anime dies for me. I'm glad Zestiria looked great. The fight scenes were also good! Praise the Shepherd!

New stuff I'm planning to watch;

Koufuku Graffiti
Tokyo Ghoul S2
Yuri Kuma
Aldnoah.Zero 2
Death Parade

Other than these I will check for impressions for the rest of the shows this season.

Cool. New thread!

After spending like 3 months watching all of One Piece from episode 1 to current I'm looking forward to diving into the Winter season and watching some Fall shows.

Unfortunately doesn't look like theres much I'm interested in this Winter. Really looking forward to Aldnoah S2 and Durarara (how the hell is this not mentioned in the OP smh).

Why is the show calling Rolling Girls? What are they rolling?

rip shaftfoodsmut u wur not worthy for the op ;-;7

I'll have to watch SHAFT's food anime, won't I?

Also, KyoAni's music anime is going to be this season or the next one?

I think I'll try joining Mature in finally finishing Hyouka and getting around to watching Wolf's Rain. That ED has tempted me for too long!

Sailor Moon Crystal EP 13

Too many kisses.

Endymion's friends need more screentime and speaking roles. There the ones I will miss the most if this this arc is truly ending immediately.
