[Aprill Fool]The Battle for Middle-Earth III: The Battle of the Five Armies announced

I've seen worse fakes, but the "press release" contains sloppy grammar, there's no dev team named, and there's an ESRB rating on the page (which a 2016 game wouldn't have).

Battle for Middle Earth was fantastic! The story modes were pretty fleshed out for RTS games. The online multiplayer with 3v1 sieges and so much variety in the races...just great design. It was also surprisingly easy to play on console, as a kid who didn't have his own computer at the time.

The one thing I want them to really improve on is the AI. Playing bot games was no fun because the AI did nothing but send 1-3 units to walk into your base and do nothing else. I distinctly remember just whittling down enemies with my squads as they mindlessly marched towards my buildings, completely ignoring my units.

Great game, great multiplayer. Hope it's real!

April Fool's is the worst. The "jokes" are almost never legitimately funny and almost always "I wish this was real, fuck this" jokes. Hell they're not even jokes, just an excuse of a day for people to make cruel teases. Serves no actual funny purpose, and this is coming from a guy who loves comedy.

Fake as fuck.

The screens are very telling as well. They look like a mod for BFME1/2 not models from a generation of new hardware.

Compared to a custom model for BFME

The greatest April Fool's joke will be the jerk-ass who actually decides to announce something on April Fool's. (So Nintendo's already out in front.)

How is this a joke?

I imagine Sony getting in on this with a The Last Guardian re-reveal and then tweeting out, "LAWLZ, jk jk. More Killzone coming Spring 2016!"

Like, I know people that are really into video games can be entitled twats, but trolling them with fake announcements of games some people probably wish for is baffling.

Pretty much. While you can make an actually funny April Fool's joke, 99,9% of the time it's just a lie with no punchline.

Gaming-wise they're generally only good if they're reverse AF jokes, i.e. where you announce something unlikely sounding that actually happens to be true.

Another problem is that the misinformation sometimes sticks around for a while or pops up again later completely outside the context of April Fools.

This is why I don't like April Fools...the shit that happens in the game industry around this time is not funny, just seems like publishers act like big assholes to their most devoted, and often ignored fans. Except at this time where they can play a prank on them, and laugh.

In these types of April fools its not the joke that is funny but peoples reactions to it, the angst in here goddamn priceless.

I've personally never taken pleasure from another person's angst or suffering. As a person who was bullied a lot as a child, I feel like finding pleasure from another person's misfortune to be wrong in any context.

The publisher had nothing to do with this, it's just some kid.

April Fools' is low key 'test the waters for hype' day.

Who would really have wanted this game though? I love the series but The Battle of the Five Armies was a simple skirmish at the end of the day.
