Dark Souls II Sold Over 2.5 Million Units, Dragon Ball Xenoverse Breaks 2.5 Million

Congrats Fromsoft on the Dark Souls II numbers! Finally giving the game a chance with Scholars and it's definitely a really great game and well deserving of good sales. March/April has pretty much been nothing but Fromsoft for me :3

What a stupid thing to say. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's great.

That said, I think DS2 is a pretty damn good game (especially with the new changes) and it should get more love from the hardcore Miyazaki fans, of which I am one. DS2 isn't as inspired as the other games but it's still a hell of a lot of fun. Also, it feels a lot like a Kong's Field game, which Is alright with me.

Xenoverse should be 2 millions, not 2.5 though. Still, vdry good result for a (seemingly) very good DB game! Outside of Steam and Japanese sales, do we have other actual sales data, though?

It's opening week in the UK was 15-20k. The previous three DBZ games opened at 5k each. It also seems to be doing quite well on PSN in the US. It debuted at #2 in February, only trailing Dying Light, and it's number #5 in March. DL dropped all the way to #18 for March.

Xenoverse isn't that good, it has a bunch of problems. But it still managed to be fun which is more than can be said for some other games. A sequel could improve on things in so many ways.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Ah, right, we had UK sales too...but, for a game like DB, sales are probably much bigger in other European countries (anime based/inspired games tend to sell better outside of UK). Certainly, being that high on PSN in the month after launch seems pretty positive.

Xenoverse hits that sweet spot of allowing fans to be "apart" of the universe. It's crazy how far a little customization can go. Watch a naruto xenoverse or a one piece xenoverse with customizable characters make boatloads of money

Storm games already sale over a mill each time. A xenoverse Storm will no doubt sale over 2 mill easy.

Very happy to see Xenoverse selling so well. Here's to hoping they don't fuck up the sequel by removing the story or something equally dumb.

Absolutely amazing to hear how well Xenoverse is doing, especially given it's obvious lower budget and shorter development time. Hope Xenoverse 2 realizes the huge potential of the first game, Gohan style.
And doesn't completely fail to do anything else of consequence, Gohan style.

Would be good if other anime properties went the Xenoverse approach too. I don't even like Naruto or One Piece, but I'd happily buy a game to be my own ninja or pirate.

A sad day for anime licensed titles. People poo poo CC2's epic and flashy Naruto games, but cheer for a broken game like Xenoverse that doesnt even have good production values and has way worse combat? Its not even anywhere near the PS2 era DBZ games, not even 1/10th.

What, right now, is broken in DBX?

I like how you had to specify "right now".

As if i owned the game for that long!

I got fed up with crappy connection issues and infinite combo exploits the first week and a half. Atleast i don't have to go online with CC2's games to enjoy myself in the single player(although their storm online multi is obviously broken shit as well)

Damn good news about Xenoverse. It's the first DB game I've bought in about 10 years and I had a blast. Yeah, there's a lot of areas that they can improve upon, and I really hope they do if we get a sequel.

As for Dark Souls 2, very happy with its sales, i'm sure Namco Bandai are. I wonder if BB will ever reach 2 mil?

To get anywhere within reach of Dark Souls 2's sales would be an achievement

Well deserved sales for both games, though I'm particularly pleased by Xenoverse's success - I was not prepared for how awesome it ended up being.

I'm really hopeful that the DBXV2 will be a revelation, even moreso than the first.

Probably, in its lifetime. It came out in the perfect time, when the most popular console so far this generation has been a little starved for new games lately. It helps the game is amazing of course

Namco is going all in on PC tho, can't believe we are getting a one piece AND a saint seiya games on steam soon lol

I imagine the co-op loot gameplay was also helpful, since that's been very popular lately with Borderlands and Destiny.

I'm wondering if they are working toward launching another anime and/or manga run. That seems like something a business would normally do.

Theres a new movie coming out.

Goku's hair is blue, and freeza is back and is now gold.

Goku's new form is called "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"

It looks terrible. I wish they would reboot the whole fucking series. Honestly.

Well deserved, now give us a T3 sized roster and moves and we will have the GOAT DBZ game

Honestly I would rather they keep the roster not much larger than it is now and instead gave us a more awesome story with even better missions, production values, improving on the loot system, balancing and making game systems deeper, etc.

We need a One Piece and Naruto Xenoverse type game.

I don't know about One Piece, but Naruto would be pretty awesome in that style.

The character creation is, I find, a really big reason why DBXV is so fun. The loot, levelling, and story stuff are what keep you there. I'm sorta surprised it took so long for this winning combination to get dreamed up.

Now Namco Bandai, give me a G Gundam Xenoverse type game.
I need it.
Gundam would be awesome, too.

Xenoverse: It only works for everything.

Hunter x Hunter would be pretty awesome with the Nen powers aswell, don't really see that happening though. The two franchises you listed would be very appropriate though, the power sets mesh very well to a Xenoverse style game.

2 mil lifetime? Definitely. Good word of mouth and a likelihood of strong legs will easily push it to 2 mil lifetime. Probably won't be able to match DS2 due to a lack of PC, but 2 mil lifetime shouldn't be hard. As I've been saying for a long time now, Souls really isn't as niche as it's fans keep insisting it is.

That said...

Stop being wrong about everything :p

Wow, I didn't expect the DkS2 Steam numbers would be that big of a chunk from its total sales.

PC gaming is dead.
