"Elder Scrolls Online's PS4 & Xbox One client exceeds the 50GB bluray disc size"

I'm not sure this is really news.

It would be if the entire game was on a disk, was bug free and (anything other than an MMO) playable offline.

I have seen a lot of people actually describe it that way. I'll just have to see for myself.

Everyone seems to have their own idea of what TES ought to encapsulate.

I think they've done a pretty good job of carrying over and adapting a lot of TES concepts and mechanics to work in a MMO context. The fundamental character building and customization is very freeform just like the single player games. You'll still be prompted to select a class when creating a character, but that's just for choosing 3 class-specific skill lines to invest points in. The vast majority of skills and abilities are class-agnostic, can be learned by anyone and you're free to follow or disregard whatever RPG archetype you want. Just because you roll a Templar class doesn't mean you have to follow the paladin/cleric template you might think of. You can still make it a sneaky spellcaster, and supplement that with werewolf or vampire skills or whatever the hell you want.

I'd rather buy the disc and download 15GB instead of 65.

Actually, i'd rather they just put it on two disc.

I dunno if I want to even get the $20 upgrade package now actually.

I'm more concerned that they specifically structured the character transfer thing to be available only for a month, and not while the game is actually available to play/be seen. The transfer is one way and you can only choose to do it sight unseen.

These guys are fucking terrible at managing this game, IMO, even though the game itself is pretty decent.

Thanks for that. Sounds good.

You realize they aren't transferring anything right? They are copying your account, you don't lose your PC account in the process.

It's just a one time offer for long time PC players to get the game for $20, you just happen to get your PC account copied also. Better than spending $60 that's for sure.

not surprising since the pc ver is 60 gb+

Oh yeah. I forgot it was a copy and not a transfer.

Still, asking me to spend money in a window deliberately structured to prevent me from actually *seeing* the console version first is pretty shitty, especially when they've explicitly said you won't ever be able to copy your characters after this window closes.

Looks like publishers are just gonna cheap out instead putting 2 discs in the case.

It's not any different from virtually every other MMO on the market. Even on last gen, you had games like DC Universe Online needing to download a significant portion of the game even after doing the mandatory install. It's just the nature of the beast.

I still need to know one thing. Since this is being downloaded from a client, can I still put my PS4 in rest mode while downloading it?

Not necessarily the publisher's fault, I don't think either console supports the concept of an "install disc". All disc based games have the exact same content as the digital version, and that's what gets submitted by a developer to the first parties.

Well the back of my pre-order/retail box says the game requires at least 75GB on PS4, so it'll be very close to the PC release in terms of size.

Sure you can. Just make the second disk an install disk and the first one is the disk that stays in the drive.

That's not how these systems work. You need the disc to install the game, and after that, the Disc is only used to check for ownership each time you boot the game. The entire game is installed to the HDD.

And for MMOs, there's actually a really good chance that they're working on stuff that wouldn't be finished by the time the discs need to begin pressing. It's a logistical issue that can't be solved by simply throwing in another disc.

This is a dangerous precedent. As an online-only game I can see how they can get away with this, but I hope this doesn't spread to Single-Player-Only games.

This might make the nightmare of a disc only containing the folder structure, and Audio & Video, with the rest of the actual game in another 50GB Day1 Patch a reality. I can see companies like EA and Activision taking advantage of this by selling "Special Editions" which is just like the regular version, but with a 2nd Disc containing the actual game and a considerable markup.

Worst case scenario, $60 game disc only contains basic Multi-player, Single-player is sold as $60 Day1 DLC and is 50GB in size with the publisher stating it's sorry that they couldn't fit the entire game experience on 1 disc.

Yes. This is a an online game, so fine. Halo MCC only did it with multiplayer. But if this happens with offline games, im done.

Here you go! (It's a recording of a twitch broadcast)

EDIT: this is ps4 footage

That might make sense for the first couple of months the game is on the shelf, but after that, you're going to end up downloading more in patches and updates than you save by installing from the disc.

Yes, it's a shame that publishers won't pay for two discs when the costs are not high for an extra disc. Microsoft did the same thing with MCC.

II would bet it is because the OS cannot handle a single install split over two disks.

I wish the Xbox had an option to download games online, eben with the retail disc. I could definitely download a game faster than it currently takes to install the disc.

Give me that option Microsoft! What I'd give to preload Halo 5 and only have to pop the disc in come launch.

Yeah, I'm glad I don't have data caps too.

Heck, here's the data usage of JUST our Xbox One in our bedroom (from a week ago).

This doesn't include the Xbox/Playstation hardware in the living room, 3 gaming PCs, multiple smartphones, my laptop, or the Wii U......lol

I know for a fact that my daughter's room and Netflix streaming the Living room has to add a ton on top of that.

That seems really high but I guess Netflix alone can do that. If it was the system alone I would be really concerned.

Well I'm not buying it anytime near launch. At my current internet speeds it'll take a good 24 hours to download that, at best.

Maybe this fall when I move back into town and get real internet.

What's the consensus on ESO?

After I heard about the subscription fee I stopped following it. But was it received well? Any fun?

Release version was ass, however I've heard reports that Zenimax has been working really hard on it and it's now getting pretty damn close to being an Elder Scrolls game, online.

I don't understand. If you preload digitally, you don't even need the disc at all. And XOne offers preload for quite a while now.

He wants to preload the game already even if he is getting the disc version. So that he can play directly when he puts in the disc wich will work as the license.

Not a bad idea imo.

The bigger news is that I one of the links it says the beta for PS4 & Xbox One starts tomorrow. I am work, so can some one start a thread? That is newsworthy and needs its own thread for impressions etc.

But it will certainly install from the disc faster than a 50GB internet download? I presume it is the same on XOne as is on PS4, the disc installs in a few minutes, you don't even notice it installing in the background while you play the game.

Reading comprehension isn't your gig is it.

Source? Please list all XBox one Games that allow multiple disk install.
No need to be a dick.

Do you understand how patching systems work? Client+some data on disk 1, more content on disk 2.

Its a simple concept and we've been downloading additional content for console games and updates for a long time. The same rules apply no matter the medium the data is delivered on.

So... Why would multiple disks not work again?

Makes sense for an MMO, but I really hope that Sony and MS get over their pride and allow offline games to print multi-disc.

Especially since the games install to the HDD anyway. Nobody will be disc swapping.

Do games download the rest of the game in rest mode? Previously I've bought digital games and they've downloaded the amount so that you can start (icon on the homescreen) then the rest seems to not go anywhere in rest. Nor can you pause it as it's not in the download list. I really dislike the PS4's OS...

If that happens im done with consoles. Collecting games that doesn`t become a coaster after the servers are done means much to me, and im not the only one.

You're going to be very much in the minority on that one. I'd wager the vast majority of people are not concerned about whether a game they buy today will be playable forever, much less say, 10 years from now.

No on Xbox One its takes abit longer. Its just would make it easier. Having the full game already installed and when you put in the disc you cant start right away. :)
