A lot of confirmation bias and slippery slope going on there sir. You want to know the reason why everyone is giving MS shit? Because they deserve it and need their asses kicked. In the same way the market humbled Sony when they got too big for their britches with PS3, the market is doing the same to MS with Xbone and frankly, they deserve it. MS had been trying to get away with murder for years and when they tried it again with the Xbone, the market responded.
This is competition.
This is normalization.
Not the sales parity that people in here keep trying to prop up as the only answer to increasing lead between units for PS4 and Xbone. So no, people aren't cheering for the annihilation of MS. That's just a few hardcore fans. In reality, people want MS to get their heads out of their asses so that they can enjoy playing games again for the platform of their choice and not have to suffer through politics and back alley deals to do so.
As I said, I have no idea what the outcome of a poll would be, that's sort of meant to be the point of polls, and 10 people would be a bad sample size. I think the future of Xbox is MS's entertainment brand. I think they were even trying to make a push into the motion picture/television industry with it before things went south. I think Xbox as a brand now means entertainment services on WP, Window 10, as well as any other kind of entertainment hardware whether they are thin clients or not.

If it was 2013 and "the reveal" just happened I would totally get it. Wasn't a fan of their ideas either. But thats 2 years behind us. People got fired over it. Changes were made, new directions taken. The head did exit the ass as far as I am concerned.
As you said Sony learned a lot from the PS3 mistakes and PS4 is really nice. So it would be logical that MS will copy that process with their next system.

yes, PS4 sales are insane.
no, xbone sales are troubled. flat or down YoY in its second year is troubling. Underperforming to 360 at the same point in its life is troubling. The ONLY reason xbone isn't underperforming LTD is:
huge launch following an 8 year console cycle (thirst was real)
huge discounting during it's second holiday season ($150 off cash, up to $250 off including incentives)
360 greatly supply constrained during its launch and for its first 4-6 months
the first point was a one off bump, the second point isn't sustainable, and the third point just shows how troubling the numbers really are.
Wii U bad? No. But at this point pretty much smack between PS4 and Wii U.
I actually agree with many others.. I see MS leaving the hardware space BUT continuing the XBONE platform.. likely on PC/Surface or such. I would be shocked if there were another xbox console, but at the same time also don't think that's a bad thing. The PC is already supporting multiple ecosystems (Steam, Origin, etc). One more hardly seems unrealistic and will give MS a chance to focus on what works about XBONE (parts of the software/platform) and ditch the part they've struggled with for 3 gens now (hardware profitability, and outside of last gen, hardware sales)
Changes were made, however like that old adage goes, "You only have one shot at a great first impression." Granted, MS as reversed numerous policies under Mattrick and Spencer is trying his best, MS is still doing MS type things (Rise of the Tomb Raider deal) that has consumers in a tizzy. You also have to think, if MS was as good as you think they doing now, logic would say that they would be neck and neck with PS4 especially after the insane holidays season they had, but they aren't. Why would that be? When you can answer that, then you'll understand why it seems as if everyone is picking on MS (even when they aren't).

I might have to add that I own both X1 and PS4. last gen I had a 360 and shared a PS3 with my roommate. Maybe I am less emotionally attached to the console wars because I don't really care about exlusive deals and that stuff since it doesn't affect me (I can play TLOU and Tomb Raider anyways).
But you are right of course, Mattricks legacy still lives on.

Before I left the company in January, that is the impression I got, going off of all of the changes that have been happening. The landscape within Microsoft is changing, and their products are going to start reflecting that really soon.
Actually it really isn't selling well. It lost significant grounds in many markets. It is down year on year or at best flatlined despite price promotions that led to a 26% decrease in revenue. Sure PS4 is doing exceptionally well but these are just bad numbers for xbone even looking at it in isolation.
Well the person who was in charge of their gaming studios, the one that led the trend to the homogenization of their game output, is in charge now. in fact he was an important exec and no doubt played a part in creating the strategy for the original Xbone. Further he oversaw the launch of the console in China with the same kind of restrictions and focus as it was originally planned for the worldwide launch.

I'm sure we all had this panicking around the PS3/360 when the Wii was going bonkers. MS are following a higher trend than the 360, and that is good. Sony hit a massive fucking home run with the PS4, but it doesn't mean the One is doing horrendous.
We had all the Sony exiting the console race when the PS3 launched as well. People jump from one extreme to the other far too often.
This is coming from a PS4, PS3 and Vita owner. I do not own a MS console anymore after my 360 went out of action. A One isn't on the cards for me either as I prefer everything the PS4 does. Maybe once it is a lot cheaper - And there is why MS are trying to aggressively push the price down. To try and attract current PS4 owners and those parts of the market we don't tend to reach till a few years in when pricing has come down a lot.
Well that's an interesting development that they removed all mentions of Xbox from the windows apps, it makes sense for the preinstalled apps to drop the branding completely but I wonder what they are going to do with the service. They provide it on android, iOS, and the web too. They can't just call it Music app and Video app. They need some kind of branding.
I would agree with your statement if the kicking had stopped once Ms got the point. At this point everyone is kicking them while they are on the ground dying.

Probably Windows Music / Video (I guess ...). I think ppl were confused when they saw Xbox Music. It kinda implies that you need a Xbox or XBL to use it. A friend of mine got a surface and didn't even know he could access all the xbox apps, since he has a PS4.
As I said Xbox really is associated with "video game system" to the the vast majority of people.

It's in between 1-1.2 million (nobody knows outside of MS) shiped for 3 months vs Sony sold 1.7 million in 2 months
I think the problem is that this itself is debatable. The 360 had a very bad start and then picked up. The XB1 had a good start and is now slowing down quite badly.

This year is going to be very telling, Sony has already had the Order 1886, The Show and Bloodborne to help bolster sales. They also have a advertising deal with Star Wars battlefront and it also seems like they have advertising rights to Black ops III. This is going to be very hard to overcome no matter what they do Halo has been declining as a franchise and we have seen nothing of gears yet. In my Humble opinion Microsoft needs a really big get at EIII and they need to put on an amazing show.
Halo, TR, Forza. Probably more bundles and price cuts. What more would they need to do?

No, they are following a lower trend than the XBox 360. They just had a faster start. The streams will cross at some point.
I don't know something as far as time frame or potentiality. but I'm very confident that they are going to abandon the Xbox console. Well, maybe not abandon. If it makes them money they will keep it, but when speaking about promotion and market share push, that's going to disappear. They have other solutions to the problem whileaintaining a presence in the living room.
I'm pretty confident I know what their e3 "never been done before" surprise is as well. And yes, it's pretty big

Shipments might well be down a litte, last year they had the japanese launch and were still shipping basically all the could make, hard to tell if they can reproduce the number they achieved last year.

While there is no doubt that MS has cleaned up their mess ,they are stuck to endure that stigma throughout the entire generation ,regardless of what they can do .
For example PS3 and Sony also never fully got rid of the stigma of their early days .
People still vividly remember things like "599 us Dollar " and " get two jobs " years after Sony turned things around .
It is their black mark to bear .
What "never been done before" surprise? The only articles about something like that from MS that I can find are from last year.
