DriveClub PS+ Edition Has Been M.I.A. For 100 Days

PS+ edition never existed you're all being taken for fools. They didn't even try to release the PS+ edition at launch. They decided the game was too broken before even launching the PS+ edition, yet continued to sell the full version, that just seemed really suspicious to me. They knew before launch that the PS+ edition was never going to come out the same day.

At this point, reading this thread, it feels like people just want to see blood, no matter what happens. Sony and Evolution fucked up and it's the perfect opportunity for people to shit on them as much as possible.

I am all for people getting what Sony promised them, at the same time it's sometimes hard for me to grasp the outrage of people over a glorified demo that had a fraction of the game's content. I mean if we were talking about the full version of the game, I would certainly understand just how upset some people in here seem to be. I mean some people seriously still think Sony/Evo intenionally didn't release the game "because they should have kept their goddamn mouth shut and not made promises if they had no intention of fulfilling their duties" when the PSN+ version was actually accidently available for a short time before getting taken down.

This thread is also basically the shit pit for everyone who just likes to do some drive by posting or make some fun of Sony/Evo. I wish this thread was updated with what's actually happening in the last months:

- constant server improvements and some pretty big maintenances just in the last days
- introduction of the Startline tour that is basically useless to all current owners but totally makes sense for the PSN+ version
- menus revamped to give them a more fresh look
- Evo clearly mentioning news about the PSN+ version coming soon (thats why some people are guessing E3 or maybe at the end of the season pass in July)

This is still not a clear date, but there are more signs than ever before since the game broke down that point at a light at the end of the tunnel.

Also at the people getting mad over the suggestion of Shareplay/rent/get it on discount, no that's that no the solution to the PSN+ promise. And if you don't want to get it out of principle than that is fine. However if you were genuinely interested in the game, give it a try. I guess there are more than enough people here that would let people shareplay test it (which I have no clue of how well it runs).

The HK version that exists begs to differ.

If Driveclub PS+ edition is just a glorified demo and they can't even get that right then this is an even bigger fail if you ask me.

Basically the perfect example of people coming here.

1. Wrong without any clue.

2. Once again no clue, as the problem has nothing to do with the content but about the infrastructure/networking implementation to be able to handle a user increase by 10000%.

That was part of their plan, so they could say "Hey look we kinda tried".

£12 preowned in the UK, can't be much more in the US.

Sony, just put the full game on PS+ and make some money from DLC sales to all those getting the full game.

At this point, reading this thread, it feels like people just want to see blood, no matter what happens. Sony and Evolution fucked up and it's the perfect opportunity for people to shit on them as much as possible.

Or people genuinely think this whole situation is a real problem and are angry that after all this time it still hasn't been resolved and Sony/Evolution are failing to communicate at all with fans and consumers as to the status of this fucked up botched launch. So either their servers are complete shit or they've been deceptive or they're horrendous at communication. At this point, none are particularly good outcomes and all make Sony look bad. And they've earned that in this case.

I am all for people getting what Sony promised them, at the same time it's sometimes hard for me to grasp the outrage of people over a glorified demo that had a fraction of the game's content. I mean if we were talking about the full version of the game, I would certainly understand just how upset some people in here seem to be.

It's not a glorified demo. But reduce the idea however you want (as if that changes the problem?), it doesn't change the fact that obligations need to be met on a service when you promise certain features. The company doesn't get to arbitrarily decide never to deliver on the feature without rightfully taking tons of shit for it, nor is trying to diminish the value of the feature a viable outlook on the problem here.

I mean some people seriously still think Sony/Evo intenionally didn't release the game "because they should have kept their goddamn mouth shut and not made promises if they had no intention of fulfilling their duties" when the PSN+ version was actually accidently available for a short time before getting taken down.

If you're going to quote me, do it by name and refrain from pulling shit out of context whilst fundamentally misunderstanding the entire point.

My comment was not about that Sony/Evo "intentionally" didn't release the PS+ game (although they DID intentionally not release the PS+ game due to 'server problems', so I'm not sure what bizarre shit you're going on about here. Are you saying they unintentionally delayed the game? That'd be a pretty easy fix then!), but that if hypothetically they had no intention of fulfilling their promises then they should not have made those promises in the first place. The point being that Rapier and Sony have no right to diminish the anger people feel over a promise not being fulfilled yet after over a hundred days.

This thread is also basically the shit pit for everyone who just likes to do some drive by posting or make some fun of Sony/Evo. I wish this thread was updated with what's actually happening in the last months:

Driveclub is one of my favorite racing games of the past ten years. Sony/Evo fucked up, they made promises, they're horrendous at communication and they have yet to fulfill their obligations. Until they at the very least begin to open up the channels of communication again and let consumers know what is going on with the promise made, all anger aimed in that direction is warranted. Because it's their fault that people are in the dark when they have confused messaging which one day says the PS+ version may never see the light of day and then the very next day says no it's definitely still coming, we're working on it! It's their fault people remain justifiably angry.

I know more about the situation then i lead on, I was stirring the pot. I just don't understand why so many people feel the need to defend Sony/EVO. It has been a string of fails that have lead to the situation we are currently in. Its about accountability at this point. I could care a less if the PS+ edition ever comes out. I just don't want this to be the direction the games industry is heading.

PS My pot stirring has brought out all the flavor I see, thanks for making me feel special.

Just a guess, maybe it's less about defending Sony/Evo but more that people think it's a awesome game that more people should play.

Dude it's a free demo that has failed to appear, hardly anything worth getting upset over. I have no clue how anyone could begin to get upset over this, nothing was lost, nothing was gained. If it comes it comes out, if it doesn't then just buy the damn game if it's so important. Getting upset over this is a waste of time.

Sheeesh, Amir0x take it easy, you of all people should know they have cleared the channel more than enough times to get the point around. Just look at Paul Rustchynsky replying to people everyday on his twitter saying PS+ Edition it is still coming. Their facebook updates that say they are continually improving servers to prepare for PS+ Edition, 3 Executives apologizing for DriveClub launch (Shu, Jim and Shaun). Paul coming here to Neogaf to clear the air too.

You posting those links when articles always take everything out of context from one another when stuff like that always happens for example the last guardian hiatus

If they made a promise they will stick to it, promises don't have expiration dates even if it takes 5 years and they deliver. Are you really gonna complain about it for the next half decade?

Not a free demo, it was advertised as includes with a paid subscription to PS+. I'm not upset just disappointed that it's been dragged out this long with no clear end in sight.

The PS+ edition would be such a great demo for this game. I'm seeing it on PSN for €25 for Plus users, which is an attractive price, but I want to play the promised free demo first.

I don't think you'll find many people defending Sony or Evolution on this matter.

It is a shit-show. There is simply no debating that.

What people have been doing is trying to distil some of the over-reactions.

They are not really communicating (or rather are really poorly communicating), people have to go find specific people on twitter to see if they have confirmation it's coming, and there's been contradictory statements from sources before. But regardless, at this point it has been so long they need specifics. WHAT is taking them so long? WHY is this so hard? What is wrong with Evolution's servers/PSN that this cannot be solved after 100+ days? People want real answers. Just like with any actual problem, the longer it goes unsolved, the more specifics people want about the cause of this delay so that they can at least understand why the promises has yet to be fulfilled. And they are absolutely entitled to better communication on this fact after all this time.

Finally, people only stop complaining about problems when the problems are solved. There's no expiration dates on complaints until the problem is actually fixed. I love Driveclub, I own it, but it's fucked up how this whole situation went down and Sony/Evo deserve to take shit for it for the next 20 years if it takes that long to get fixed.

Failing to communicate? There has been a big apology from Sony and Evolution has every month repeated that they've been working on getting the PSN+ version out. For lots of signs actually pointing to the possiblity of a release in the near future, but let's just ignore that.

I did not name you because you were just the last to bring this kind of idea up, and it's actually been going though the thread dozens of times.

I agree this was just bad, and Ryan should have been much better briefed on a subject like this. His comments were totally unnecessary and just caused unneeded confusion since people will just read the orignal news but never the correction.

They should put out the PS Plus version and then immediately the next day release the full game for PS Plus members just for the laughs.

They would have done that anyways at some point but almost certainly yes.
I was previously of the opinion that they would release the full game on PS+, but I'm now thinking that the Startline tour, which was added in the last game update as the new introduction to the game for new players, has been included to provide an outlook of the other locations the game has to offer (rather than just India).
I see it as some kind of bait - see how good DC can be with all the additional content! - to encourage people buying something.

Giving people the full game (as in all of its base content) would certainly not be the best option for Sony to get some return on its investment, because there's already a lot to play with and fewer people would feel the need to buy more content.
Especially now that the remaining staff at Evolution Studios is said to strictly focus on a GaaS model: they'll need people playing the game to buy some content.

No. You don't understand at all. Because you said they need to stop wasting resources working on the PS+ Edition and release the entire game.

They're not sitting there making a PS+ Edition. It is made. They're sitting there trying to get the servers into a state whereby the influx of PS+ players can be handled sufficiently.

If they give the whole game away that's not going to change the need to do that.

It's worth adding that the infrastructure changes that would allow for a PS+ launch would - most likely - *also* allow for a smoother launch of a hypothetical DriveClub 2... assuming that's a notion that's on the table.

Yeah ... except that Evolution has been mentioning the PSN+ version every month in their patch notes. In the latest patch notes they even said that there will be more news on the release soon ...

That's true... I'm just really bummed out that they haven't released it yet. I've been tempted to actually go out and buy the game, but I can't justify it without car customization options that other racers like Gran Turismo, Forza, etc. have.

I don't see people wanting this type of specific answer with BF4, Sims, MCC and Unity? What do you want? A screenshot of their net code running the server?

The game works, Server run fine with 200k+ people on it, it's the features that are what is breaking the game, any additional influx of people playing the game (possible 10 million PS+ Owners) would break the game again via these features:
-Creating millions of clubs
-Doing billions of challenges
-Running on the Multiplayer Servers

Naturally Evo/Sony stopped people from downloading the PS+ Edition on launch because they saw that the features in DriveClub broke every time a new user joined. Their solution would be to strengthen the servers to support set amount of users doing these key feature to prevent what most likely will happen. Everyone downloads all PS+ games, people will play this the day it launches, they need to be ready. I'll give them time, but I won't throw shit at their face while they are at it.

Well I'm being a hypocrite here, but have to point out just blatantly false information.

MCC is one of the most universally complained about games TO THIS DAY about the issues with the game. A ton of people have asked for refunds, and it's pretty much strongly advised against buying this game.

BF4 had 10 times the userbase maybe even more than Driveclub did and even then it at least worked enough that you could get games in, albeit unstable and sloppy- Driveclub flat out never worked when it launched.

Unity had tons of complaints but again wasn't as severely broken as driveclub was at launch and again didn't have the same size of userbase.

The major thing on top of all of this, is none of those games were ever touted as a free game coming to you on ps+. I canot stress this enough- while it mentioned it wasn't the FULL game, sony basically pushed hard that it was only a few features away from the full game, and really used it as a driving force behind the PSplus ps4 marketing campaign. Whether it was effective or not... who cares? It was false advertising.

They should have never announced this version in the first place. Don't make a promise you can't keep. They would have so much less hate if they never even spoke of this shit.

with that said, I agree with Amir0x for once. They deserve the shit they get until they make it right because its been what, half a year? that's ridiculous.

Abandon all hope?
No

latest game update said:
» Adds the Startline Tour. All new players will now jump into a brand new Tour when they first play the game called Startline.
» The Startline Tour is available for free and features 11 events and 45 objectives. This Tour mainly serve as a varied and well balanced introduction to DRIVECLUB and is based on some of the most popular and entertaining events from elsewhere in the game.

There was also in game language saying you can play the tour even if you don't own all the tracks, which wouldn't make sense unless the PS+ version was still coming.

Giving the same BS server reason for past 6 months is really a disservice to the fan base. It's not like this is some indie studio of 5 members who need resources, but it's a studio backed by a multinational corporation who already gave them one extra full year and yet they couldn't do anything. Absolutely ridiculous.

? - the fan base is actually playing the game

He means the Playstation and Playstation Plus fan base. Not everyone sees this issue from the eyes of the DriveClub fans or Evolution. Some of us are just customers interested in playing a game that was promised.

A simple e-mail report to PS+ subscribers regarding the progress of Driveclub PS+, their current status on the release, and what challenges they are still facing regarding its release at this point.

As it is now, you get mixed messages, you have to hunt for the comments from Sony (even when they aren't contradicting each other), and this has gone on for so long that many have gone to assuming it's never coming. If you're going to mess up this bad, I think the least they can do is be a industry standard on how you respond to that mistake.

Amirox, just stop man it's really not worth it. I will never understand the defense force for this, but they will NOT let it go, it's simply not worth arguing.

I don't have any problem with the discussion ;)

What? People did want specific answers as to the problems in these games. Threads on GAF and other gaming forums were filled with specific pointed questions regarding the problems in these games, and we did end up getting some specifics on some of these games due to it. So I'm not sure what your point was unless you were trying to confirm that nobody is asking for too much here since it's been done before :p

OK, so if it's so simple where is their progress report on this issue reporting that these are the very things causing a problem to remain and that as a result it's not estimated to come for at least "X months or more"? I mean you seem pretty sure of it, did I miss the statement detailing these issues for Evo? If they say "well it's the way we handle Y feature and we don't know how to fix it", then they can have a conversation with gamers about how they need to release a version of Driveclub PS+ minus that feature or something. But this is going to keep being a longstanding issue for Sony and Evo until communication improves or the release finally comes out. It's just really been poorly handled.
