Playtonic unveils Yooka-Laylee (Banjo Kazooie successor) [Kickstarter LIVE - Funded]

You might want to mention that this is the BK spiritual successor in the OP. I had to google Playtonic to figure out who they were, tho I had a hunch by the art.

We've been following Playtonic for a while that is why it wasn't mentioned in the title.

Not that I care but if they are both female it would be pretty fun if they both are talking shit lol. Kazooie ribbing people made the dialogue in the games fun. I didnt understand before when I was a kid but when I played Tooie some years back when it came out on XBL it was the best thing ever lol

This got me thinking.

How would everyone want their voices to be? Would you want it to have voice actors or, like in Banjo-Kazooie, the sounds?

This looks great.

I always kind of struggled to see how they would spiritually recreate the characters of Banjo and Kazooie, but this is so much better than I expected.

My backing of the Kickstarter tomorrow is contingent on:

- Yooka Laylee Amiibo
- Yooka getting some articles of clothing like Banjo did
- Yooka or Laylee's gender being changed to female.

OP probably should have, but since GAF has been following this game since the original teaser, i can see why OP didn't mention it.

- Yooka or Laylee's gender being changed to female.

Im pretty sure #1 is one of their goals for the kickstarter, they mentioned Amiibos in the conference they had not long ago. #2 might happen since they have acknowledged the reaction to Yooka being naked in twitter. Finally, they have no official genders announced so far, so it's a safe bet at least one of them is female.

We? Not everyone can keep up on all gaming news, haha. I knew there was a BK successor in the works but I didn't know the studio's name. Either way, it WAS mentioned in the OP and I need to read more closely next time. :)

Well this just looks fantastic. Love the name, the characters look great and the snippets of gameplay look promising. And dat music.

Best thing to wake up to.

You'd only support a 3D platformer revival based off minor stuff like that? Reeeeeaaally?

why changed to female? Its not confirmed that both are males and from what playtonic has been tweeting it doesnt seem to be the case. IGN just assumed it

Found a new in-game shot over on Tumblr. Weird that it's not featured on IGN's article, I thought they had the exclusive scoop?

I like the vibes I'm getting from that short video.

Nice, I'm looking forward to seeing more of this.

It may very well be the first Kickstarter I end up backing.

Purely from a character design perspective, I might have thickened Yooka a bit, mainly in the limbs, to have him contrast from the bat a bit more. But all-in-all, I like the designs more than a lot of Rare's 90's stuff.

My main issue with Kickstarter is mostly people who make the games don't have level 1 done to show off. Seems these guys put in their own funds to make level 1 for a pitch video. So yeah, going all in.

Woah. Just looking at the different enemies in that picture there is variation in their expressions, and some physical differences as well such as some having a shorter right ear, and of course size with one on the bridge being bigger than the others. Also I think the two in "front" have different colored hair with one being orange and the other red, but it might just be a trick by the lighting. I don't know why I'm impressed by differences in cannon fodder enemy appearances. lol

The gender of the characters seems a pretty weird thing to get you to back it imo.
I don't see what is weird about it. Then again I am woman and I know how it feels not having enough positive representation in fiction.

It is minor for you, not for the other poster.

Ahh there's even a secondary strong-type enemy on this page

Does the gender really matter all that much? I don't remember the fact that Kazooie was a female impacting the game all that much. Just seems strange for it to stir up so much speculation in a game where you play as animals who look the same whether male or female. Weird that Playtonic is playing so much into it too.

Eh, I wouldn't really bite on the speculation if I were them, if anything if I saw this happening I would kill it immediately with a confirmation before it turns into a mess before the kickstarting even went live.
