If this game ends up lookin' like Mighty No.9....

tears of sadness will be shed

Well... it's not saying much, but the email I got about this yesterday did have Comcept inc attached to whatever this for today. Don't shot the messenger, I'm just adding stuffs.

And I agree, Mighty No.9 had some much potential and I donated $100 to the cause. Le Sigh.

Look at MN9, look at the budget they got, then imagine that money needing to pay for ten times the content--that's what your polygonal SOTN-like is gonna look like.

It won't be 10 times the content. It'll be 2/3 the content, copied and pasted across 10 times the space. IGA gonna IGA.

Even with a bigger budget, he's gonna budget. :p

I would hope he goes all out in this. Leave the copy/paste shit for enemies in a sequel.

Curious about what the higher backer tiers will be. This could really be one project where I donate a lot to help design a boss monster or something.

You just know he's going to have lots of enemies recoloured

maybe he'll flip the castle to double the map too lol

Get true ending by beating the game with all playable characters. Unique content for each playthrough consists of recoloured boss sprites and the castle being flipped along a different axis.

What are the chances there will be no new game? Something else.. Nevertheless looking forward to this.

Very low chance. Too many winks and connections that infer something notable has to be shown. Why is Koji Igarashi getting an eight hour event dedicated to him and him having nothing to show? Why fly and be in America for over a week meeting and doing things with people in the industry? Why the teaser site during that? And what is he going to Kickstart? An animation company?

If this turns out to be not a game, this will go down in history as one of the most wasteful teases and reveals in video game history. I would expect it to be so if this was Konami running the show.

Procedurally generated castle areas.

Recycled enemies.

Two protagonist going through the same areas to pad the length.

Rehashed art that borders on Konami suing Iga.

The name will be Igakumajou Densetsu.

And it'll be in 3D, with a KS budget of 10 million.

=P

Sword or Whip - A brand new groundbreaking digital card battle RPG from the creators of Castlevania - Coming soon to iOS and Android

You're a truly heartless man.

You even twisted it by pulling the "creator of Castlevania" card Igarashi often gets labeled as. This sounds so logical if this was from an AAA company in Japan today.

I only have two real requests here. A glyph system ripoff, and HD-like multiplayer. That'd be the perfect birthday gift. Don't let me down IGA.

So like this

:p

That's what ASW is capable of now with 2.5D visuals.
If that is your graphical high bar, you will be disappointed.

The aforementioned Contra and MN9 examples are better benchmarks.

Iga isn't with a big, established publisher anymore, so check your expectations accordingly, people.

At least they finally won't be able to copy paste Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night assets. Those sprites got as much use as Capcom's Morrigan sprite sheet.

I only have one request: a new igavania.

Anything else is exceeding expectations and is more than what we would get now that konami is konami.

Hell, he didn't even get big budgets to make Castlevania to begin with

That's what amuses me most here, that we might actually what Igarashi can do with a notable budget. He was able to pull out consistently functional and fun games out on an almost yearly basis: imagine what he can do when not given the poverty checks to make games.

Honestly my benchmark is Slain, it's nailing the Gothic look and varied enemy designs.
If this looks as good or better than that, I'll be happy.

The extra money will be offset by the fact that he doesn't have 15+ years of sprites to recycle.

Well, it's what i'd like to see it look like. I'd like to see any sidescroller have that look. But i'm not expecting it to hit that level. As others have mentioned, a sidescroller at that quality would likely be very expensive.

If it is going to be more like MN9 i'll be interested in seeing how much of MN9's underwhelming visuals are down to tech and how much of it is down to what I think is mediocre art direction. Castlevania is obviously known for having a very strong art direction, so I expect the same from this new game. Especially if Kojima is on board.

Wait what? Dragon's crown only had 1 million budget? No way that's true.

The place is mostly comprised of artists so it makes a bit of sense. Also they draw it in a way where they can reuse bits and pieces of what they've already created to minimize creating new animation.

Right, and he did lean heavily on reusing and repurposing classic assets to help with keeping that large gameplay world and cast of characters while helping to maintain the visual consistency across installments. This game is going to have to have a good starting baseline that can work with a lower budget and less staff than he is accustomed to having with his previous Metroidvanias. It's funny to remember so many complaints being made about that particular economy of production that allowed those games to continue to be made and made so often. Pretty easy to bitch and whine when you're spoiled with regular installments and take them for granted.

I thought Dracula X Chronicles was tremendously ugly, but at the same time I'd like this new game to look noticeably "different" from the last couple Igavania games. I feel like the new project might feel too similar if the graphics just try to mimic the last 6 GBA/DS handheld games.

Slain looks a bit sloppy imo. It needs to be more elegant.

The graphics remind me of DKC, where they converted 3D assets into 2D pixels. That and the movement is a bit jankier, which is fine, but it's no castlevania smoothness, like SotN.

I need a source, because *ANY* game, especially one with a retail release, having a 1 million budget is absolutely insane. Especially considering it took 2+ years from announce to release, which is a lot of time and 2+ years of salaries.

I'm pretty sure that was a thing for real

IIRC, George Kamitani spent long stretches just drawing everything himself because he couldn't afford to pay anyone else.

That is absolutely insane. Good on him, I guess, but wow. I hope he gets what he deserves.

Excited for the potential Not!Shanoa reveal, so listening to some OoE OST today :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCa2rEHSdEw&index=49&list=PL2DCDC5CD908248C6

Confession time: I never beat OOE, I have a save file right outside the last boss fight. Died like 5 times, quit, never tried it again ;_; My only castlevania shame. I need to replay them all again. Just beat circle of the moon on Wii U VC, started HoD, moving onto aria next.
