Was able to play for quite awhile, now I'm getting disconnected consistently. Not usually an mmo gamer but I'm pretty sucked into this one. Love the visuals, and the combat feels pretty satisfying. Guess I'll give it another go tomorrow.

Does anybody know the key for taking screenshots? I found a video where some dude prattled on for 12 mins about the golden ratio for taking screenshots in this game but didn't actually say what the key was -_- I managed to get into screenshot mode but no clue what key takes it. Any help appreciated.
Wow. That was fast. Oh well, I've been playing the Korean OBT since February so I'll stick to that one. Plus it's the version that will always get new stuff first. This is nice though for those that don't want to pay for a Korean account. Are you able to access the Japanese servers just by switching to Google's DNS or do you really need to get a VPN (only looked through the first few pages earlier). I might suggest it to some friends if they're interested in it.
That game has really a beautiful character creator.

Eh, I tried my best to bypass the strict VPN requirement but I guess I'll just stick to the SoftEther and WTFast combo afterall. I got the site successfully loaded with Hola in Firefox and managed to log-in and actually push the start button but when Pmang tries to launch it throws me a error message despite me having WTFast running too.
I guess Hola is unable to bridge the connection between Website --> Pmang --> WTFast :/
Ah well SoftEther isn't so bad, just annoying that I'll get kicked twice in the process
Aside from that, I asked earlier, is it normal that I have these squares with the English patch?

And the site now throws me a captcha again, presumely since I messed so much with it, let's see if I can figure this out

I actually cannot get it working with WTFast running. I just turn it off. I get a few hiccups here and there but for the most part it runs fine.

Same here actually, I followed the guide and WTFast and SoftEther don't seem to cooperate, the game never hooks into WTFast or outright never launches, anyone knows what's up with that? I'm using the WTFast 4.0 beta for reference :/
EDIT! HA got it to work!
Here is a little guide:
1: Start SoftEther and connect to a Japanese VPN
2: Start WTFast select Tokyo JP4 as the server, but do not click "Start Game" yet
3: Start Black Desert and wait till you are at the title-screen
4: Disconnect from SoftEther and close it
5: Wait till your normal internet connection is restored
6: Go back to WTFast and press Start Game and let it do its GPN thing
7: Once WTFast is done, switch back to Black Desert's title-screen and start!

Hrm, I'm stumped. I was able to connect to the servers through SoftEther last night without any issues but now I just keep getting Error 2 (Protocol error occurred. Error was returned from the destination server.) when trying to connect to any of the Japanese servers, but other servers work fine.
Maybe they're getting hammered at the moment?

Also possible that they changed up how it connects but maybe. It's highly dependent on the VPN connection you use as well. Pick one with less connections and a higher speed. I found anything under like, 50mbps to be unacceptably slow and terrible.

Try UDP instead of TCP when SoftEther asks upon connecting, that helped me.
I'm surprised about the filters options in this game, there are so many, it seems Instagram.
I´m playing very little, and the best ping I could get was ~250, last time was 300.
For now I tried the warrior, the soceress and the archer. The three classes feels diferent from each other. May I would to see more the agro managment this game have, but it´s promising.
However I got one letdown with the character creation, I was expecting a lot of haircuts, and even more options and I feel it a little shorter, may this was the big hype I got. Even so the character creation is one of the best I have seen in any mmorpg.

Yup, I tried this shortly after asking and it fixed it. Happy to finally have everything in place but now I just hang at the main menu with "failed to connect to server." Was given the opportunity to input my family name once but that hung too.

Glad you could get over that part atleast, about the disconnects, try my WTFast tutorial from above, it should stabilize your connection.

Thanks for this. I was able to get into the character creator twice after my previous post but following your guide, I was able to get in with minimal lag. Huzzah!
Well I was pretty excited about this, but I'm getting errors on almost every connection. There's only one that works, and it gives me some sort of error after trying to link my account. Something about 24 hours. I'm guessing it's some spam error, and if I could use an alternative VPN, it would probably go through.
Aside from that, I wish I could read Japanese. Definitely one of the harder languages to wrap my head around.

We should really get a GAF guild going, even with the English patch the game is pretty overwhelming.The 24 hour error means indeed that too many people used your particular VPN server, try another one from the list if you use SoftEther.

That was a poorly written comment of mine. I should've said that only one of the VPN connections is actually allowing me to go through. Every other Japanese connection is giving me error 13 and error 1. I've tried both UDP and TCP on all of them, as well as running it in admin and without. No idea what the problem is, but the one that works is the one that gives me the spam error. I'm just assuming that all of the servers are being hammered, and I'll probably try again later tonight or tomorrow.
Still somewhat excited. I remember first hearing about this game 3 or 4 years ago. Maybe even longer than that. It'll be nice to actually see what it is. Also, thanks for the advice.
*edit* I decided to just look up error code 13, rather than continue banging my head against the wall. Turns out it was just a firewall issue. I should've figured, but it seems like it's all sorted out now!

Yeah, I ended up doing that.
WTFast is too much hassle. The vpn itself is fine and fast.
I'm not entirely certain what server people are joining, and a quick glimpse throughout the thread didn't net me any hits. Looks like we're both on Caltheon for now. Hopefully that's where everyone else is as well.
anybody using able to use the vpngate even after disabling avg and disabling avg firewall?
someone mentioned i might need to uninstall avg but that doesn't make sense
tested the vpngate on my work computer which doesn't have avg and it worked, so i'll try this again when i get back home :<

I hate that I'm playing the Korean version knowing I'm going to play the US one, but I guess it's not so bad having characters on the version that will get updates first.

Yes, the zip file is also required.
It's actually an installer, not a downloader.
Have you tried other Japanese IPs from the list?
You can also try connecting via UDP (the bottom of the two).
Does the fact that i am using wifi is affecting the situation ?

I thought I would have to download the whole 18GB (2+16) with VPN on, and thought this would not work for me because I already had two VPN disconnects when downloading the small 2GB file.
But now I found out I do not have to have VPN on when downloading like described on the reddit page you linked in the OP...
Can't wait to try it out this evening!
