Sony: "No concerns" about any lack of PS4 software this Holiday

This is probably true. Most people I know at work and school are super excited and getting ready to buy consoles for Battlefront and COD. That's a great lineup to them.
Yeah, exclusives only matter to the hardcore gamer anymore.
Most regular gamers are most excited about the third party games and just buy a system where their friends play on which is PS4.

Which is also why the Wii U is such in a bad place because it cannot compete since they don't have as many third party titles.

I do wonder how different some people's opinion of the game would be different if it were a Nintendo game. There seems to be an unreasonable expectation for Sony to make huge western AAA exclusives or they don't count.

If Nitendo's holiday lineup was a timed exclusive indie game and a 3DS remake, people would be going absolutely nuts over it.

I have no problems with a Tearaway port. I guess I just wish that we were still at least getting Uncharted 4. But I would rather buy it when it is ready.

What about Rime? What about The Witness? What about Drawn to Death (lol- that's probably years out actually- Jaffe certainly takes his time)

I don't know- it seems the strategy to release your heavy hitters in the holiday season is getting antiquated. MS is still doing it because that's the only time of year they give a shit about, but I think Sony is happy releasing solid games all year long.

If you really look at what MS has, it's not that impressive either, and certainly won't pull the masses away from the huge MP games that will be available. Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, Battlefront, and COD:BLOPS2 will be the big sellers. Forza has become nothing more than a yearly EA sports type release. It used to be special, but now they are just milking it. Tomb Raider is timed, so no one is going to go out and buy an XB1 for it. Halo is their only big game, and even then, it's got a lot of competition, and the dev has a very poor track record.

Sony is just fine where they are, although Tearaway and No Man's Sky are weak. Mostly because NMS is built on a pretty big promise which they have to deliver on. UC4 will sell twice as much in the Spring as compared to the Holiday where it will have so much competition. Smart move all around. Crossing fingers for an UC Trilogy remaster though.

2+ years in and studios are still "getting to grips" with the hardware? Kind of seems ridiculous especially seeing as the hardware is nothing out of the ordinary.

Yeah but, for studios that have made their own engines, it still takes a while to convert that engine made specifically for a certain console or set of consoles to run on a completely different architecture.

Do we know anything about differences between Vita vs PS4 apart from extra content?

At least half of that game was played using the back touch screen, and, considering there's no way to do that with a Dualshock 4, I imagine a lot of stuff needs to change.

it's not just developinmg a game on existing tools though, a lot of sony devs build their own engines from scratch, it takes some time.

Unless the whole Direct is just Reggie and Iwata farting around, I don't think Nintendo can have a bad E3 in people's eyes. It will take another E3 2008.

Last gen, Sony took a lot of risks with the PS3 first party line-up and delivered early on. Why is this not the case this gen yet?

The few risky projects that came out so far have had a lackluster critical and commercial reception. Except for Bloodborne (I consider it risky because it makes drastic changes to the Soul series combat mechanics).

It's more these aren't the games that people will get hype about. I consider tearaway one of the top 5 games of 2013 but it isn't the sort of thing you sell systems with.

That's not exactly true.

What will a family looking for children friendly games choose: PS4 with Tearaway or XB1 with Halo/Tomb Raider?

As is the case every year, people are just going to buy Call of Duty, Asscreed, etc for both consoles. Obviously Halo will do gangbusters, but Sony doesn't exactly have anything in their IP library to match that anyhow.

They should focus on bundles, pricing and ads this holiday.

Even thought I'm still hyped for it, I know what you mean. Let's hope HG came up with a way to prevent PvP from breaking the experience.

The fact there's 18 quintillion planets and each player starts on a different random one then the chances of meeting anyone, even playing the game for years with the whole world population playing, is highly unlikely. It will be so rare that I think when you do meet another real player it will be quite an emotional moment and hopefully killing other players is not what will be on most peoples minds when they do.

Hardcore gamers don't care about indies!!!! Those are not real games!!! I'm a hardcore gamer I know what I'm talking about! Hardcore gamers love playing ALL the games but Indies sure ain't games!

Sony studios must really have been caught by surprise about the release of their own console.

He is not playing list wars, he is just naming two random games coming out. He could have said Until Dawn and Rime instead. Makes no difference what he said, the bottom line is wait for e3.

The Last Guardian. It's going to happen. They will end the E3 conference with its re-reveal and then it will have a fall release date. BELIEVE

Pretty sure Sony have nothing of note for holiday 2015. It's a shame but I feel it's pretty obvious considering how proactive Sony are at getting exclusive deals with multiplatform titles for the holidays.

The sad fact is that a(n) (expected?) price drop will do more than a bunch of exclusives come Christmas

Its not a great thing to not have games coming out for that period, but I do much prefer having first-party games spread out over the year than cannibalised by Christmas third-parties.

Spring 2016 seems to be the new Christmas looking at all the revised launch dates/periods...

Fact that they felt the need to address this signals that they realise the delays are getting serious now.

Because only like 10 of us actually bought them.

You're right in that, they did take a lot of risks on PS3, it's just that those risks didn't pan out.

I'm not sure why they had to include pve gunfights tho.

Oh I am not saying they can't.
I like when developers do it.

I was mostly just saying if you look at the top 10 games list it is dominated by Activision, EA, and Ubisoft. As long as Sony makes the PS4 the lead platform for those third party publishers, it is going to win the console generation. The amount of exclusives they do will not change anything in the long run.
It is a lesson Nintendo is learning the hard way with the Wii U. The 3DS was still salvageable because of Capcom and Level 5's support.

People tend to forget this part. Most of those games failed to sale enough to become franchises.

What's with the need for a holiday lineup when their have been game releases all year? Just because you put out a game in November, doesn't mean it is automatically more valuable than a game in February or March. Why do people feel this way?

Because MS have brainwashed everyone into thinking there's only "one season".

The Japan releases are looking good with Dragon Quest Heroes and Disgaea 5 confirmed. Persona 5 would be the icing on the cake.

I am expecting more than last year personally from each company except maybe Nintendo because Smash was a huge release.
Oh sure, but I guess I was thinking in terms of first-party.

Gran Turismo. It's bigger than Halo actually.

After reading this I'm more worried about Sony's lineup for the second half of the year than before.

Yep, this almost confirms for me that they practically have nothing we do not know about already. They are of course not worried about that, because they have all these damn marketing deals for the upcoming 3rd-party blockbusters. They just do not really care for their exclusive lineup anymore as they did with the PS3.

So the PS-exclusive games I'm interested in (for the 2nd half of the year):

- Persona (since I live in europe, this could very well be a 2016 game for me)
- NMS (time-exclusive. I also think this could be a 2016 morpheus game, but he at least still mentioned it for 2015)
- UD
- Tearaway

UD even is the only real PS4-exclusive (and I'm not sure yet if it will be a good game).

Hopefully they'll at least release the Uncharted collection + U4 beta...hooray.

60% is other content. Trackpad is used

I think their point is "If I didn't like/wasn't interested in Tearaway Vita, what makes Tearaway Unfolded interesting to me ?"

I think the answer to that is: nothing.
They'll add content and obviously some mechanics have to be different but the core experience will be the same (again, that's pretty obvious)

I think that if someone didn't like Tearaway /wasn't interested by it in 2013 then you wont be interested now either.

On one hand you got gamers that are tired of the same games every year and want something different, and then on the other hand you got gamers that hate delays and are tired of waiting for new games. Then you have cases where those cases are both on the same hands. You gotta love it.
