Witcher 3 PC Performance Thread

The camera still chugs when rotating for me. I think they did something with shadows? Med-high made no difference previously, but there seemed to be a fps cost now (not at PC now to test more).

Game is so fucking good, though. It feels fantastic to be in that world...they really do the books justice. The combat music makes every encounter so much more exciting, and I actually dig the Witcher investigation stuff. GOT(past 5)Y so far.

Did a quick comparison of performance in a scene I've used for that previously.

Looks like 1.03 did improve the performance for me a bit - I'm getting 34-35 fps in this scene while it was 32-33 in 1.02. This may be due to them enabling AF 16x for ground textures instead of me forcing it for everything though.

No change if I switch PhysX to CPU explicitly, same 34-35 fps. There are some cloth in this scene so I would say that there is something wrong with you results if you get a boost from CPU PhysX.

That's on Win81x64, GTX970G1, 3820K, 2560x1600.

Tried it, did not notice anything different.GPU usage stayed the same.

Well, that's two people proving me wrong. I'll chalk it up to placebo effect and variations in environments. Thanks guys for checking it out.

EDIT: Nah, I'm right.

I can't believe the chugging in FMVs is as noticeable as it is. I can't rember ever seeing stuttering FMVs. Is it because I'm playing on a HDD?

The CPU PhysX tweak did absolutely nothing btw. Don't bother.

I will say though I am enjoying the sharpness slider bump in this patch. I shall keep it. :)

Something, Something they'll patch it later down the line.

Just like they did for previous versions of Thw witcher series. They end up making changes to the engine and putting out updates.

They did not enhance The Witcher 2's graphics. What leads you to believe they will do something of that nature for The Witcher 3 ?

Hmm.. I think there was talk about some other software either here or in one of the other threads yesterday. Pretty sure it was not xpadder. I was going to give it a go, but forgot about it and closed that tab and can't find it again.

Edit: Found the post. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=164412567&postcount=3822

Simple solution for QUICK SAVE on GAMEPAD:

- download antimicro (it maps gamepad keys to keyboard; opensource free)
https://github.com/Ryochan7/antimicro/releases

- set xbox guide button to F5

have quicksave via gamepad :)

im using dualshock4 (ds4tool) works same way

if you have xbox popup after pressing guiden button - just uninstall xbox app

GTX670 here, running the game on Medium settings, performance seems ok but unspectacular, seems to hover around 30, but maybe dips below, hard to say, I choose 30fps lock, thinkijg I might try Unlocked?

Also is there any point to OC'ing an i7 4770k? Any benefit to this game or other games around right now? I am always wary of overclocking and not being sure if I am running it safely enough.

Can someone PLEASE link me the post that linked a reddit thread that gave instruction on how to rebind the center Xbox One Controller button to quicksave? It's annoying me to no end knowing the fix is out there and my Google-fu isn't good enough to find it.

.
I have done this using Pinnacle Games Profiler. It is awesome.

In fact I took it several steps further, so I now have:

- press Xbox guide button for map
- hold Xbox guide button for quest log
- hold left analogue stick down for quick save (this was one of the only other buttons that is not already mapped by the game, so made use of it!)

Works flawlessly and has improved my experience gaming on PC with an Xbox controller immeasurably.

EDIT - if anyone wants my PGP profile just shout. Although it's pretty simple.

EDIT 2 - profile is uploaded here: https://mega.co.nz/#!UhZwmaII!cPZrcnfgRcM42bWqAxY-N3YpmpAG21l98r4KeL4vTA4

I would say no. Your bottleneck is probably going to be your GPU, not your processor.

Yeh I am hessitant to OC my GPU, I was more wondering if there is anything out there that is hitting the CPU limit right now or would see any mprove, ent from it.

Sounds like leaving the CPU stock is fine for the forseeable future.

I'm running the same card on my backup PC. I set everything to high, shadows and foilage at medium. HBAO+ and all postprocessing on. No hairworks. Got a pretty solid 40-50fps and even 60 at times. Rarely ever drops below 40.

for those going for 30fps on mid-end cards (2 gig 680 here), after the patch I can now crank up stuff I couldnt before and still mantain rock solid 30fps

basically have all on Ultra now. hairworks off.

Hmmm? Might have to turn fraps on and check this out myself.

As far as I know, the only thing that you would need to OC your processor for is High Def Dolphin Emulation, and only because Dolphin only uses two cores. There's really nothing else a 4770 can't handle.

Jesus... I used to say how strange 60fps looked to me and how pointless I thought it was. Guess I've gotten used to it because I just tried locking it to 30 and I just can't do it. I would rather loose some detail than that fluidity.

Im the same way, but no matter what I lower I cannot reach steady 60fps on this game no matter what, and the drops annoy me more

first game im playing at 30 and im actually surprised at how easily I ended up overlooking it and not caring that much

So just played a few hours of GTA V, no issues at all.

Launch Witcher 3 after the new patch downloads, instant nvidia driver crash as soon as I talk to someone.

Things are going well.

Uggh that camera rotate judder. This is the first game, no matter what I tweak, I can't get rid of it.

I've tried everything to fix it. Two different external frame limiters. Locking at 30. Locking at 60. Unlimited. Every conceivable internal and external vsync. Maximum prerendered frames. Hours wasted last night.

I hope that CDPR fixes it, it's ruining exploration for me. Every time I'm walking and move the camera to look around it judders and makes me crazy.

It also gave me a performance boost. Now I can pretty much play with most stuff on Ultra (except for foliage and such), hairworks on and 30fps (780Ti here)

I'm getting random from drops since the patch, 60fps most of the time but then my frame rate will suddenly start dropping for no apparent reason, this didn't happen before the patch.

That's amazing! I'm not sure I'm changing my settings, I guess I'll take the extra performance so that I never drop below 30, even when shit hits the fan.

Is it possible your getting 59hz instead of 60hz? I often have this issue with games that are running 60+ frames but I'm still getting stutter.

Way to fix is either create a custom resolution of 1916x1076 at 60hz and select that in game, or sometimes borderless windowed mode will work.

Yeah, I tried borderless window as well.

I am already running a custom resolution of 1919x1079. Let me see if that is set for 59 or 60hz when I get home... although I'm almost 100% positve I have it set to 60hz

Got the same card, just did some testing and setting everything to ultra with hairworks off does seem to give me a steady 30 FPS most of the time, but riding around Velen occasionally caused drops to 26 or so. With shadows and foliage range set to high, I get a rock-solid 30 FPS, so I'm going with that.

Applesauce

Boom! Bitch-slapped!
Spoiler video, but here is what Hairworks looks like on a GTX 770. FPS is capped at 30. Looks sexy, but I think I prefer no Hairworks and ~50fps.

I think it looks cool on the beasts in the game, but not really on Geralt given the hit on performance. I saw little to no difference in FPS going from Geralt to all, but I just tested it around my horse and a fight with a few wolves. I wish there was a way to just disable it on Geralt and not the beasts.

What? They totally made updates to it. From better controls, an actual tutorial, and added advanced features for Uber sampling.

The witcher 2 Patch Notes

Patch 1.1

  • Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.

Patch 1.3

  • Game now supports 4:3, 5:4, and 16:10 aspect ratios.
  • Assorted improvements have been made in the game’s 3D Vision, SLI and Crossfire functionality.
  • Assorted improvements have been made for running the game in Ubersampling mode on nVidia cards.

Not including all the fixes and tweaks to visual assets in the game. Like changing of certain magical effects.

Making the fixes and these changes made the game a better game, and gave more options to how to run it. Especially the resolutions and Ubersampling for peoples systems who could handle it.

It may not be a whole engine tear down and retooling. But it improved the way the game was being rendered by peoples cards. I was there from Launch and kept it installed for over a year. It felt like a lot of engine change and optimization was done. I got better looking effects I noticed in certain parts of the game, that not only taxed my system, but didn't even look great. Once they patches the fixes and changes, Magical attacks, and certain effects looked way better.

Sorry, I assumed it was obvious that I was being facetious.

It's Neogaf, sometimes it's hard to tell especially everyone in certain threads bitching about downgrades when the game is pretty fantastic.

Sorry if I misread your post.

:(

EDIT: Double post.

Very little pertains to graphics in your list. I don't see why they would patch GPU Physx in the Witcher 3 based on TW2's support.
