This is probably my most favorite Gintama arc ever.

Not just from the sheer amazement of it, but the extra level the staff went with this.

Using the first OP from Kuroko's as background music, having his seiyuu voice Kurokono, adding him into the OP, using seiyuus that voiced characters in Kuroko to voice the fake Kurokonos, just bravo, bravo.

Holy shit when does this happen? I must have missed it.

The new Animator Expo short, Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen, was pretty interesting. At least, I liked it a lot more than the last few shorts. It's too bad that there was so little animation in it.

Wow a person who actually likes the BRS OVA. The general impression I had and many others impression of it were that it was honestly terrible, extremely boring and we hardly got any BRS.

That was my impression when I initially watched it back however many years ago.

Turns out I was wrong. The OVA does a resoundingly great job of establishing the relationship between the two leads.

Your impressions of the OVA have made me want to rewatch it. I watched it initially before starting a marathon of the TV series and the final few episodes made me completely forget about the OVA with their level of craziness. Mayhaps I'll form a different opinion of the OVA on a second rewatch.

The BRS OVA is good. Well handled in comparison to the pile of poop that was the TV show.

I liked the tv series mainly because I actually got what I watched it for: Black Rock Shooter kicking ass unlike the OVA which was 48 minutes of schoolgirl bullshit and 2 minutes of BRS.

I'll have to see the later TV episodes but I feel the OVA does a better job of humanizing the fights.

Scenes such as the above, give the fights meaning and it isn't two people throwing macaroons at each other. It feels as if there is more emotional weight in the OVA fights, rather than it being a retelling like in the TV series.

Only watched a few episode, but it's really good so far.
Well, except for the gayness of the 2 main characters. It's really distracting.
Can you guy kiss already so we can move on?
It just occurred to me, I still need to finish LOGH. I think I stopped around episode 90 or 95.

It's definitely kinda weird how they're drawn like yaoi. I had the same suspicions when I started watching lol.
The hell am I even reading here?

Alright Cajun, this is s weird one for sure. (and old too!) Lots of action in the first two episodes and a little base knowledge of what Chrono and Rosette are and what they do. You can see where the romance would blossom bur when you're talking about
human vs. Devil relationship, it's gonna get rWal complicated real fast, damn
This should be an adventure... Oh, the closing theme is really good as well!

Sayonara Solitaire?

Might I interest you in the FictionJunction self cover version, performed at Yuki Kajiura Live Vol. #9.

Sorry, can't resist whenever a Kajiura song is brought up.

Edit: Well now I can't stop looping it myself.

Oh, people watching in another land, I suppose?

Yahari S2-8

Studio Feel delivered. It says something when a scene you read is different from how you imagined but is still damn good.

Hachiman's VA, Eguchi, knocked it out of the park this episode.

This episode was the climax of both seasons. You don't get any better than that.

Edit: Should emphasize that the character animation near the end was straight up outstanding. Well done.

Black Rock Shooter 2- redux

So this episode starts off with Mato determined to become Yomi's friend and overcome Kagari's hatred.

Well goddamn that was quick. Now most people would have cut their losses at this point. I mean if someone isn't even going to give you a courtesy text that they're not going to make it, it's clear they don't give a fuck about you. Next up is some patent scenes of crazy between Kagari and Yomi.

Now last episode I thought I had a fairly good grasp of the insanity level of Kagari. I was wrong. I was dead wrong.

Then we get some Sanzigen CGI fight sequences which seem to be portrayal of dreams, according to this D-rate psychologist. If this is indeed is supposed to be a dream sequence then why does Mato have these sequences when she is awake? Now I could understand if the fight scenes are merely supposed to represent Mato or the other character's subconcious but Mato is also apparently privy to information she hasn't obtained. Is this some shared sub-consciousness fightclub?

As to why teenage girls are visually representing their relationships as a series of fantasy fights, I have no clue. I should mention that the name of this counselor's office is the best.

Also of note is this earlier sequence:

So I take it this rainbow bird stuff is a metaphor for homosexuality. That's the only way I can make sense of this dialogue. I mean who says this stuff? They keep coming back to this bird book in the most hamfisted manner possible. Anyway on we go to this scene where Kagari throws herself down a flight of stairs.

I should note that I liked the framing of the shot in that not only is there space between Kagari and Yomi but a valley of sorts as well. There is a slight distorted perspective shift, which I'm guessing is to represent the twisted nature of this encounter. Also of note is the light in that Yomi is in the light while Kagari is in darkness. Yomi is also trapped in the arched window which is a metaphor for the earlier 'caged bird' comparison by Mato. Afterwards the audience gets some background on why Kagari is such a fucked up human being, and it's not a particularly riveting story.

What blows my mind in this sequence isn't Kagari's stuff. It's Yomi's parents.

WHAT THE FUCK? YOUR DAUGHTER IS BEING PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY BULLIED AND YET YOU FEEL SORRY FOR THE BULLY? My mind felt like it was leaving my skull. I understand feeling bad for Kagari initially but your daughter should take precendent over someone else's daughter. I thought Kagari might have been either Yomi's half-sister or maybe Yomi's father's boss's daughter. Something that would justify keeping keeping Kagari around despite the clear abuse going on. I got none of that. Anyway on to the climax:

Welp.

And just when I think there might be a breakthrough, some weird ass shit happens and I'm left staring at the screen asking 'wut?' repeatedly. The episode also contained a macaroon barrage attack. That's certainly something I never expected to see. I wonder what Imaishi, or whoever, felt storyboarding something like that.

Black Rock Shooter is a gift to the world.

I wonder if the script was originally intended for a game, some of the elements make me think so.

I just think that it's Uchikoshi's style because it's what he's done for so long.

I like how nice it works in an anime. He definitely makes things really enjoyable.

He really does, it's quickly becoming one of my favourite shows of this year. Characters are all fun, the story has a good mix of action and comedy, aswell as keeping me engaged, and the presentation is just gorgeous all round.

Oregairu/SNAFU 8

As promised, dramas.

I personally find both Yukino and Yui's reactions to Hachiman's speech kind of funny since it doesn't seem like they figured out what he was talking about, even though they probably should have. The fact that it wasn't necessarily obvious which parts Hachiman was actually saying and which parts he was just thinking made it more difficult to follow their reactions though.

SNAFU S2 08

Those posts above overhyped it for me, so I was left a bit underwhelmed. It was still a good scene and a climax to this arc, but the root of the problem has annoyed me from the start so I'm feeling more "I'm glad that's over with and that he finally admitted it."

Aside from that, his face looked really fucking weird during that scene, but I guess that was mostly to show his anguish?

Best show stays best, although I would have preferred to see the fight this episode and not postponing it to the next one. Shirou keeps being cool.
Shinji is still shit and I can't wait to see the living shit kicked out of him.

i can see why a lot of people are thinking that, but imo it's working pretty darn well as an anime

It has worked well as an anime but I enjoy how he implements gameplay mechanics into the story so it's a shame there isn't anything like that.

Punchline 5-7

Maybe I was expecting too much. It got a little more interesting, I guess. Can't say the "twists" were all that surprising though.

Good twists have to be set up properly. Currently there's just a lot of revelation of information we had no idea about prior. Like everything that took place in the past when they were children, that's all new.

'The Prestige' which is among my favorite movies is super competent in regards to twists. That film manages to downright tell you what's really going on...but in a way that you still don't actually realize it yet (YMMV obviously). When the actual twist takes place multiple puzzle pieces fall into their place and you go "oh shit, of course. It all makes sense and the information was all there, I just didn't pick up on it 'til now!"

So far with Punchline it's mostly the past that gets revealed and puts the current situation in a different light. That can still be interesting enough but I can't really say I should've seen anything coming really, when that information just wasn't there at all or not clearly conveyed.

There's also the problem where this has become a multiverse + timetravel story which are usually filled to the brim with paradoxes and cheap arbitrary rule sets.

Gintama always goes the extra mile for a dumb joke. I'm not surprised considering how they've done this stuff so many times but I'm still impressed. Gintama's the best.

Man, SNAFU doesn't stream here until 1:30 am tonight and with all the soccer tournament games tomorrow who knows when I'm going to have time to watch it. Time for the spoiler minefield, lol.

Hopefully next episode should be the pay off for us all. We better get some more Emiya from the ost! Yes lol more Shinji violence is coming. :)

Anime Limited to release Sword Art Online II on Blu-ray and DVD in the UK

It’s a very big weekend for everyone here at Anime Limited. As we post this not only are things underway in East London at the MCM London Comic Con where we’re exhibiting, presenting panels and getting to speak to the fans directly. We also have some big announcements across the weekend to share with you! We’re kicking things off things in a big way with the announcement that we will be releasing the hit series Sword Art Online II in the UK on both Blu-ray and DVD.

The series will be coming to the UK in 4 parts (total) – in Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD combi and Standard Edition DVD formats with Part 1 of 4 tentatively set for release August 2015. We’ll have more details on content info and release information for the other parts at a later date.

Part 1 will contain episodes 1-7 of the “Phantom Bullet” arc of the series. The Collector’s Edition version will come packed in a rigid box, a digipack to hold the discs, a booklet containing information about the series as well as behind the scenes details and features exclusive to our release. In addition to this we can also confirm we intend to create a UK Exclusive storage box to house all four parts of the Collector’s Edition versions and this will be included with Part 1. We’ll have more details on this storage box, content to be included and release information for the other parts at a later date.

“We’re really excited to be releasing Sword Art Online II on blu-ray and DVD. We have some pretty exciting plans for the release and it’s great to be able to bring this title to fans in the UK. The collector’s edition will be a combi pack, which allows us to bring the collector’s edition to as many people as possible – which is very important to us here at Anime Limited HQ. That being said, the addition of the DVD to the set doesn’t impact the overall costs of the release so we thought that would deliver the best of both worlds. Considering it’s a 4 parter, this made the most sense to us. It’s great to have Sword Art Online II as part of the Anime Limited family of titles and we can’t wait to share this with fans later on this year.” – Andrew Partridge, President of Anime Limited

Sword Art Online II (Part 1 of 4): Episode 1-7
  • Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD combi, SRP: £39.99
  • Standard Edition DVD, SRP: £24.99
  • Release date: August 2015 (TBC)

Not a series I care about in the slightest, but I'm sure its a big get from them for sure, also weird as they didn't release Part 1, Manga did, and I think it was DVD only?
