What's the best gem combination to get the 2 rare Katanas for the trophies at the end? I am trying it with Katana + Gold + Gold + Increase 2 since hours and only got one of them till now :(

Actually dont go gold gold. Go like Gold Silver or Gold Bronze. Since I think if that bug is still in the game which never got fixed in the JP one and most likely never got fixed in the localized one, will cause an overflow for the loot chart values making it reset to a lower number. Or something like that.

Looking through the JP wikis it seems that it might have gotten fixed actually, though its odd since it does not appear in the change lists, when it was a pretty serious issue. So going gold x gold + item should be ok. Though I cant find the JP wiki anymore that had the detailed breakdown in regards to what exactly was wrong with the gold / silver / bronze issue and the value overflow.

For treasure hunting it says there after clearing the game if specific condition if fulfilled the player will be able to put in 4 gems into a circle.

its an effect gained from a hidden demon only able to be obtained from after clearing the game.

Ahoy.

What should I save money for after getting the 5th room? Recently I've been turning almost everything into ether (just got Neptune key), and even then I always have around 10k sitting. I know there's some expensive gems at the item shop, but is saving money needed for anything past that?

Also, some notes left by other players say "kick around here with X demon". Are there things kickable only with a specifc demon equipped, or that's the note writers being silly?

yeah money is more for upgrades and the expensive gems or constantly buying nameless gems to use.

not sure about kick here with specific demon might as well try it. dont remember about that too well

Mushrooms, Skulls and most treasure typically require a specific demon to be equipped when kicking, afaik. It was pretty much the only reason why I would enable messages.

Alright, after putting more than 15 hours into the game I can safely say that I'm liking it a lot, I didn't expect to be so hooked.
I just beat Neptune, which was basically unbeatable until I decided to give Mars + Demon Rage a try and, surprisingly, (since, you know, using a fire demon underwater didn't sound too smart) it was pretty OP. I beat the Mimic too and tried Astarte but she annihilated my party. Guess I need to level up a bit. I used a Gazer + Paladin(default) + Wizard + Healer/Samurai and I just got my 5th room so I can stop switching the last member.
As far as difficulty goes, it's pretty tough, I mean, it's not hard as balls but things can often go really bad really fast (pic related). It's basically my first time playing a DRPG though, so maybe I'm just not used to the genre.
The battle system is awesome, I bet that I wouldn't have dropped Persona 3 twice if I could finish battles in a matter of second just by pressing a button. Clearing levels doesn't feel like a drag at all and this is what surprised me the most.
The characters and their interactions are great (Prometh a best) but I wish the audio quality was just a tiny bit better, the game's just 513mb so it's probably not an issue of compressed audio to make both dubs fit but I guess it's just like that.
Also, this is kind of an odd thing to mention but I liked how the intro played with the logos popping up while advancing. Classy stuff.

Edit: Oh yeah, the notes. Pretty fucking useful, I got 5 skulls and 4 mushrooms. They're also better than in the Souls games.

So, the final boss got the best of me on my first try. Luckily I deciced to go all the way back and save before starting the battle.

Should I focus on taking out his adds? Will they stop spawning if I somehow manage to kill all of the 10 demons?

Basically

its said that every 6 turns a summon is done and it should stop after 5 summons. heals every 4 turns and it deletes buffs every 5 turns.

I'm so glad I picked up Demon Gaze from that psn sale. Finally got around to starting it and am really enjoying it, it being my first dungeon crawler has really got me hooked onto these type of games. Are there other dungeon crawlers by the same devs coming to the vita as well and any other out right now to consider getting?

I am currently 16 hours into the game and just beat hermes. Should I bother waiting until I have increase gems to use with artifact gems or just grab a few by save scumming? Haven't bothered with artifact hunting just yet.

If you dont want to wait save scumming is the way to go. Unless you really want to maximize your potential amount of artifacts with the increase gems.

Thanks! Still got screwed, so I'll take a detour and level up a bit, farm some gear and try to grab a True Snipe artifact for my gazer.
I'll definetely take a break from the game before doing the post game though, haha.

Final boss down! Things went smoothly (besides Mars dying quickly, but Chronos assumed from there; ranger almost died once too) thanks to some changes on the strategy and gear, and in the end the fight was more long than troubling.
Almost 35h until here, and surely didn't feel like that much. It was a pleasant entry to the genre.

Will take a little break before tackling the post-game content now.

Thats because the Wizard doesnt have a passive regen skill.

You will need to find artifacts that give you the MP I or II regen skill which is a healer skill if you want the same ability.

Dont expect to use the Wizard all the time in battle. MP is limited for a reason. Sure it may take up a party slot now, but later on its fairly useful.

I know I'm responding to something old as dirt but Wizard Bolt shows up at level 7 and as long as you dump everything into INT and stack INT equipment it'll do great in random battles.

The Wizard is an odd class and it can become pretty OP though you need to have the right artifacts / items for that. For end game stuff they can be useful just that getting them up to that point can be a pain lol. Think I had mine set up with Int / Luc. Though the Vit was fairly low so anytime Id take damage it was pretty bad... Had tried to raise up Mys also when I had found out that stat effects the mana I & II abilities.

I remember for a while in my data I had replaced mine with an assassin for a while.

The two main stats allocations for the Wiz is

Int / Mys = Support type of Wiz

or

Int / Luc = Attack type of Wiz

and whatever else you need by artifacts / items.

For a single target Boost Magic + Fast Cast but Int is what effects the damage output for it.

That Final Impact? the final spell for the Wiz that one goes off of Luc.

I can't even remember if I ever put a single point in Luc for my Wiz so I guess I won't use that. heh. I should probably level up though, I'm around lv 34 with my party. Or I just need better gear.

Could be upgrade / get new gear since lv wise you should be fine. That and the last boss is kinda random with how it can either totally stomp you or you can win lol.

Clerics hilariously enough almost never need mana so I just use Evil Blast, sometimes fast casted, and then trade mana when the wizard runs out for these later dungeons.

Wizard is also my in battle healer because the Cleric is too busy buffing in boss fights.

With how Demon Gaze is designed healing is never really an issue which is nice. Even more so early on when you are constantly using that healing staff to heal everyone with lol.

Yeah its pretty funny how you can use the Cleric as a mana battery too.

I've got to be 80% through the main game and I still just use the healing staff.

Its so easy to use some wikis even mention that you dont really need a cleric thanks to that staff, though you will be missing out on the support spells. Pretty funny how such a simple early on item becomes something you constantly drag around with you for the rest of the game.

They also seemingly made the game thinking that some people would ignore it and also run no cleric, which is why they have eight million different food items for regaining hp and they give them out like candy. The only reason I go back to the inn anymore is when I need to sell all of that crap/monster goodies/get a demon.

Yeah this time around the food items are fairly pointless cept for that one particular dungeon.

I always found it funny how they put so much energy into the names when for the most part folks will be ignoring most of the items.

In a previous game that was not localized for the west (Students of Round), the food items actually had a purpose as they were meant to bait traps with. Different types of food for different dungeons / areas. They still worked like they did in demon gaze though. You could also convert them into other items and such along side with using them as food for dinner with your characters.

Stranger of Sword City also has some stuff like that but not as excessive as Demon Gaze was lol

Wonder what Demon Gaze 2 will be doing with the food items this time around. Hopefully they bring back a system that gives them more meaning than just randomly named items.

Is status-effect inflicting based on Luck? PicoPico Hammer sounds looks nice on the paper, but my samurai isn't making the effects proc that often.

Yay, I beat it. I realized what I was doing wrong.
I used God Mirror for Light Veil so I was able to pick Neptune istead of Uranus and then I found out that I could use Demon Vase to prevent the magic buffs to get removed. And that's basically it, that was my main issue the first times I tried. With Light Veil on and Neptune's hp regen I was able to dedicate a few turns to eva/hit buffs and items without getting wrecked.
Ignoring the buff/debuff system until the end of the game is a pretty bad habit I have.

Yeah as prelude mentioned it Luck effects both the success rate and resistance rate of status effects. So with that being said it also effects the 1HK rate for weapons with the ability. Such as certain Samurai Katanas for one example.

Also the proc rate of skills like Devotion / Killer Edge

and as mentioned up above the damage of the final Wiz spell Omega Impact

Its the hammer that can KO / Paralyze enemies as an effect. Though it has real low damage 2 x 10.

LUC+?, Paralyze, KO, Anti-Undead, Anti-Spirit, Spell Def+, Special Def+, HP+

1 Hand / Accuracy 5 / Unable to be used by Migmy.

Oh my god,
Dark Aries is so fucking cheap. Every time I try she gets increasingly cheaper with her spamming her "suicide" attack every turn oneshotting demons or characters.
What's a good strategy? Which demons should I have?

What's a good strategy? Which demons should I have?

The general strategies in the JP wiki are saying

You will need both physical and magical defense, there is a low chance that she will use Moonlight Arrow but that is counted as magic so anti magic defense can cancel the effect such as the item God Hand? Demons that assist with protection and speed will help you be able to set things up with resistance / defenses. Looked around and lots of folks seem to use Hermes and Venus. They say that Magic Break will help lessen the magical damage taken but its still a huge amount. Others use Uranus and Pluto.

Also there are 2 ways of fighting 1 is being highly defensive and consists of keeping defenses / resistance up all while destroying all of the seeds first. Or the second method which is more suicidal and just going pure offensive on Dark Aries only and ignoring the seeds.

Know that isnt really helpful without any sort of visual reference but was the information that could find at the moment.

Something from Gfaqs in regards to the fight.

Defensively, you should have your paladin in the front row. They should either be defending for front guard or you should be using light/dark veil or a gods mirror. You should have whistle up. You should have fake dolls or kidnapping protection.

Then just keep everything up and take them down. Use mars/hermes and either uranus or Aries. Wind Act if you somehow start dying before you get everything setup.

It's such a random fight, sometimes I'm screwed in 10 seconds and sometimes I can last 10 minutes.
I need Neptune for the additional HP and HP regen, and I guess I need Mars for the attack boost and Chronos for the defense one so I don't think I have many choices on that regard.
Btw, do they say how many HPs she has in the jp wiki? If I know the exact amount I might time some crazy strong attack properly like that Mars skill. It also sucks that I can't go back or I have to beat all the bosses again.

Dont think they had the HP amount written unfortunately. Did not see that in the 2 wikis.

This general information was also avalable

Dark Aries

Abilities: 3 action turns / Physical Attack M range + chance to 1HK effect / HP regeneration (Every 4 turns)
Type / Element: God / No Element
Resistance: Poison / Sleep / Silence / Confuse
Active Skill & Special Attack: Raging Hit / Formation Desctruction? (messes up formation of PT) / Wizard Bolt (chance to silence) / Call Ally (Aries Seed x 4, every 6 turns) / Erase Buffs (Every 7 turns) / Soul Gaze (Every 4 turns) / Moonlight Arrow
Passive Skills: Divine Body / Parry / Counter-attack
Spells: Gods Veil / Divine Weapon / Divine Armor

Aries Seed

Abilities: None
Type / Element: God / No Element
Resistance: Poison / Sleep / Silence / Confuse
Active Skill & Special Attack: Wizard Bolt (chance to confuse)
Passive Skill: None
Spell: Evil Blast / Holy Shine

One main thing that all the wikis seem to have in there as a suggestion besides
physical / magic protection is most def speed so that the player can get their turn faster.

Damn. The biggest issue is that I need to whistle basically every single turn so I often miss my chance to do enough damage per turn before she heals (more than 3k) so I'd need Mars to compensate but she has less than 2k hp so she can die really really easily. Chronos is good for that but she doesn't do any damage at all so I can't keep up with her either.

I just read about Cross Fix "Ambush the enemy to stop their movements. 2 turn Stun. Removes Hidden status". Does this work on Dark Aries? What's the catch?

Hmmm that am not certain about as did not see the 2 wikis I was looking at mention that. Was that over at gfaqs or something?

Seeing that in the list stun is not present in the resistances perhaps it might work?

Yeah the fight is most def one about speed / out damaging the healing. its where a lot of people get stuck for a little while actually.

Unfortunately outside of what has been mentioned here did not find anything else too useful from the quick passes with finding info. D: Was unable to find any videos of the fight too.

Double post I know, but it is hilarious how Cross Fix is broken as HELL.

Locked Aries one time after another and won with ease.
and I remembered that I got that artifact several times while farming true snipe so I checked the spreadsheet. I still have one active circle in spring's palace so I might try that.

Might as well try it out since what else do you have to lose! :D

also about whistle buff, I dont think it's much an issue if you have the artifact that gives long range (gazer learn it too)

But if the back row goes to the front God Mirror stops working like intended or am I missing something?

I don't have an assassin, though. Gazer/Paladin/Samurai/Wizard/Healer

Mars (attack boost), Chronos (defense boost) and Neptune (HP regen so I don't waste time healing and I think my Paladin wouldn't be able to get through many turns without the HP boost)

You should try with Chronos, Neptune and Aries. Aries last skill is very good. Have your wizard cast divine weapon on your dps char, and healer cast divine shield on paladin. paladin should be able to tank this.
Isn't there an artifact with the whistle skill? you could always give that to your wizard or something.
there's also an artifact to equip 2 two hand weapon in that place if I remember. So you could always farm the first few circle with artifact and x2 gem to get it all the unique artifact. quite useful for the gazer and with true snipe for example

if you have trouble with kidnap, you can get some fake doll at the shop (they're limited and you'll probably need them against the last guy).

I think I was doing pretty good too following your strategy but, yeah, it was pretty anticlimactic. I didn't pick Aries since I still have 2 levels to go before her last skill and I can't leave Spring's Palace so it'd be way too time-consuming to level up.
