The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt PS4 Update 1.04 is out!

Frankly, frame rate is still quite terrible, especially during rain, fights, cut screens with action or when particle effects are on display. Haven't seen much improvement on the ps4 unfortunately. Shame this ambitious game is marred by technical hiccups.
Frame rate isn't even good on the map

Game feels a lot smoother to me and foliage does look better.

Maybe it's a placebo effect but I'm liking the patch so far.
Same here, don't think it's just placebo.

Strange how some people have severe texture loading problems and atrocious frame rate on their PS4. Time to clean up that hard drive and perform "Rebuild Database" me thinks.

Has anyone with persistent issues tried rebuilding database?

I have, although still at 1.03, about a week ago.

Haven't changed anything for the loading and pop in problems for me.

Stock HDD, pretty full, probably like 5% free space left.

Sorry if asked before any screens/video on how much more readable the txt is in the PC version for 1.05?

PC version.

I was mistaken, the icons are the same size, but the text is way larger, that was throwing me off. A definite improvement.

Font for item descriptions and books is bigger. Subtitles font remains the same.

At this point, CDPR is clearly not too familiar with the PS4's api, since it's taking them so long to fix the 20fps lock. They're probably don't even know where to look. Just look at Geralt standing there in the forest with no light sources and just watching the trees, the game locks to 20fps for no good reason, other times in the swamp, Geralt is being pursued and attacked by at least 5 swamp creatures he's toggling his torch on and off and it stays at 30fps. If these guys are to give a proper fix and a stable fps, I suspect it will take them much more time. As someone who's done some programming myself, I agree with Nxgamer, it's always more difficult to fix code than to do it right the first time.

Good reminder, hadn't done this before, worth a try

Reading stuff like this is so discouraging to me lol.

They said they are looking into it. I just want an update now, knowing the next patch is probably a good 2-3 weeks away with no guarantee of a fix

Am I the only person who feels like 1.04 reduced performance? My framerate wasn't too bad on the base game besides the swamp and the final boss. But now the game seems to chug constantly and my console is a lot louder, I've even noticed screen hangs. It's about as bad as Old Yharnam in a lot of places.

At least a few of the bugs in terms of progression and gameplay have been fixed but I feel like the game struggles a lot more now.

Nope. Performance feels a lot better. No screen hangs and the camera judder is completely gone. Overall it is a pretty good patch.

Seems this new patch added characters from Assassins creed Unity

Seriously, Ubi got a lot of shit for this shit and notice the textures haven't loaded in.

I'm with you. Framerate seems worse to me since the patch and is dropping in areas it hadn't before.

Why they can't fix the 20 fps lock? it׳s practically switching off this feature isn't it? don't get why did they implement such thing from the start and why it's so hard removing it.

It's not a 20 fps "lock" exatly (that would be stupid), it's that the game is seemingly double-buffered. They could switch v-sync off, sure, but then you'd get screen tearing instead. What they need to do is implement triple buffering, which would allow the game to run at framerates between 20 and 30. Or adaptive v-sync, which would allow the game to tear when it drops below 30, but it would feel a lot smoother overall. Either way, they can't leave it like this.

fair or not you get more leeway when your game is better received. like unity though...outside of the performance issues i'm really not seeing all these game breaking bugs. even with the XP bug just recently being fixed i feel like i'm overleveled as i'm 5 levels over most of the main quests in novegrad. performance stuff isn't really affecting my ability to enjoy the game. i didn't quit for a week waiting for a patch.

guess it depends on how much you like the game.

I just got this. Has the main menu always had horrible audio popping/crackling?
I just started the game and I have the same issue. Worst of all, the music continues over the opening cutscene. What the fuck, CDPR?

Edit: Holy fuck, it just won't stop even after the opening scene.

Well, I had been keeping my playtime counter accurate by not suspending the game, etc, but now after 1.04 the game has suddenly started resetting my playtime to zero whenever it feels like it. Maybe not a huge issue, but DAMN annoying. I like having an accurate measure of that. This is apparently something they haven't looked at at all yet. Surely they must be aware of it?

EDIT: It keeps fucking doing it! It wasn't doing it yesterday, what the hell has changed? Ok, fuck this game until they fix it I guess. Not gonna bother with this broken shit anymore.

Nope, that started after 1.04. It's fine in-game though.

But it really is kinda shitty that they don't catch stuff like this before releasing patches. They fix one thing and break another...

Opening cut scene frame rate is janky as fuck, too. Maybe I should have waited longer before picking this up.

Does the first playable part of the game take a shitload to load or is it normal to have 3+ minutes of a single loading screen?

Edit: make that 6+ minutes by now. Whoa, a 93 Metascore my ass.

load times can be a bit long when loading from a death or when starting the game. can't remember anything taking 3 minutes though. is your game fully installed?

ON an SSD I usuall have like 10 15 seconds loading.. not matter what. So it is hard to compare... you are on an HDD I assume?

Anyother HDD users here?

i have the stock 500 GB drive in mine. i don't ever recall seeing loading taking longer than about a minute and that's the upper range. loading between areas is usually about half that or shorter

-Fully installed with latest patch.

-Yes, stock HDD. It just won't load the god damn thing.

Did they fix the infinite loading screen bug during King's Gambit quest?

Did not see that on the notes and that is fairly game breaking. I currently am waiting to complete ACT 2 until I can do that quest. It also prevents me from Completing Velen: Gwent Players

I check for myself.

It is fixed. I was able to complete the quest this time after trying 4 times and getting endless loading scene at the same spot before the patch.

I dont know if it was this patch or prior patches, but I replayed the opening sections yesterday and the improvement in performance was very noticeable there.

In general, yeah there are still times when the framerate stutters quite a bit, and the swamp area with rain still locks it to 20fps but in general its much improved from the release version, especially the cutscenes. It could use more work and they are still improving it but I feel good about it now, not so bothered by it like when I first started playing.

The one thing is I hope they fix this issue where the camera gets locked very close behind geralt's head and wont budge even if you manage to fast travel somewhere, only fix is to reload the game.. happened to me a few times and its a bit annoying.

Original HDD here, loading a save usually takes like a minute.

LOL, I thought this was the PC performance thread. Sorry guys... try and not look at my post for any data.

My mistake! (There are soooo many witcher threads...)

The pop in is comically bad in Novigrad now. I got a picture of an area where a bridge is supposed to be. Ran into a dude near the Southern Gate whose legs hadn't loaded in yet. Framerate is better in places, though, so I'll just trot into areas so the objects can load without issue.

EDIT: Oh, shit! I got this hilarious video during the Now or Never mission where a random thug falls through the level and appears in the rat's nest in the sewers. When he lands he starts cheering. I can't wait to get home. :D

Thats because the game is loading in the background since they decided to have that cutscene "seamlessly" transition into the game. It does the same thing on PC.

It did. Now I died and I'm reloading a save file. I'm scared of how much time is gonna take.

Edit: Nope, 3+ minutes and hasn't loaded a tiny bit.
Are you downloading anything on the PS4 in the bg? Is your HDD almost full? That's not normal, at all. Takes a minute or less, usually.

Yes, I'm downloading a game patch in the background. I have 140 GB free on my HDD.

I have no idea what is going on. I'm gonna try reinstalling the game or something.

Funny enough I'll never seen the famous glitches in Assassins Creed games, this is my first.
Also the texture load in has nothing to do with defragging, I only just rebuilt the database last week.

^^^
That reminded me, I had one big ass loading screen before starting a mission.

Weeeeell, back to BB I guess. Maybe by the time I'm finished with that, and DS2 (which I haven't started yet), they'll have this game up to the level of polish it should have been at release.

And yes, I realize that massive open world RPGs always have issues. But when basic game features are broken I just get too pissed off to carry on.

Seems like every patch makes the game worse. Aside from the camera rotation being smoothed out I'm not sure anything else has improved.
